Divorcing myself from this retarded society

Very good point Tio, and great artworks! Yeah, that's exactly my thoughts, like wtf, they bomb civilians in Gaza like crazy, and it's ok for EU and US, they even help doing this. And people opinions are divided, some are for Palestine others for Israel when in fact all of them committing brutal crimes and one side is no better than the other. Of course Gaza it is like an open prison for many many years already, which is also very cruel and inhumane. I was also quite sadden to see the reaction of EU... But that's politics. Good point, not to trust or even take seriously any politician, it's all corrupted and fake. They twist everything as its more beneficial for them.

You just pretty much summed it up in this blog post, politics is full of lies and propaganda man..... Every now and then I see these images of the atrocities caused by wars, on the internet, newspaper, etc..... be it in Ukraine, Palestine, Israel, etc.... Does it really matter which place is getting hit? Innocent people are getting hurt, and many die because of these wars..... This is very sad and awful...... 😔

We in fact have 41 people subscribed for 200 for TROM campaign and not 38. See https://www.tromsite.com/donate/ - our system did not work 100% well and we had to fix some stuff. Still fixing some other things. But 41 people are amazing for supporting TROM. A huge thank you! Maybe, eventually, we will reach the 200 goal. We need 160 more people and then TROM will be forever ok :) and we can keep producing more content, more projects. #tromlive

Just saying that religion in a lot of BS, and creates a lot of conflict.

We are all humans. A beautiful and real story of evolving from little simple things, to big complex things. We are the universe itself, and this is no exaggeration.

I wish people were not so primitive...

I am working to find a cheaper solution for my personal backups that are about 3-4TB. Borgbase is too expensive. I bought a Hetzner Storage Box - 13 Euros a month for 5TB. That's insanely cheap. 3x cheaper than BorgBase. And it supports borg, sftp, webdav and more.

Currently I am trying a new app I found - Kopia - entirely open source and fast as hell. That plus Hetzner via webdav. So far so great. I will make an article after I decide how to move forward with the backups. Could be an interesting article in terms of how I manage to backup some 2-3TB of server files and some 3-4TB of personal files. Millions in total. Daily. Automated and encrypted.

I have also looked at Hetnzer's storage pods. DO KEEP IN MIND: they don't have redundancy

(by that I mean: yes, they do use RAID but it's all on one server.
If you compare that with Backblaze B2 for example: there it's more distributed across the entire data center)

While an OVHfire type situation would likely destroy an entire datacenter, with Backblaze it's possible that the only the affected area lost some data but not all of it.

also: don't underestimate social connections: if you have friends who do self hosting things or have a NAS: ask if you could use some.

"Can I store x TB on your server if you get to store x TB on my server?"
Doesn't get much cheaper than that

in reply to Thibault Molleman🇧🇪 🌈🐝

Sure if you have that, but I need 4-5TB....hard to find someone with so much diskspace to spare....
in reply to Tio

it's suprising how often someone in your friend group might be an /r/datahoarder and has a ton of storage
in reply to Thibault Molleman🇧🇪 🌈🐝

I understand but I am willing to take that risk. Hopefully no one blows up Hetzner datacenters :D. And if they do is ok, these are just backups. My personal files are safe on my laptop anyway and will do new backups.
in reply to Tio

as long as you do 3-2-1 backup
There should be 3 copies of data
On 2 different media
With 1 copy being off-site

I do not. I used to but not anymore. Costs more money and makes you glued to external drives. I need to find a balance between keeping my files safe and myself sane :). Most people do no backups. I do them to an online location and I think that's enough. Even if I lose them all no biggie I have my files on my computer I can start as new. :)

Go Israel!!! Wohoo! Kill those bastards who behaved like animals and killed women and children and innocent people of Israel!

Kill the children and women and innocent people too!

Oh wait... Israel is doing what Hamas has done....

Anyway, good job Israel. Keep on killing! And then the families of the ones you killed will revenge one day, and then you can kill more, and then more of their families and friends will kill your people...

Awesome!

EDIT: A good article about the situation - currentaffairs.org/2023/10/you…

This is the cycle of revenge that perpetuates violence and atrocities.

I'd like to share this interview of Noam Chomsky about terrorism and how we can reduce its risk, he also talks about how it's only considered terrorism by the media when they do it to us and not when we do it to them.

What consumes a lot of my time with TROMjaro is to test and fix the GTK and QT theme sync...oh and fix the Libadwaita ones....and the Flatpak ones...damn such a mess! It is fucked up that you do not allow the system to wrap/hug your app window so that we can have the same damn window bars and borders for all apps for functionality/usability and style reasons. idk who thought it is a good idea to force their own window wrapping....terrible!

Plus to not respect the system's theme....

So at times I wonder if I should give up and not fix this. Let people have a wide variety of themes, buttons, colors, shadows, borders....and embrace the mess. idk....but currently we have to do a LOT of dancing in TROMjaro to sync this with that, check the system's theme, copy the contents there, do the same for icons, check the font....WTF.

In what sane Operating System is it that apps look different in terms of their windows and buttons from what the System uses, or be unable to change the font for all apps or icons...like...why are some people killing the theming in Linux!?

This is tiring... #tromstuff

This has always been my stance in regards to theming, I'm not a big customization freak or anything so I mostly just go along with the default theme of the distro I'm using, but if the apps don't respect my dark theme or font sizes then my eyes are gonna suffer - this is not about customization it's about accessibility.

One day I may do that. But I need to clean up the code a lot.

Amazing and difficult journey. Great last video!

Damn to go through those tall mountains, alone, with a backpack that's almost your size, for 2 months straight....is insane. But that's Sasha! She is insane, in a good way. You can see the entire adventure on her Peertube channel videos.trom.tf/c/big_world_sma… .

Tough human! Little, but tough!

And the last days of my thru-hike across the Pyrenees: https://videos.trom.tf/w/rGU6BudRpmaNbZrNTBPG99

I actually made it to the end! 😁

Our next TROM big project will be a stuff sharing platform that uses the Activitypub protocol. So anyone can spin their own local sharing platform and connect with the rest. It is a long term plan, but we will try to do it. It is just an idea for now.... but the other TROM projects were ideas too.

Being forced to move from Cuntabo to two different hosting providers trained me in regards to how we can move all of our websites somewhere else, and doing so only relying on our backups. Our backups go to BorgBase and are all encrypted. Even if we are kicked out from a hosting company, we will find another and restore from our backups.

Actually we can host at home on our computers....and again restore from our backups. But for now I would not want that.

With @YunoHost and Borg I now feel safe.

I can move TROM.tf in 2 days, and the rest of our websites in maybe 1 day.

So yah, I am happy that I was forced to move because now I know all of these things.

All of our TROM Files are again available via TROM Files https://www.tromsite.com/save/ - we make everything available for everyone, as trade-free. If more people would practice what we do, to create trade-free goods and services, the world would be a better place. It is tough of course, since the entire society relies on trade. But we must start something like this, despite being so difficult.

I see this posted on several websites recently:

Well....Youtube labels itself as a video platform instead of an ad platform or video-ad platform, or something similar. So yeah...people may get confused when Youtube act like an ad company. But they are.

Same way that facebook is not a social network, is an ad network.

This is an amazing article. Your YNH+Borg+Timeshift backup looks promising. I will have to think of something similar for backing up my own data.

The move of TROM.tf to the new server is now complete! As a bonus we have raised the storage for TROM Files from 5GB to 10GB for everyone, plus added Deck - an alternative to Trello, so that you can organize tasks and collaborate with others.

We've also increased the size limit for TROM Send from 5GB to 10GB.

The new server is more powerful and has a lot more storage space. But also a little bit more expensive. So please consider a donation to support TROM.

Cheers! #tromlive

Testing Friendica from the new server :) - took around 1-2 hours to fully restore friendica and set it up from 0. Not terrible at all. :)
