I think I found a proper livechat for our livestreams :D . It is directly working from our website itself, and you need to account. We will use it for our next tromcast. We may have to do tromcast in a bit of a different way so we make sure it properly works. There 2 issues with our peertube instance of peertube in general:
The proper way to livestream is to livestream and have the video auto save in your account + convert. Problem is, this is buggy and stops the stream after 1h or so.
Because of that we had to do our previous streams without the conversion, but we ended up reuploading the casts to convert them, so the url changed, and we would delete the original stream url. But that also stopped working...
And in general if your connection drops (for whatever reasons), then the streams interrupts and that's it. It is done!

But considering points 1 and 2, then this is ok. We already had to do that...
In this new way I am pretty sure all livestreams will go through and not fail + it is easy to implement this into tromsite.com/live with a chat.

I upgraded our main server that hosts all of our websites except trom.tf. From 6 cores, 16GB of RAM, and 400GB SSD, to 8 cores, 30GB of RAM, and 800GB SSD. We were hitting the limit with this one, our processes were killed daily and the storage space was 95% full. We host all of our files here via our Nextcloud. So yah, happy!
Just 8 more euros a month, almost exactly as much as we paid for musikwave.com and since I will close that one in a month or so, then is all good. At least now our main server should be good for the next many years. #tromlive
Our search.trom.tf was not working properly for the past week or so. I think that a ynh update broke it a bit. I did some "fix" and should be working better now. Will keep an eye on it. #tromlive
The new tromjaro.com homepage is 98% done. I worked a lot today I felt like puking I worked so much.... I managed to highlight all of the awesome features of TROMjaro XFCE. Lets see what I'll do tomorrow. I want to finish the homepage, then remove some articles that are not relevant anymore for the XFCE version, plus remove some gnome apps from our library that require gnome shell to be installed alongside a lot of gnome crap, since is not ok with XFCE. And I want to make a new article explaining the move to XFCE, and maybe a short walkthrough and comparison with the gnome version. I shall not stress myself too much over it. I shall enjoy it!
I also need to fix a bug with the current XFCE version.
Working on the new homepage. A bit unnecessarily stressed these days, but am still happy and very motivated to create such tools and push this trade-free idea. Whoever is with me, great. Whoever is not, whatever. :) . As soon as I will release TROMjaro XFCE am going back to work on TROM II.
These are the things that keep me awake at night and alive. To scream about the "matrix" of this society. Expose the underlying and dumb truth about our society + the mind blowing and wonderfulness of the reality we discovered through science. How else can I spend my life!? :P
The contrast between the above and how most people live and think, is what annoys me and makes me react immediately.

It is going to be more of a personal touch to the documentary. Different from what I've done with the first TROM. It is hard to explain, but will try to be from a different perspective. Actually we call it TROM II: A Message to the Aliens. In a way, pretending to send a message to some alien species about how fucked up our society is, but also how amazing the reality we discovered so far is. But, we will also explain that we could, in theory, fix this mess. It is difficult to explain more than that and even I do not know exactly where the documentary is going. 45 minutes in, but probably 3 or more hours to make.
I voluntarily asked for our Invidious instance ytb.trom.tf to be removed from the official invidious lists until we have a properly working instance. The Yunohost package that we use does not work properly, it crashes so often and at times gets stuck for hours until I manually restart it. It's ok and fair to remove it. #tromlive
FIxing some last minute things with TROMjaro XFCE before the Beta release. And working on the website too...won't release today. As soon as I am able to I will. #tromlive

From my initial tests this new TROMjaro is overall superior to Gnome. It is clearly faster and snappier, is easier to use overall, has a lot more settings in terms of everything...customize the look and all that + we added a bunch of things like tweak your RGB lights for your devices, mouse buttons, touch or mouse gestures, and more. But it is not crazy when it comes to options. XFCE has a sane amount of them. XFCE is really amazing!

After doing some tests, I'd say the global menus + HUD + topbar window buttons work with around 70% of applications. Is that good? Not ideal! But the good part is that the apps that don't work with these are small apps that either don't need to be maximized or have a complex menu. The vast majority of them are like that. So we think about if we should maybe add some buttons/options for users to enable/disable the global menus + top bar window buttons + HUD.
I am also uploading a video I made about how TROMjaro XFCE works on a tablet. Probably will post it tomorrow. These days I am pretty sure we will get it to the Beta version and will add it as official on tromjaro.com. #tromlive

Tomorrow I'll make a video to showcase TROMjaro on a tablet with touch gestures and all that! XFCE is fucking sane! Enough settings to let you do pretty much anything you want with it, but not too many so it will make you depressed at so many settings.

I managed to customize HUD for TROMjaro XFCE:
Is beyond me how this functionality is not in every Linux distro by default. I see no negative aspects of it, only positive. You either do not use it and you don't care, or you use it and care a lot. Press a single keyboard key and go through all of the menu of an app quickly, find what you need and apply. So damn useful! It is part of our distro for sure! Plus global menus.
I think we've done most of what is to be done for TROMjaro XFCE, but we have to polish it a bit here and there and test more. I plan to release a beta soonish, and beta will be added to tromjaro.com to the install page and we will change the main tromjaro.com page to reflect TROMjaro XFCE. Plus we will release it like we do with the main ISO, with release notes and such. So that people can already use TROMjaro XFCE as their daily driver. Excited! @tromlive
Our Invidious instance is simply not reliable - ytb.trom.tf/ . I am tired of trying to find a solution to be honest. And I reported the issue to everywhere I could report it, many many times. Could be an issue with the @YunoHost packaging according to the Invidious developers. "502 Bad Gateway nginx" that's the error and we could not figure what is causing it. We have added a warning a while ago to trom.tf about this, so is not like we are not aware of it. We want to provide trade-free services that are reliable, but invidious is not one of them. SearX misfires a few times too, but 99% is working. If anyone can help here's one of the issues I opened github.com/YunoHost-Apps/invid…
We have a very fast SSD and we run 20+ other services that are far more resource hungry than invidious. All work fine. It is very likely an issue with how yunohost packaged it probably....

Yes but this was not the issue. I talked a lot with the invidious developers and they said the error is just a "display" error. I also commented that line and made no difference.
I got the change to test it on a laptop for the first time, and it did not go well. Tried for like 2 hours. Then I realized I missed some stuff from the build. So I fixed it eventually. Meaning that the previous ISOs were not able to install the system, only to test it in a live environment. Sorry about that, but is the process of testing. So we fixed that and a few other things. There are some bugs like the wallpapers do not respect the workspaces we setup, it only showcases the first wallpaper. Plus we have to improve the way we deal with workspaces because currently the right side preview may become annoying.
I also tested the BTRF and timeshift snapshots and the great part is that they work very fast. Blazing fast. To backup and restore. However I could not restore form GRUB although you can see the options in our custom GRUB too. I don't know why but could not restore from there.
Now I will have to basically wait and see how well it works on that laptop + I will try to install it on my tablet to test it

I got the change to test it on a laptop for the first time, and it did not go well. Tried for like 2 hours. Then I realized I missed some stuff from the build. So I fixed it eventually. Meaning that the previous ISOs were not able to install the system, only to test it in a live environment. Sorry about that, but is the process of testing. So we fixed that and a few other things. There are some bugs like the wallpapers do not respect the workspaces we setup, it only showcases the first wallpaper. I have delayed the TROM II work these days....you see I was using my 4TB HDD where all of the project files reside, inside my laptop where the main disk should be, and my OS disk was where the DVDroom used to be. But that wasnt great for my main disk. And the 4TB is too fat to put it in the DVDroom place. Anyways, I had to remove it and add it as "external" via USB, but I am still waiting for a case for it, else it stays connected in a weird way via USB 2.0. And I'd like not to use it much so to not damage it.

In a way it scares me how many things I have to do/manage: trom.tf has 22 or so services, they need updated, customized, tested, backedup, and to keep them well configured. tromsite.com, tiotrom.com, videoneat.com, trade-free.org and the directory, and a bunch more websites that need to work, be updated, backedup. Our chats, my external hard drives where all my files and backups are, the people who depend on our services, tromjaro and the apps we showcase in our library, the documentary I'm making....at times I feel trapped in the computer. But then I wonder what else should I do with my life....go out see the nature that's cool, but my brain in hungry for more. I want to know, I want to learn, I want to inform others, I want to engage with others over important ideas.
I wish I had a thousand lives, to live a thousand ways.
Computers are not keyboards and screens, they are mind-toys. They open up a wormhole to your brain. And to me that's fascinating. For most is a pile of garbage, is facebook, youtube, twitter, ticktok, netflix and the like flushing their toilets into that wormhole. That's why our work at TROM is very important, because is not about the software. It's about your brain. It's about you not having to watch ads, sponsored content, trade your data, and use that time in better ways. Is about thousands of courses/documentaries on videoneat to make your brain experience reality; is about engaging with us, tromcast, trom.tf, keep yourself saner overall.
It wouldn't be wrong if I say the main purpose of TROM is education, right ? 🤔
Because in the end, I think that's what you're aiming for, to learn more about the world, share your knowledge with others, etc. TROM is for the curious minds :)
