If you refuse to be part of the trade society, say you refuse to trade your work and you give it away for free, because you want to be a good human, you are fucked. Unless you get support from other human beings, voluntarily, you could basically die. End up in the streets, be unable to feed yourself, and survive overall.
our trade-based society doesn't care about how much value you create, they only care how much money you make. And if you don't make enough money then you're fucked, there are no good support systems for people, no safety nets. So people are forced to work a paid job under the threat of poverty, they don't have a choice. How on earth can people consider these inhumane things as normal is beyond me, and yeah volunteers like yourself are struggling because of it.

A system of dust/asteroid belts around a young star Fomalhaut in ~25 ly away from the Sun. With help of JWT's Mid-Infrared Instrument (MIRI) we now can see all the inner belts and unlike our Solar system it has 3 visible dust/asteroid belts in sum. How cool is that?

The loneliness and falling out of the social participation very negotively affects health, mental stability, increases the risks of strokes, dementia, unexpected death in old age.
All this only emphasizes what a ruined society mankind has been building for itself throughout these years. The only answer goverments have to this is to create another ministery to do the "patchworking" on top of the broken system (please welcome the "minister of loneliness" from Japan).
This society mastered providing so much shit to consume and advertise to people to think that all of that crap is what they really need and dreamed about, instead of organizing a healthy environment with easy access to the things of basic need, freeing them to care for and to interact with who are really important for Humans: the other Humans. It is time to stop being just the consumers and to learn what is it like to be Humans again and what we really need.
I think, this is nothing wrong if people willingly prefer to pull themselves out of social interactions, to stay alone with themselves if they do not feel any need or desire to participate in those or they are simply tired (if we are not talking about social anxiety disorders and repressed feelings). The problem appears when people are open to participate and seeking for healthy relationships, but cannot find any way to do this within our rapidly changing, trade-based society, which does not care about a sanity of the environment these people have to navigate in, but about them to be healthy and operational enough to continue participate in the cycle of constant consumption and trading.
Also, I'm really surprised to see so many different languages here, never knew there are this many translators for TROM who speak such diverse languages. Anyway, I'm happy to see people helping out like this 🙂

We live in a world where everyone is busy, everyone is consumed, everyone seems confused. Money, social credits, ads, data collection, prices and billionaires. Climate change? Who cares!
A one-marble world, floating in a giant soup of stars and planets, clustered in donut-shaped galaxies.
What are these humans living for?
In a 5 hour, 4 parts documentary, we try to explore their world, to understand what makes them human, what makes them enslave their kind, destroy their habitat, and be unaware of their place in this universe. But also what makes them so special.
Through the lives of 5 humans, we look at the culture that creates them, their struggles growing up on this planet, and where they are headed toward.
I've sent the documentary to those who were part of it. They all watched it and provided a ton of feedback. What was absolutely surprising to me were their reactions overall. I am still unable to compute why they thought so positively about it. You see I have edited this documentary a thousand times so I was unable to understand it anymore. I did not know if it makes sense or not.
So maybe it is good?
I can tell you that their comments range from "Tio deserves and Oscar" haha, to "this documentary is a masterpiece", to "it's a brilliant work" or "the best documentary ever". This seems quite a lot for me to digest but they keep on telling me that. @Georgi watched it first, she could not wait, and digested it in one go sending me tons of feedback while watching it.
She bought a pizza and she said she was so captivated she could not eat much hahah.
@Sasha came in the second place but just 1 hour later than Georgi haha. She 'forced' me to re-watch it all in one go :D. She was so amazed and happy she kept on telling that to me, to the point of me being confused and thinking that she exaggerates. I even asked her to please not exaggerate. haha.
Don't be deceived!
Now, please do not let these feedbacks, some of which were public, influence you when you'll watch it. These people took part in the documentary, they agree with these ideas, and we are very close friends. I keep on saying to lower your expectations even now when you see these first reactions. Please! I am 1 guy, with 1 laptop, and this is the first time I had to record for a documentary and do it in this fashion. Put it into that perspective please. Their reactions and feedbacks are valuable (very much) but I do not want to make people have big expectations from this documentary.
Ok. So these guys also had a few criticisms but way less than I expected. Some 6-7 people watched it and 2 said there are a few "boring" moments in the first part of the documentary. Others said that was their favorite part and not boring at all. One said in the last part we repeated a few things, quite a minor offense ;). Lastly @Dima had some good inputs about the colors of the recordings. Most are ok, but they need to be improved and I am doing it now (again....I improved the colors so many times idk what colors are anymore haha).
But that's all the criticism so far.
The PLAN.
On 20th of May we have that special TROM Meeting. We had one in 2019 after I released the book The Origin of Most Problems. It was great to see all of these wonderful brains together.
For TROM II I still have to do a few things: color correct that may take a week or some 10 days; make a trailer - and I want to make a very good one so this can take a week or more; make a poster (easy); do the sources (time consuming); prepare tromsite.com for the release.
With these being said, I should not force myself to do all of those before the May meeting and quickly release just before that. I want to enjoy that meeting and not think about the release. Plus would be fantastic to make an english subtitle that we can then translate in several languages and release TROM II with them. Wouldn't it be better to release TROM II in a few languages? I think so.
Therefore when we meet in May we can also work on some of these things. Let's do this well!
Release.
I think the best would be to release in the beginning of June. With a good trailer, in multiple languages, better color correction, and all that. This is entirely doable. I do not know the exact date, but should be in the first half of June FOR SURE!

And it boggles my mind to think that all those good quality food would've gone to waste if it wasn't for organizations like this. 40% of all food produced in the world is lost in one way or another?! Now that is a hauntingly high number, we should try to reduce it as much as possible. Thank you Dima for finding such organizations, helping them, and shining a light on them through your videos.

That was huge discovery for me, i was sure that supermarkets and production facilities waste the most. Which was true some time ago, but now it's changed.

I think @Tio deserves an oscar for this one! :) The documentary hasn’t been released yet, but I got to view it last night hehehe :D. It is 4 parts, about 5 hours long, and I watched it in one go, staying up until about 6AM and I couldn’t get my eyes off the screen.
I think Tio did an absolutely fantastic job and it’s really hard to believe that this doco was a one-man job. I’ve seen him struggle with this documentary for the past 2-3 years. At first, he started to make a script and put a bunch of footage together, then he scrapped that idea and decided to interview 4 people (Dima, Aaron, Georgi, and me) + himself. Tio came up with all the questions, hoping to present his view of the world through our answers, combining our general knowledge of the world with our life stories.
We spent months filming these interviews (at night with bright lights and a black background- which later made it challenging to edit). After all the filming was done, Tio had dozens of hours of footage, all scattered in different interviews, between 5 different people. Imagine trying to create a story out of that. Little by little he went through the footage and created a story that pins our world and our human society to the backdrop of the universe, combined this cosmic perspective with 5 personal stories, demonstrated how we, humans, are influenced by our environment, and how so much of this environment is permeated by trade. Then he demonstrates some of the immense problems this has caused, and introduces a new idea on how to tackle those problems.
And of course, to make all of this, he used footage from many many documentaries, movies, video clips, etc. Finding the right footage was a huge challenge (he didn’t use any stock footage) + combining all of this with great music + many editing effects, and a lot more. All in all it was a massive challenge and Tio really nailed it. I am so proud of him :)
Can’t wait for TROM II to be released to the public!!!!

This in itself is a very impressive feat! And also a shout-out to the awesome #FreeSoftware / #OpenSource community for how much it has grown. I heard this documentary is the biggest project ever made on #kdenlive so far, and making such a big documentary by a single person is no joke - took years of hard work to complete.
👉 Following a #FediFirst approach, it will be released on #fediverse platforms like @PeerTube first! Free for all to watch without any ads or data collection. I don't know if this will be uploaded to proprietary platforms like #YouTube, tho I'm sure #Peertube will always have top priority 😉
👉 Unlike the first TROM documentary which was released a decade ago, this one features interviews with people like @Sasha, @Aaron, @Dima, @Georgi and Tio himself. They talk about their personal lives, how they grew up in this world and such, their stories are supposed to give us a larger perspective on how our current society works. I can't tell you much more until I get to watch the documentary and see how all of this falls into place 🙂
👉 No stock footage has been used in the documentary! If making a 5 hour documentary doesn't sound hard enough for you then this will do it, lol 😄 So for example if it shows some scientists looking at data in one scene, then its actual scientists looking at actual data that they work on, not some stock footage of actors pointing at screens and faking stuff. Finding real world footage like this is a time consuming task as it'd require going thorugh a lot of documentaries, videos, etc looking for the right clip you need.
👉 If you've ever read any of the TROM e-books or seen their videos before then you'll know how it goes - looking at the world from a scientific perspective, encouraging people to be curious about the world we live in and the universe that surrounds us, and perhaps most important of all, to cut through all of the social constructs we've been accustomed to and see the world for what it really is, because only if we truly understand our world can we solve the many problems that are plaguing our planet right now. I'll make sure I'll mention this a lot and source all of the footage used. Commercial platforms like YouTube are able to provide people with all kinds of formats because they have the money and resources to do so, you can't expect the same from small Peertube instances run by volunteers. @Freedom is Unity ❤️ Respect If you're complaining that there isn't a 480p or 360p option available, then from what I understand its because of server limitations - converting the video to more formats require a lot of energy, CPU power, and storage space on the server. Looking at the small number of views these videos have, it might actually save more energy by not providing too many formats, tho the biggest hurdle is still the server cost. Commercial platforms like YouTube are able to provide people with all kinds of formats because they have the money and resources to do so, you can't expect the same from small Peertube instances run by volunteers. At least in Peertube it doesn't track and collect data about their users to then sell it to advertisers, nor does it force you to watch ads in their video player, YouTube does all of these and not only would it consume more energy, data and resources, but it also takes away your privacy (data collection) and valuable time (watching ads).
I also wanted to point out that its highly subjective to call 1080p & 720p videos as "monster rates" or "over bloat" since a lot of people have screens with that resolution and prefers watching video in that format, on the other hand you have people who watch Netflix in 4k and 8k 🤷 (I'm not encouraging this behavior just pointing it out)

I don't know where you saw 1440p but it probably has something to do with the height/width ratio of that particular video. And while its true that 360p may consume less MB or storage space, this will also significantly reduce the clarity of the video, sometimes to the point that people with poor eyesight can't read the text on screen or induce eye-strain in some people. The argument about energy can be used against anything really, why not stop making videos and write e-books instead? that'd save a lot more energy, if everyone stops using social media altogether then that'd probably save tons of energy, but we as a society use these things despite their energy expenditure because we find it to be beneficial for us, there are exceptions to this of course but in your case of using 1080p & 720p video quality I don't see this as a waste of energy.

I accept your reply but looking on the previous voice chats etc videos (2gb!! for 2 hours of mostly still faces on screen... with many resized formats) it's clear Gb's and Tb's are not a problem / so cheap (for example getting double for $8 or whatever previously, again honestly mentioned before by Tio). You are honestly saving trom from a lot of its data sins.. Really appreciate actual effort and the all in one file. Feels like head doesn't care more than the helper minion-PR types who are and aren't even part of it somewhat. Who knows...
Finally the TROM II documentary is done and it was sent to the ones who took part in it for review. From now one there will be no change, unless they notice anything that is REALLY REALLY bad and needs to be fixed. Or typos.

I clearly say this in a way that would be more effective in sharing the vision of your project which I think is very important to highlight all things leading and maintaining unfair inequality, exploitation, resource and capital accumulation, attention economy (which is what I assume you are tired of just as me). Amazing to see what even small amount of Humans are capable of.. So I watched @Derek's video about #Linux becoming too complicated & limiting, and also saw @Brodie Robertson's response to that video. And this is what I have to say:
If you ask me, what I feel like Linux is kinda getting worse at is not #customizability, but its the consistency of that #customization, I'll explain what that means. At first this was not something I've payed much attention to before, but then I started helping out with this Linux distro called #Tromjaro and a lot of my work was done for fixing #consistency in theming. So what's the issue? By default in most Linux distros if you change the system theme to your liking then that theme will only be applied to around 50% of the apps, depending on your distro it could be either #GTK apps or #QT apps. So if you want to have consistent #theming across all apps then you'll have to install a new program (like qt5ct) and enable the same (or similar) theme there as well. Having to change your theme in multiple programs is bad #UX, and to make things worse most new users don't even know what QT or GTK is, so when half of their apps don't respect their chosen theme they'll think its an issue with the program itself and that its unsolvable, I know this because I've been there. Now I don't understand why most Linux distros don't try to fix this issue, because this isn't just about "customization" but its important for #accessibility too, people may enable a dark-theme because its easier on their eyes, or use a different font so they can read better. Anyway, the only mainstream distro I'm aware of that do try to sync themes between GTK & QT apps is Linux mint, they still don't sync the font or icon set but its still better than nothing. So coming back to TROMjaro, we wanted to properly fix this issue, and in the end we were able to sync GTK & QT #themes, system font, icon set (this one is important because if you use a dark-looking icon set on top of a dark theme then you can't see it properly), and we even fixed the theming for #flatpaks (the ones that do support external theming). So after all this I can say that libadwaita apps were one of the hardest to theme, these apps refuse to use the system #theme and instead show a light theme which sticks out like a sore thumb. Now there is an AUR package called libadwaita-without-adwaita-git which can be used to force the system theme on libadwaita apps, and this is what we currently use for TROMjaro. But this feels like more complicated than it should be, and as #libadwaita keeps evolving I don't know how long this AUR package will keep working.
Also there's one other thing I wanted to mention in response to your videos - customizability and user-friendliness don't have to be mutually exclusive. So despite doing all of these things to apply consistent theming across apps, we also added a custom theme-switcher app to TROMjaro that is easier to use for new users, it simply lets the user choose between a light and dark theme with various accent colors. Remember the issue with using dark-looking icon set on top of a dark theme? Well it appears like most people are not aware of the fact that they should also change their icon set when switching to a dark/light theme, so we made the theme-switcher handle this automatically for them. So if a user wants to have the ultimate customization power and apply some crazy looking themes then they can do so via XFCE's regular settings (and TROMjaro syncs the theme between GTK & QT), but for those who want a simpler user-friendly interface they can use the theme-switcher we made. Similarly we've made a layout-switcher app for showcasing different presets for XFCE that users can choose from, but if someone wants to make more customization on top of it then they can do so via regular XFCE options. So in some ways its possible to be user-friendly and customizable at the same time, at least to some extend.
I know I talked a lot about TROMjaro but honestly I'd be happy to see more Linux distros doing similar things, consistent theming for example would be a great UX for any #GUI distros in my opinion.
Yeah I've been screaming about this inconsistency for some time now. It is something not many linux-tubers talk about or test when they test new distros. I am so happy we did what we did with TROMjaro. Thanks Roko for your thoughtful thoughts and for being part of the project!
@Tio @Brodie Robertson @Derek Honestly there's a lot of these little #UX issues in #Linux that I haven't noticed before until I started working for TROMjaro, and I'm glad we were able to fix some of those issues ourselves. I think maybe part of the reason why you notice such things is because you let your parents, sister & wife use it, so just by observing how your family use TROMjaro you can infer which areas can be confusing for normal everyday people who lacks the technical know-how.

When I had a cassete player, I recorded my favorite tracks from different cassetes to make personal mixes and to have them in the order as I want them to be, took me hours. Then I have got my first MP3 player, it was on 128mb of memory and it allowed only 15-20 tracks to be uploaded (with better quality of course, with more compression it might be even more tracks), but it was such a blast. No more rewinding back and forth, tracks switching is instant, you can shuffle them, it was amazing. Obviously I had a bunch of folders with different track to reupload each time when needed.

After even more time when the Internet was developed enough in my country, the music streaming started to emerge. Just think about it: you have an access to millions of tracks, you can listen to them almost instanly, you can try some of them and add into favorites if you want, you can listen all sorts of recommendations to discover new music you may like, mix your own radio stations or playlists and share it with your friends. Just awesome. On the other side of things: the musicians themselves have a convinient platform to release their songs quickly and having a huge audience to be probably interested in listening to. This is what is the Internet for, this is the way it should be..
And then there is always the trade base world to interfere. Your carefully crafted music collection is actually not your own. Do you want to open your music player one day and realize that some of your songs are miraculously disappear because of the licensing problems? You got it! Do you want your player to remove all your downloaded music because you have not payed the subscription in time? You have it! Do you want your player not to be able to switch tracks, listen to some ads in between songs or other amazing "freemium" features? Be my guest. And of course there are the musicians which can be underpayed easily, because nobody has any idea how the musician can calculate his/her wage in this total mess of the license owning companies which are selling each other rights on the music and do not give a shit about any of it, except making more profit. At the end we have the annoyed music lovers who does not own any real access to the music they love and the utterly confused musicians who do not control their music anymore. What a waste!

We need more trade-free goods and services, including the music share services. People who like making music should be connected with those who like listen to it, that is it, it is that simple. Just imagine if the musicians would not need to trade their asses to simply survive, but to easily share it with all others in the world with no cost, finding more people who can relate to their thoughts and feelings, instead of relying only on those who can afford to buy it. An artist should be able to survive and live a good life, not because their art sells good, but because they're a human being like you and me. Our trade based society forces us to sell stuff in order to survive, if your art doesn't sell or if you don't want to sell it, then your needs are ignored. We're in 2023 and people are still left alone to fend for themselves, when are we gonna grow up and act like an intelligent species? to help our fellow brothers and sisters so that they can live a happy healthy life in this planet, instead of forcing them to sell more shit.

As a band if you want your music to be published on spotify and similar platforms you need an agency who will deliver your music to them. You need to pay for it. As a musician you need to create music, record music and then pay to some agencies to publish it on streaming platforms. Price might be different , depending on the agency and if it's one single, several, or album, but more or less 15-20$ per song. Some agencies ask for yearly subscriptions. In return as a music band we've got profit from streaming. The numbers are follow, for around 3-7 streams the band got 0.01$ . Then from this 0.01$ agency will take a fee and the rest have to be divided between band members in our case 4 people. And also after that you will pay taxes. Only top 1% of musicians can make some money there. The ones who got millions streams.

Or like in the ancient TV show “LA Law,” some young associate got into law because of its potential to help people, but are alarmed about the amount of billable business they have to drum up to be afforded the privilege of a little pro bono work. Whatever pro-social things are instituted are set up as negative sum games; the house always wins.

The intellectual property you mentioned is also a good example of creating the artificial scarcity and the only reason for that is to allow only the "owner" to milk his idea, because it is what Humans do for their entire life on this planet - trying to find their own "holy grail" to trade and if they found it, to clung on it whatever it costs (people in law are happy to help setting this "right" of theirs in stone). No way they may want others to have a piece of this sweety pie, you all should go and find your own "thing" to milk! In this way obviously they call the fact that people would still try to share the idea sowehow or copy it with some very unpleasant name as "piracy" and set a hunt on those, because of course everyone needs to respect the game..

Yeah, the musicians are in the dependent situation as any of us, we all have to find a way to sell our shit somehow whatever it is. From selling useless garbage on the streets to the tourists, to selling yachts, cars, penthouses, painting, you name it and searching the most profitable way to do it with all sorts of scam and fraud. Our initial intention of course might be, hey, I can actually sell it and be a good guy, I would never try to fuck with people, but sad truth is that in this society it's actually impossible, you will be caught in the nets of trading and to keep your shit together you will be pushed to grow your profits infinitely. What I've noticed is that almost all "responsible businesses" starting very good, doing a really good product, going famous with it and eventially falling into complete fuckery. And that's because capitalism model is good when things are calm and steady, you're growing, income is growing, everybody's happy. But an inevitable truth is that you cannot grow forever, it's just impossible. At certain point crisis is comming and you'll have to start to search for the ways to continue growing. The easiest way is to start to fuck with people who believed in you, using your previous good reputation to cover it, to buy out the competitors and to make them go total shit, to exploit your previously accumulated user base, so you still can use these little wins to showcase that you're still making money to your investors.
I think my point was exactly this. In general, Spotify or Apple Music do not like a bad idea, it might become a some sort of social network for music loving people, who connect and share with each other, find a new technological ways to make the process interesting and enjoyable. But as any other great idea in this world, being based on trading and making money in the foundation, become useless kind of a parody to itself after a while.
And I totally agree we need something like this in the Open Source world. Some federated alternative. The most close thing I know is the Funkwhale, but it's mostly about organisation your media library, but might be developed into something we think about. Unfortunately, it would also require the people of your mentality, liking to share their music free and with nothing to return, but as you mentioned, it's hard to get a decent amount of the musicians on board with that idea, since they have to sell their music, not share it for free. Not to blame anybody, I complety understand their motives. There's not people to be blamed, there's a fucked up cruel trade-base society we live in to incentive people behaving like that..
