Our ZDay presentation is now translated into 4 languages: Spanish, Portuguese, Czech and Catalan https://videos.trom.tf/w/d5wwwrwGD7D3EE2BuTw6uT

Kudos to the people who are translating these TROM videos without anyone asking them to do so or how to do it. At TROM we work in this decentralized and more emerging style: people can get involved with whatever they can, and do it on their own.

We only provide some tools and platforms, like our Translation Matrix chat https://matrix.to/#/#translation:matrix.trom.tf

Amazing people. One of them actually, Lenka, we meet at ZDay. She came because of TROM and she quickly became our friend.

Now she made the Czech subtitle for the presentation and she wants to work on the entire TROM II documentary to subtitle it into Czech. Awesome people!

@Tio

I have visited Aaron this weekend:

Such an amazing guy! As always. In 2 days I will return home, I am still at @Roma 's place.

After I return I will make a big article about the entire ZDay experience and meeting lots of wonderful people. Then I will focus to update our servers and services, including our Friendica! Currently we need to put Friendica in maintenance mode for some 20 minutes a day to backup the database....but that sucks since you cannot use it for this period of time. So I need to fix that too.

Anyway, I have had a wonderful experience for these past 10 or so days and I hope to have more of these experiences.

If Jesus or Superman were to exist in today's society, they would not be able to survive just by doing good things, by helping others and so forth. They would have to become social media influencers:

Sell their own shampoo line, advertise for companies...

The ZDay event and the fun days with the fun people are over now. I am just with @Roma and we will chill, relax, and plan for the future of TROM :). Well, he has to work....unfortunately.... I wish he would not have to.

So everyone left. Well, except one girl who is from Prague and came to the event because of TROM. That was super cool. She, Lenka, is such a nice person and we spent a lot of time together. This week we will for sure meet again. I will still stay in Prague for a week or so.

I will work on the presentation video and I will perhaps make a bigger post about the entire experience. Stay tuned! #tromstuff

It makes me so happy when I see new people donating to our 200 For TROM campaign tromsite.com/donate/ :) - even if we still need a lot more to achieve the goal, I feel hopeful because donating 5 Euros a month is not that much and this can be sustainable for a long long time.

If you use any of our TROM.tf services, or TROMjaro, or VideoNeat, or enjoy the content that we do via TROM and can support us with 5 Euros a month, it would be amazing!

You know we are running out of disk space for TROM.tf so I will have to move Peertube to an object storage solution soon, and that would cost me a few bucks a month and a lot of time perfecting it. So even 2-3 people donating 5 Euros a month can pay for this big change that would also allow us to increase the quota for our TROM Files for instance.

If you can, do it please. If not, at least a share could help ;)

TROM II is now fully translated into Romanian thanks to @Georgi who worked like crazy for the past months to do it.

It is particularly difficult to translate into Romanian because this language comes in 2 main flavors: the official language and the language that people normally speak. And there can be a big difference between the two.

Georgi tried as much as possible to translate in a way that people talk and not in this official robot-like way. She used Kdenlive for the entire translation process.

Huge amount of work!

I had to restore a snapshot of the server to get back to a working Friendica. We almost did it but the loading times for Friendica were terrible. I opened an issue here github.com/friendica/friendica… but I need to wait after my Prague presentation in 2 days time to try and update, else it is pretty stupid to present Friendica when our instance does not work properly :D

Updating the Friendica YNH package was always a huge mess and I should not do it before such an event.

Some data that was created for the past 10h on trom.tf may have been lost. This was something that I had to do. Sorry about that.

Now let's move on ;).

Best way to do a backup for large databases

!Friendica Admins Our database is around 30GB in size and I use the YNH package plus BORG to backup to a remote location. Problem is that midway the database fails to backup because:

2023-08-19 00:35:12,150: WARNING - mysqldump: Error 1412: Table definition has changed, please retry transaction when dumping table inbox-entry at row: 0

Now I put friendica in maintenance before the backup but that means having it unavailable for 30 minutes while the database is being dumped. Is there a better way?

Thanks! :)

The latest FreeTube release is amazing! freetubeapp.io/ - Now all works perfectly fine even with a local API so no need for 3rd party like Invidious. Now you have the option to replace the clickbait titles with community generated titles so that you know wtf a video is about.

You can replace the thumbnails too and also skip all sponsored and BS parts of a video.

If you wanna watch Youtube and stay sane and enjoy it, FreeTube is absolutely amazing. Get to see how a trade-free youtube can look like.

Maybe I want to do an experiment when I will do the Prague presentation. What if we try to stream it to our Peertube via a mobile phone? :) Is there a FOSS app that allows us to directly stream RTMP to @PeerTube ? Anyone knows? Am curious.... #tromstuff

EDIT: Ok I can stream with the awesome Peertube Live app codeberg.org/Schoumi/PeerTubeL… but they need to update it to support the new Peertube API. If they do it in time and I can create permanent lives and with transcoding, we can give it a shot and stream the Prague presentation to our Peertube.

@futureisfoss
I tried out OBS Ninja (now called VDO Ninja) a few years for direct P2P streaming and video conferencing:
vdo.ninja/
youtube.com/watch?v=QaA_6aOP9z…

Basically it just sends video directly from browser to browser, and apparently works to stream from phone too. I remember having to tweak the advanced settings to get the best out of it, but maybe the defaults work better these days:
docs.vdo.ninja/advanced-settin…
github.com/steveseguin/vdo.nin…

in reply to BB

@futureisfoss
This might also be of interest for more advanced uses, but I don't think you should need anything extra to the above just to send a simple stream to Peertube:
github.com/steveseguin/social_…
docs.vdo.ninja/steves-helper-a…
" peertube (triggers on: https://*/plugins/livechat/router/webchat/room/) "
in reply to BB

@futureisfoss
There are also native Android and iOS apps for it, but not sure if they are preferred over the browser version...

While the VDO.Ninja browser-based app version is suggested for most users, this native Android app version has a few key advantages:
- Can stream video while running in the background or with the screen off
- Screen sharing is supported, including the sharing of third-party apps
- Works on certain devices that won't support webRTC via the browser

The @YunoHost package for Friendica has not been updated in many months github.com/YunoHost-Apps/frien… - we are trying to figure out but personally I am lost. If anyone can please help out? I think it is a must to give some love to Friendica and fix the update issue.

If @Michael Vogel @Tobias or @Hypolite Petovan have any time to quickly look why it fails, could be awesome :D - but if you are busy totally understood.

I suspect something changed about the Addons github.com/YunoHost-Apps/frien…

I see 140125 WARNING ERROR 1146 (42S02) at line 1: Table 'friendica.addon' doesn't exist

In any case we must find a way to update the package. I pinged some friends, let's see :D

Soon I will do a presentation in Prague about our TROM project and a good part of the presentation is about the Fediverse and Friendica, so I'd like our instance to be up to date of course, and showcase to people a new social network basically. Any help is also a sort of help to push more people to migrate from FB and the like, to Friendica and the fediverse overall.
