There’s an extraordinary fact about Earthlings- and all Earth things- that I suspect many people are not aware of.
It’s a story- an incredible story that we, humans, have discovered fairly recently. A story about you, and me, every Russian and Ukrainian, every Mexican, and every Lithuanian.
It’s a story that should connect us all, making us feel both large and extra small.
The story:
Once upon a time, there was a bang− a big bang. From this, a universe was born. At first, the universe was unimaginably hot, dense, and small. It was much smaller, in fact, than the tip of your smallest fingernail. But it expanded rapidly, and then it cooled. And as it cooled, it created something incredible: the first atom− hydrogen. Made of just one proton and one electron.
With time, giant clouds of early atoms coalesced through gravity and formed something extraordinary: stars.
Inside these stars, there was an incredible amount of heat and density, so much that it caused the hydrogen atoms to fuse together and create a different element: helium, which has two protons. Then, as the star became even hotter and even denser, it caused helium atoms to fuse together and create yet another element: carbon (with six protons), and then oxygen (with eight protons). Eventually, the star began to run out of fuel and collapse in on itself. As it collapsed, it created an even hotter, denser environment which caused carbon atoms to fuse together and form bigger, heavier elements; then bigger, heavier elements fused together to form even heavier elements; until eventually, the star created iron− and then it exploded. As it exploded, it created even more heavy elements − and then, it seeded the universe with all the ingredients it needed for new suns, planets, moons, oceans, mountains, and life.
That is where we truly come from − the elements of our bodies were crafted in the center of dying stars. In this sense, Earth and everything on it truly is star dust. And we, humans, are recycled Earth stuff.
About 4.5 billion years ago, elements −which came from the cores of stars− coalesced and formed our planet. As they merged, they mingled, assembled and reacted with each other, dancing a dance that we call chemistry.
Then, perhaps half a billion years later, another extraordinary event happened− chemistry transformed into biology. Bundles of atoms that were once lifeless now began to store information and replicate themselves. We don’t know exactly how life arose, but we do know that it began with tiny simple organisms. These organisms were able to undergo changes in little bits of their stored information, and pass on those changes to future generations. As billions of years passed, the organisms evolved, they became more and more complex, and more diverse. And eventually, one of those species of organisms evolved into thinking beings. Beings that could gaze up at the stars, the moon and the sun, and wonder, ponder and investigate their presence. That being is you.
You are the universe pondering about its own existence.

Isn’t it mind-boggling that every human has the capacity to understand this story, yet most pay no attention to it? Instead, they listen to the stories of business people, “countries,” and psychotic politicians. Instead of working together to discover the cosmos, and solve global problems (like climate change, poverty, and so many others)− humans divide themselves, marking the Earth with imaginary lines, fighting for territories and wasting their minds. They build weapons of mass destruction− powerful enough to bring their own selves to extinction. And they fight, they wage war, and they kill their own kind.

The USA and its friends were not punished. No sanctions, nothing. Today Russia seems to engage in exactly the same manner. They are severely punished.
The history is full of such crimes conducted by tribes.
This goes to show the "double-standard" of our world. On top of this, we shall not forget that crimes and atrocities do not only happen in wars, but everywhere else. Slavery and coercion, draconian laws, the utter destruction of the biodiversity on Earth, the forever-chemicals, the plastic, the pollution. The hunger and starvation, the inability to access medical care unless you have some imaginary papers. All of that.
Where is the world united against these atrocities?
For sure, we need to act quickly to immediate threads like it is the case with Russia. But we need a reminder about how this world truly is.
This is a recent photo from the current war in Ukraine. This is what Russia is doing. This is the brutality and reality of war. Take a deep look. Everyone should be exposed to these events via such direct means, not just numbers and statistics. But the reality of it:
If the world thinks that severely punishing Russia for these atrocities is a necessary, good and united act, then we should do the same for any such acts, performed by any other tribe. And we should do the same for the other atrocities too. Else this is hypocrisy.
So let's see when they are going after the billionaires, the companies that create so much suffering, the profit motive itself; hell, go after trade and eliminate the need for it. Let's see...

Do not forget that there is no democracy out there. No matter if it is USA, EU, Russia, they are all as far from democracy as Andromeda galaxy is from us. Humans "elect" a few others, in questionable ways, and then the few others take whatever decisions they want.
Have Russian creatures voted for this war? Was it a democratic decision? How about the American creatures, did they vote to go to Iraq or Vietnam and massacre those people? None voted.
Democracy is a myth, a ridiculous idea that has nothing to do with how anything is organized on this planet, or should be organized perhaps. Profit, birthed by trade, is a lot more of an influencer than anything else.
And so, if you get angry at Russia, do not forget that are not the Russians attacking anyone, but a handful of powerful people. Also do not forget that USA, EU, and the rest of the world, share the same bloody hands, but yet again it is not the people, but a handful few.
We cannot resolve conflict with conflict in the long run. Sure, it may be necessary to act aggressively if you are attacked, in order to protect yourself, but if there is no plan, no understanding, no approach at how to prevent such situations, your solution is momentary at best.
We need weapons of mass-helping rather than mass-killing. So that we create a global society of humans, who have free time to educate themselves, think, learn, create relationships, research, be creative, help each other. The only way out, long term, is to attack the world with solutions. To move beyond this mass-trading society. To free men from trade. To free the world from its effects.
War is not about who is right, but about who is left.

The illusory picture of the world in other countries may be created by "free media", social media, politicians, who exaggerate things and lies, competing all over for the "breaking" news. Russia's case is just another, but very advanced symptom of the world's common disease.
There are still a majority of people of Russia, who don't support this war in Ukraine and believe that it has no goal, absolutely no real reason for that to happen and this is just another attempt of mad putin to recieve some legitimacy from this war as a some sort of "imperor", "war hero", "conqueror", "savior" or whatever bullshit his propaganda is trying to feed, as he has already done it in 2014. But this time, of course, he has gone too far and sadly, but as usual, the cost of that will be a burden on the shoulders of those good, peaceful russian people for many years in further..

So yah officially Borg + Mega are backing up all of my stuff. It is a bit more expensive but works great. In total 360 Euros a year. That's 30 Euros a month. Luckily people donated for a 1 year payment so now it is all paid. 30 Euros a month seems like a lot of money but paying it yearly to have full backups of everything, including the servers, trom.tf, all of our TROM websites and files, all that you see on videoneat.com, the TROM II documentary project and all that, doesn't seem that much. We are talking about 10TB of backups. #tromlive
Improvements/Changes: Latest ISO did not use the latest LTS Kernel. Sorry about that. The latest ISO only used the latest kernel (515) for the live ISO. We fixed it now. To migrate to kernel515 you have to do it via Add/Remove Software.
Important read. We should not also forget that US and other such tribes, attacked other tribes for little to no reasons. And how media reported that. I like Aljazeera so far. They seem to be a bit more balanced. #tromlive

Yah well idk when people cluster the "western media" what they are referring to. I mix PBS, BBC, Aljazeera, DW, and a few other orgs from UN to OCCRP. They seem to be criticizing all sides when necessary. When it comes to politics is always going to be a mess-in-the-press. The tricky thing is to choose the lesser-mess.

I've seen two documentaries about the war in syria - "Last men in Aleppo" & "For sama". Most of it was bombing but they also started using chloride gas, which might be what you saw on that video. War insanity aside, it is interesting how you get better war footage from 100 years ago than today because today people film vertically and I swear you can't tell what's happening or the scale of what is going on. Footage on the ground filmed by normal people can be invaluable. Millions of cameras vs a few for professional filming. Many documentaries of this sort use the footage that people captured actually. See the documentaries from VN called "Exodus".

People should know that shooting in landscape is preferred for important things like documentaries. Also I think social medias like instagram and tiktok is what made these vertical videos popular, they could've just rotated the video player and shown landscape videos (like how youtube did it)
Well you may be shocked but people used to use small digital video cameras back in the days hahaha :). I too had those. Plus before 2015 or so people filmed in landscape mode mostly, from what I can tell, even with their phones. Facebook, insatshit, and tiktoks made people look through a fence.

In the sane world people couldn't be blind and deaf to the problems and suffering of others in any place in the world, because they know - we share the same planet, same air. If your neighbor still pollutes the air, soil, water, dunno.. starts a fucking WAR, for example, you will never be safe anywhere.. To me this is cristal clear.

I've set a goal to finish TROM II in 2-3 months and work like a nut these months. Ideally I should not do this and enjoy the ride, however towards the end of this year we have to probably move out. Our "trade-free" accommodation will no longer be available so we will have to make some money and keep these projects alive. Our "dream" is to buy a motorhome and travel around spain and the neighboring countries and work from it. I plan to write more books, do more tromcasts and videos, and so forth. Sasha should also release the book this year.
But anyway I am pushing myself these 3 months like a crazy man, to work maybe every single day on the documentary.

So the way I was backing up the servers previous to Borg was very wasteful. My computer had to check millions of files every day + store around 2TB of files + some 120GB stored on the servers themselves. That is for 7 days file versioning.
So around 2TB of data for 7 days backups.
With Borg this is reduced to some 1TB for more than 7 days file versioning. Half the size. And my computer is no longer involved in the backups. They are server to server. Can't tell you how much better this is.
Megasync seems to also be working good so all files are backedup now.
Today I worked a bit on TROM II. I am getting back to that. Trying some open source AI effects for the second part. Have to build that with docker - something new to me.
We are tiny and fragile. And we are all on the same spaceship. Fighting with each other, polluting, destroying ourselves and the spaceship with its ecosystems, is a sign of a primitive species.
Technologically we are advanced. Morally, primitive still. We look for signs of intelligent life out there, but there seem to be none in here.
We have created a system of "politics" that is a mere fashion show. We do not know what is true anymore, nor that we ever knew. Science is here to help, but the incentive to trade made us merchants and consumers, so the value is in how much we acquire. Science is thus, mainly a tool to help us sell more. Build taller buildings for richer humans, make thinner smart-phones for stupid-consumers; better tanks and rockets to destroy the others: more plastic, more livestock, more of the same products wrapped in different wrappers, all on the backs of our capable technology.
Science tells us that we are all one, connected through evolution, entangled with the universe. Atoms, cells, planets. But who has the time to embrace this reality when we are all rats in a trade-race!?
Conquerors, emperors, politicians, are self delusional. Even their victories are momentary. We should, by now, go at war with cancer, pollution, biodiversity loss, homelessness, other diseases, asteroids....not with each other.
Your tanks and missiles won't bring peace. Your lies and fake news don't exist. Your words are swords, that only cut A world of wars, online or not.

The backups are fast and thanks to Vorta, their desktop tool, I can easily connect to these repos and mount them or extract any files I want, or delete some. As easy as that. I do not like the terminal, I feel blind when using it, but for Borg I will still have to use it to restore backups for example. And I can put up with that. Tested, seems easy.
So I use borgbase with 2TB of storage for all of the servers + my local system files, like config files and such, since Borg works great with tons of files that are not that big sized. From servers to Borg, from my computer to Borg. All seem to work really well thus far.
The files.
The rest of the files are around 6TB. That is TROM II documentary, VN stuff, and so forth. It seems that Mega is great for very large files. Probably Mega got stuck when I told it to backup tons of small files because now it seems to work well. So I backup the rest to Mega.
2TB of BorgBase + 8TB of Mega = 350 Euros a year. 50 Euros more than when I first planned for this and got donations for this purpose. It is fine. I'll add 50 more Euros for that. I am still testing this for a week or so before buying these for a full year. I want the backups to be seamless and "just work". Right now they seem so, but let's see. 1 week should settle this dispute :).
Backups are damn important so you should do them properly, regularly, and safely. The options I chose are encrypted end to end. And easy to setup it seems.
I want to go back to TROM II after this. Tomorrow I shall start. #tromlive

And guess what, the message went to a random user pod.geraspora.de/u/wurstaufbro… that's on Diaspora... The user was of course very confused. What in the world has happened and how can we figure it out? :D
@Tio @Michael Vogel I also had this problem when I tried to send a private message to a user of my instance, a user who was not my connection. Instead, the message was sent to the last user I had had a private conversation with! Probably, the problem lies in the function that aggregates private messages...
I tried to send a direct message to @Michael Vogel , but it was sent to a different user.
That user was not a random user, but the last user that was reported to me in the notification panel as he was the last user who had mentioned me in chronological order
I have friended the user before contacting him. In any case, it is a big issue if the message is sent to other users. Should not allow you to send it in the first place. But is ok, we should have patience and hopefully you guys can figure this out. I wish I had the know-how to help you.

Backups overwhelm me ahgain...making local backups is super easy for millions of files and some 7-8TB of data. But doing them online is not easy at all. Megasync is super easy to setup and is encrypted and all that. But fails so often because of so many files... Bor is kinda a pain in the ass to use and I feel like I can't have proper control over it. Trying to backup the trom.tf server with it now let's see how it goes but is not as simple to backup and restore with Borg.
Well @Rokosun wants to move from mastodon to friendica but before he did that, he followed his friendica account from his mastodon, and then he moved to friendica and imported all contacts from mastodon to friendica....and as you can tell, it also included his own friendica account. haha. And he made me test if I can follow my own account from my account...and I reached that page you see above.

I followed my friendica account (this one) from my mastodon account (@futureisfoss@fosstodon.org). After some time I imported my mastodon contacts to my friendica account like this:
Go to settings, and then click on "Social networks". Under "General Social Media Settings", there is a field for "Your legacy ActivityPub/GNU Social account". I just gave my mastodon account on the field to import my contacts from mastodon.
As you can see, this would cause me to follow myself on friendica, and the import process did in fact showed me that I successfully followed myself using the same account. But I can't see myself as a follower on the contact tab of friendica, so I can't unfollow myself. Later I logged in to the tusky client using my friendica account, and tusky showed me on the notification tab that I did followed myself.
I'm wondering if this causes any other issues we're not aware of yet. Not sure if these problems are related, but I noticed that I can't go to my profile on tusky, it could be an issue of the app itself not properly supporting friendica, so I don't know.
So Vimeo deletes a video of me showing how facebook is still full of porn videos when you search in their main search engine. So it is me scrolling through the search results to showcase that for one of our TROM books. Then Vimeo proceeds by deleting my channel for that.
They said:
Ok masters, so you "do not permit content that depicts explicit nudity or sexual acts.". That video should still not be removed, let alone my entire channel.
And of course is full of nudity videos, or sexually explicit ones...
Not that nudity or sex are bad, they are great actually. People should celebrate that and ban money or any trades from such platforms, but Vimeo screws me for uploading the videos that their website is full of. And so many are years old.

I like how videos.trom.tf is actually the exact opposite of that - exploitative porn is removed, but educational nudity is allowed. Porn and movies are mainly removed because they're considered as an exploitation of the limited server space. @tio

Yeah, if to speak about Russia, there's one of "the best" place to live and see how entirely the social system is fucked up (don't take is an advice, especially now.. :D). All the "success, growth, wealth" of the people and state is just an illusion there, a propaganda's entity, nothing more. Instead of "democracy", "the voice of the people", there's just a 0,1% of the entire population in Russia, who "own" everything, a bunch of friends, relatives, who steal, murder, torture, imprison.. And 144 mil other, usual and in general good people being "bombarded" everyday with awful, agressive lies from TV, like, seriously, 24/7. They created an illusion that they are the best country, best people, best "democracy", best courts, best leaders, only successful projects are everywhere, and of course, every problem, catastrophy, tragedy, mistakes are hidden. Russia isn't the only one, of course. Almost all tribes live in the same illusion, some are better, some are worse. Russia is just an example of the super extreme case, the result of almost 10 years of non-stop brain-washing and a terror upon own citizens. The illusory picture of the world in other countries may be created by "free media", social media, politicians, who exaggerate things and lies, competing all over for the "breaking" news. Russia's case is just another, but very advanced symptom of the world's common disease.
There are still a majority of people of Russia, who don't support this war in Ukraine and believe that it has no goal, absolutely no real reason for that to happen and this is just another attempt of mad putin to recieve some legitimacy from this war as a some sort of "imperor", "war hero", "conqueror", "savior" or whatever bullshit his propaganda is trying to feed, as he has already done it in 2014. But this time, of course, he has gone too far and sadly, but as usual, the cost of that will be a burden on the shoulders of those good, peaceful russian people for many years in further..
