Since we calculate our Petreon and Liberapay money as "people" (divide the amount by 5) we had to adjust the amount of people who support our 200 for TROM from 99 to 93. It is still great but we need more help ;).
We highly recommend that you use our 200 for TROM to support us and not the above ones since it is easier and most support comes from there anyway.
So our TROM.tf server was successfully updated to the latest Yunohost and Debian! Everything seems to work fine except our TROM Send (Lufi) that appears to be broken. We are looking for a fix or a replacement. Updating our tromsite.com server seems a bit more complicated because of the hosting provider probably.
Hm yah I wonder about that too....we run synapse (matrix) version 1.121.1 - their latest stable release. But I am not sure if that Matrix 2.0 is more about their new ElementX which is an app.... matrix.org/blog/2023/09/matrix…
yeah, I don't know exactly what it takes since I've never hosted a matrix server lol but I know that the server has to support SSS to use the new client (which you should have if you're on the newest synapse). I only ask because I tried signing up through the app and it seems like it's missing the new authentication service. and signing up on web just tries to open old element. i could easily be missing something though lol
TROM.tf server updated to the latest Yunohost and Debian. However our Matrix server is currently not working, probably lots of database migrations are still on the way. Hopefully in a few hours it should work, if not there is some work to do to fix it.
TROM Send is not working - will see what can be done about that. For now it has been removed.
And we have removed our Pixelfed instance. It was setup for testing purposes and I, Tio do not have time to manage it. Plus the YNH package is not very up to date. Lastly, we are running very low on diskspace for TROM.tf so we need to only keep relevant and useful services.
If in the future someone from TROM wants to manage a Pixelfed instance we can fire one up ;).
There is a lot of work for TROM behind the scenes, so you know!
Troubleshooting, troubleshooting, troubleshooting..... It is always more work than you think, programming is hard and all but testing and troubleshooting is what actually takes up a lot of time, it drives me mad sometimes. So yeah, I imagine the "behind the scenes" work on managing TROM is harder than people think.
Lots of server work these days...many webape servers to update to the latest Yunohost plus debian. And I am failing to update our main tromsite.com server because of dependency issues....pretty bad situation. But this is what I'm doing these days: server work plus making video for TROMhome in parallel.

You make a video about cleaning up the waste, and that's something important and is done by good people, but then you post on Youtube and they show you first an ad about fast fashion.
Tell me this is not the most ironic thing. Same as selling hard-copy books about deforestation on Amazon.
And this is not to blame anyone, but please if you have other options use those too, like Peertube or making your books digital.
If you are making content about restoring nature we invite you to our Peertube instance videos.trom.tf - no ads or any bullshit like that.
Let's be reasonable people and at least try. Youtube is an ad-company and if we want to cut down from this insane consumerism we should try to avoid Youtube or at least use adblockers.

Before they watch a video about volunteering, restoring nature, cutting down the waste and so forth, they will watch very attractive ads for buying shit, Big Macs, harmful and wasteful products. I find that beyond outrageous.
So I think we should try to push your Peertube channel more. Maybe you can tell me what format are you saving your videos in so I can look what may be the issue with uploading them to Peertube. We have uploaded thousands of videos to Peertube and everything works great.
We should change these habits too of posting on these ad-network. I get it about the reach, but in parallel we should give these alternatives platforms a try too.
That's why people should use adblocker. I forgot that there are ads on youtube, been using adblocker for years now. I don't get people who watch a lot of videos there, and yet don't have ad blocker or paid subscription.
Peertube was perfect when it was linking my videos automatically from youtube channel.
I render them in .mov format 4k, h265. I think h264 format is what peertube don't like
Yes but many people dont use. Especially on mobile is virtually impossible to block them unless you use something else than youtube like newpipe. Yes Peertube was perfect when it autoimported the youtube videos but youtube is blocking that now....so it is hard to fix it. Youtube is a total cunt.
Weird about the format since we uploaded the same formatted videos. If you have any of your videos somewhere in this original format maybe send a link to grab it so I can test.
Personally I'm also worried that these adblockers will stop working one day, especially now that YouTube is trying hard to get rid of them. So it's a temporary solution at best.

Very nice! Have been running it on Linux Mint 22.1 beta with no issues. Have been a Cinnamon die-hard for years, but I'm starting to prefer Xfce with this release.
Planting trees in Germany with Bergwaldprojekt. In November I was in Munich planting beech trees in a spruce forest. Thanks Tio. Yes, sure if you want to deal with Peertube it's ok. For some reasons it doesn't like my standard format, and I need to reformat it specially for Peertube, and no one watches the videos there except you, so it's a bit too much effort. But if you want to do it, then of course.
