Daily reminder that blocking other instances or users, on a server level (so instance admins blocking them) is a very bad practice. It breaks the fediverse. It is not transparent at all so no one even knows when and how it happens; and it is a decision that can affect hundreds of thousands of users without them being aware of.

Totally agree on that point. That's so called "information hygiene", it's a thing that is never been taught to people, but I would say it must have thing in our infomational century we just statring to live in. Of course the first fearful reaction of unprepared mind on the unpleasant information is to cancel/block/destruct/blow up entirely without any hesitation. I'm not sure if friendica's already having this ability, but it might be a good idea to give the block function for an entire instance to each user personally, not only admins. In this case users can decide only for themselves if they don't want to see the posts or contact the users of that server without affecting anybody else and actually making these decisions for all other users. This is respectful freedom I would like to see :)
Currently Friendica does not have such a feature...but it is something I would insist they would add :D . And you are right, we are faced with this digital world but we are not taught, or at least have discussions about how to manage this online life of ours. That's why many react immediately and not thinking about the consequences of censoring/blocking content and people. The school should be for such things....but it is not.
We are experiencing some issues with the TROM.tf server. ytb.trom.tf (invidious) and bird.trom.tf (nitter) do not work currently. We've seen similar issues with these instances in the past and we have not found a solution. We will look more into this.
files.trom.tf (nextcloud) cannot connect with our OnlyOffice server. OnlyOffice is not well maintained by @YunoHost it seems - not updated in more than a year. So maybe that's the issue. We have enabled Collabora as an alternative to this.

It is great that XFCE's file manager Thunar will get a proper search function. This is really needed and basic. But XFCE takes ages, literally, to push updates to stable....luckily in TROMjaro all I have to do is search for the git version in Add/Remove Software and click install. And voilla I run the latest Thunar:

I also fucked up since I did some gargling with water and salt (usually this helps me when in such pain), but I exaggerated and put a ton of salt in the water. Hurt like a bitch.
Then I also used another spray that was for infection+pus....and that also fucking hurt. Now I bought something for canker sores and the doctor said is fine to use it. Hurts less but still...I also tried several painkillers. Nothing works.

Man it really hurts and it is so uncomfortable. Even my ear hurts. Painful pains that last for many days, or longer, are (of course) the fucking worst. I had kidney stones and here's a post I did about it. That was way worse, tho what I experience now it is getting closer to that experience if it keeps on lasting. I forgot about that kidney stone event. And that's normal. And that's my point.

That I know for sure. May take days or a week or so, but eventually it will go away. And this is the point of this post. You know when you are in a lot of pain and your health sucks balls and you think: fhuck, I'm gonna die! You won't. Except in very rare cases if you have a terminal illness, in which case this article won't help you at all :( .

Even now I remember how awful that pain was. I could not lift up my leg, and took months to go away. I had to learn to kick the football ball with the other leg because the right one was hurting. It is funny that I did not give up football tho, despite the pain :D.
Several years ago I had a constant pain here:
That would not go away for 2-3 fucking months. I thought I am losing my mind it was so awful. Not that painful, but fucking constant. I thought there is no life without that pain, that it will be there forever.
But eventually it went away. Took me weeks to get rid of the ghost pain tho. It got tattooed into my brain.
I also had a skin rush on my face that period of time (as you can see in this photo :) ):
And hurt and was uncomfortable. Took me months to get rid of it.
We all have these moments. And it seems to me like that whenever we have them we feel like dying. I dream about the day when I won't have that fucking pain. To then forget about it the next day I feel ok.

I had COVID and this started after that COVID episode.
I just had COVID in like a month or so ago and it actually triggered some inflamation symptoms that I have from being celiac. The worst one was being out of breath due to asthma being triggered. It went away in a week or two after the COVID symptoms.
I've read that ibuprofen can also cause such mouth ulcers.
So, I have some experience with NSAIDs since I had to take then for a long time for arthritis pain (again inflamation from celiac).
So six months after I stopped eating gluten, I was still having bad stomach/intestinal issues, those started to get better as soon as I stopped taking the NSAIDs (even though I had to deal with pretty bad pains for like two months without the drugs), so I learned they were worsening my celiac symptoms. Nowadays my arthritis got a lot better so I don't even need drugs anymore for that :).
Today I am very careful to only take any drugs unless it is absolutely necessary (and no more NSAIDs)
Thanks! Seems to be getting better. I finally got a better look at it by a better doctor and she game me a treatment. She told me is likely because of COVID - after such an infection my body went into buggy mode. A few software and hardware bugs :D.
Oh man.. I had almost the same about a month ago, I think it was something related to COVID as well, although I had all my tests negative. I slept barely for about 2 weeks straight, pain in trought came in suddenly and went away also suddenly, then returned again and it was a few times of shit. Got only Paracetamole and mint candies from a doctor :D, which barely worked, so had to suffer it all through..

Yeah, I had throat inflammation, very painful :( I actually didn't have COVID even once officially (by the test results, but it might be false-negatives), but maybe it was it eventually. Because symptoms are very unusual, not like a flu or something similar. So it was gone as unexpectedly as it came in first place :D I hope it will be cured for you soon ;)

Still hurts, still have no idea what virus she is talking about.

Doctors are still normal humans of this society, so they try to just treat symptoms, we dont have access to easily use the technology that would tell us the cause of the symptoms.
For example, I recently found out that I have celiac disease, or at least gluten intolerance. Now I have been having symptoms of that since I was a small kid, and I went to many doctors while growing up, but they would always just prescribe some drugs for the symptoms, never look for the cause, I feel like they only look more into it if you are dying or something.
But anyways, I had to find out by myself that I had this disease, after the symptoms were getting really bad, and I would go to doctors and they would say "theres nothing wrong with you, its probably just anxiety". Now that I started actually treating it my symptoms got a lot better, but I will still have to deal with some of them for who knows how long, since I have been eating gluten stuff daily for almost my whole life.

Yeah or when you bleed...bleeding is always triggering them it seems. On one had I understand that they need standard procedures to cope with a large population, but I think that we should develop smarted systems, many remote, so that humans are able to get to talk to a doctor whenever they need one. Even a chat-support is useful when done right.
You should consider taking paracetamol instead of ibuprofen.
Your doctor doesn't actually know that you have a virus unless they did a lab test. You've been sent home for monitoring, which is almost certainly the right call, but you're the one doing the monitoring and it sounds like they didn't make that clear.
Ibuprofen can worsen some conditions you could have, and paracetamol will reduce your pain too, so it's better in this case.
Also, disclaimer: I'm not a doctor, I worked in medical terminology for many years, so I'm very familiar with the system but have no formal medical training.
Yeah the doctor told to me to take some painkillers but I tried 2 and made no difference, including paracetamol. Ibuprofen makes you bleed more and I have a bleeding issue with my nose, started to bleed a lot more now with COVID and me taking ibuprofen. So I would avoid that. I've also read that Ibuprofen can cause these mouth ulcers too...so better avoid that. The good part is that I can go to the doctor for free whenever I want so in case I do not feel better I will go and talk to them more.

I am still in the process of fighting things that are attacking my body. I am COVID negative but I was left with a very bad throat infection. Eating is a very painful challenge, so much so I refuse to even eat most of the time; swallowing, talking, anything feels so painful. If I try to yawn, a pleasurable feeling usually, I have to stop mid-way and it wakes me up from my sleepiness.
Because of the pain I have no patience to work on anything. It also affects one of my ears...

!Friendica Admins So, how can we do the emoji thing properly in Friendica? What can I, as admin, enable? I tested all addons but they seem to not work. Only the Smiley Unicode transforms certain text into emoji. The rest seem to do nothing.
Smiley Pack - I do not understand what it does. smileybutton - Shows me a list of emojis (this is the best approach in my view) but I cannot select any....seems broken Adult Smilies - again idk what it does.
Would be great to have a way to let users select emoji's from a list. Maybe there is a way, but am not aware of!?
@Tio hmm Friendica relies on the user to use her emotiocons as they like, there is no need for any add-on for it to work. Mobile devices often offer to insert them from the keyboard, at least OpenBoard for Android does. In many Webbrowsers you can use addons to insert emoticons easily.

In any case, there is a good change I will restart my TROM II work....but I need a few days to recover, do some otehr things like I want to make another TROMjaro video, and so on. Then I can decide. I may create a page for TROM II on tromsite and showcase there some samples from the documentary and ask people to donate if they wanna help out...

The contact form from tromsite.com/contact/ has been restored to the original one. The new one was kinda shitty and flagged most emails as spam. So we would not get any email....the weird thing is that, believe it or not, it is damn impossible to find a good, simple and non-google integrated contact form for WP. This is crazy.
Why does this google shit has to be everywhere? Its crazy how ubiquitous these tech giants are, its almost getting to the point where we can't properly function in society without having one of their accounts!
For contact forms it is this recaptcha spam filter that is owned by google and it is used by the vast majority, almost all, contact wp plugins....they may do a good job at it, but they also inject trackers and collect data...
What websites? Because the contact forms we have are on tromsite.com/contact/ and my website tiotrom.com/contact/ - these use a smartish spam filter in the background. I wish I could find contact forms with simple question based spam filters....
Oh I meant the simple question based spam filter on directory.trade-free.org when you try to submit a new post, I thought you guys were using similar methods for all your websites.....
These goods and services are submitted and reviewed by people like you. We cannot guarantee that all of what you see here is trade-free, since at times it is very difficult to review them all and do so properly.
Are they spam bots ? If you want a more powerful captcha then maybe you can use this open source one - github.com/daniel-e/rust-captc… I believe this is what @LemmyDev uses for account creation and stuff like that.
Probably spam bots....as for implementing that is not as easy ofc....not for me at least. I use WP for a reason: I won't code any website from scratch. I use plugins. I install, tweak, customize. That's my power. Not more than that :D

That's so called "information hygiene", it's a thing that is never been taught to people, but I would say it must have thing in our infomational century we just statring to live in. Of course the first fearful reaction of unprepared mind on the unpleasant information is to cancel/block/destruct/blow up entirely without any hesitation. I want to believe that people will become more sane after all, as well as you mentioned Tio - with the new more flexble tools to control own personal information streams.
I'm not sure if friendica's already having this ability, but it might be a good idea to give the block function for an entire instance to each user personally, not only admins. In this case users can decide only for themselves if they don't want to see the posts or contact the users of that server without affecting anybody else and actually making these decisions for all other users. This is respectful freedom I would like to see :)
