Ok I finished the first part. It is ready to be sent to the ones who took part in this documentary for review. But I won't accept any suggestions except if there are any that are a must, like some subtitles are wrong, or something is incorrect or really bad. Because I don't care anymore :). It is time to move on ;). I can work 5 more years and continue to improve it, I know, but wtf :).
It is 1h 24 minutes long, full HD quality, 2.8GB in size. And I do not know if it is great or not, or confusing at times or boring. Cannot judge anymore. I watched it too many times. At the end of the day, I am not obliged to make this any other way but the way I want to. Whoever likes it, great. Who does not, great. :)
Anyway, I shall start the final editing for part 2, and that's the hardest of them all because I wanna do some more edits there. But since this part was quite fast to edit, maybe it won't take me longer than a week or so to edit the second part. Will see...
I'm using almost all of the 64GB of RAM :D. That's a bit extreme but I am doing a lot. The Kdenlive project for the TROM II documentary eats some 30GB already. But why have them if you don't use them? So I am happy I use my new laptop at full potential like I've always done with all of my computers.

I finished some 40 minutes from TROM II part 1, final editing. I call it final because I am basically checking stuff and improving bits here and there. After that is done I will have to render this part fully to see it all in high quality and make sure all looks good. Hopefully yes, if not there should only be minor things that are easy to fix but were not obvious while editing in Kdenlive.
I've done most of the hard stuff I wanted to fix for this first part so I expect the rest to be done in just a few days.
Feels great to now simply edit for the sake of improving here and there, and not having to think about how to "create", where the documentary goes, what next.... :)
I expect part 2 to be more difficult to edit and fix/improve stuff, since it is also the biggest. Then the last part may need a bit of improvement here and there. Anyway, will see. That's my mission now: the final editing!
I am bringing back our TROMsite.com Live Updates page :) - am excited for that. I wanted to bring it back for some time now. Basically I pull the ATOM feed from our Friendica profiles like mine, @Aaron , @Sasha and so forth, and filter them by a keyword like #tromlive. So you get automated updates from us all.
The problem was that Friendica only provides an ATOM feed while the plugin we use for pulling these feeds and filtering them, only uses RSS. I found granary.io github.com/snarfed/granary and open source converter so let's see how that works.
I am getting our tromsite.com more and more ready for the documentary release. I want to make it active again and TROMlive was one of those things that kept the website breathing.
This is great! 😃
Though I found a small bug - if you click on the profile name that says "Tio", " TROM" or "Aaron" then it just brings me to a page that doesn't exist. Not a big issue, but just letting you know.

I wanted to check today again on that chatgpt. And it is so hilarious and telling about how these statistical software actually work. It started well, then became a complete fuckery. I'd like to share that here.
Here:
Not super bad, but still. So it was better than before.
Now when I asked who is Tio, meaning me, here's what it said:
Oh my jizus-christ! So I am Tio Theodoros Mavridis, I am greek, I created the Zeitgeist Movement and the Zeitgeist Addendum documentary among other things.
This chat is the biggest bullshitter in the world. Can be so confidently wrong. It is astonishing.
This software basically puts words together based on what is statistically more relevant, and many times can create wonderfully written sentences while being full of shit. How can anyone simply trust this bullshitter is beyond me. I can ask it about anything and I would have no clue if it is complete garbage or not.
So, what is this crap useful for except funny poems and lame chitchatting?

Is everyone playing video games nowadays? It seems like that to me. I bet it must be a combination between companies marketing the shit out of these things, plus the loneliness aspect that may humans surfer from in this society. Games are at home, no need to meet anyone physically, easily accessible, fantasy worlds (don't think about the sucky life you may have), etc.
Seems like these play a huge role in the massive adoption of this "practice" recently. A decade ago or two, most people would have laughed at the idea that 20, 30, 40 year olds are playing video games. But now it seems to me like it has become a hobby that most males practice quite passionately. Females too, more and more :).
Look, am not making fun of this, am not even saying it is a bad thing necessarily. But the huge rise in popularity should have some strong connections with the marketing aspect of this industry.
I used to play video games too when I was in school, like 80 years ago, and although I enjoyed it, I kinda felt dead inside after. As if I did nothing.
Anyway, just rambling. I do not play any video game, and although am sure there are many fun ones out there, I much prefer to go out. You know for the past 2 years we have made some octopus friends in a bay 30 min walk from where we live. That's bloody fun! Those creatures are so alien. Plus am so busy with the TROM project overall, I could not even have time to play games. But I am sure they would eat my brain and no more time to be creative, relax, learn about the world, have real life relationships.
That's how I feel. From my perspective video games are mostly a waste of time and humans should look more at the real world and enjoy that. Because the real world is the most fun 3D map of them all. The downside is that we are all kinda trapped in the real game and can't explore much, or have much fun. But if so we should struggle to understand why, and perhaps change this "real" game to make it better for ourselves.

My Octopus Friend
Ever since I watched the film My Octopus Teacher, I’ve been dreaming of meeting an octopus. Then, it finally happened- in a beautiful rocky bay in Northern Spain. An octopus grabbed my foot, then I "befriended" it :)You can read about this story in more detail on my blog: bigworldsmallsasha.com/2021/04…
Big thank you to Dima Bass for making this video!
Only about those who watch movies and read a lot of fictional stuff. But how can I say that video games are mostly a waste of time in my view and not insult anyone? Because for sure I do not want to insult anyone. I don't even understand what that means.
For example I love watching documentaries but I will never feel insulted if anyone would say that watching documentaries is a waste of time in their view. For one it is their view, and second I could argue that they are not a waste of time.
From my perspective video games are mostly a waste of time
I said mostly not all ofc.
I play video games in a way that actually helps others. GamesDoneQuick is an organization that raises money for various causes by holding marathon events for video game speed running.
See that's nice ofc that they raise money. It is sad we have to come up with such events in order to help the poor and the ones that suffer. But yeah, nice of you for doing that.
bono reshared this.
I provide a ton of crated stuff for people to enjoy in their free time and doing so for more than a decade now. Like videoneat.com/ full of hand-picked documentaries, courses, and some movies that are also educational. Or our custom Linux tromjaro.com/ with hundreds of good trade-free apps for anyone to use.
I have created documentaries and videos, and am about to finish yet another documentary the next month.
So of course you can spend a lot of good time in front of a device and get a lot of interesting and fun info(activities out of it.
But most movies and video games are a pile of garbage in my view, especially compared to what reality has to offer. But you see....no one is selling reality....so....people go for whatever is sold more.
The trade-free app of the day:HOME
A Trade-Free operating system based on Manjaro Linux Designed for your brain, but you can install it on a computer. No more ads and trackers consuming you, no ‘free’ trials, noContinue readingHOME
I agree joy is joy, a feeling, regardless how it is created. But we can't ignore the fact that game companies, or hardware ones, and so on, play a huge role in creating these "hobbies" for so many people, simply because they wanna sell more of their thing.
Same with movies and most entertainment.
From what I see and know, most humans spend their free time watching movies, playing video games, scrolling through tiktok and so forth. I consider these as mostly mindless activities that are mainly influenced by a trade-based society where merchants need to sell stuff to you, and thus the game, movie and "social network" industries are to blame for transforming people into zombies who have no clue how mind blowing the reality of our natural world is. Just feed them simplistic content because it is easy to produce.
Oh and I do spend some time on reddit at times....watching stupid videos. I would fully accept the criticism of that haha. It is silly and stupid and should reduce that time I spend there. So I think we should also be more honest with ourselves, and also accept other criticism. Maybe we can change.
I used to watch 2-3 movies every single day. No break. I was obsessed in high-school. I was the "movie guy", everyone was asking me about what movies to watch. I knew them all, and actors, and whatever.
I then kinda realized how it all works, how I like movies because of this system we live under which promotes these things. So I like whatever is cool in our culture. That made me question what movies are in fact. Just another product being sold!? Also I started to realize how amazing reality is: from atoms to galaxies and everything in between. And although I LOVED movies, I forced myself to watch more and more documentaries about our real world. Over the years I started to like documentaries even more and watch less and less movies. And that change the way I think. Immensely.
Now for example I do not watch any movie, only documentaries. And I love them. I feel like I was in a dream and now I woke up compared to how I was when my head was full of fantasy nonsense.
I wish people looked at reality more. It is fascinating. ;)

A lot of them are ad supported, but a lot are not. For example, one popular one that I've played a lot is Doge2048. It's a simple javascript web game with no ads. There is a small link to go to another page to buy NFTs of the doge images, so there is some sort of revenue stream, but it's so small that I think most people would never even notice it. I don't really know what the thinking behind that is.
I mostly deal with retro stuff, and there are a lot of games that are just released as freeware, especially ones which would otherwise get themselves in hot water. For example, there have been recent C64 ports of Super Mario Bros and Sonic - both released strictly as freeware fan projects, to try and avoid the ire of Nintendo and Sega.
Some C64 titles have commercial releases, but the majority of modern retro C64 releases don't. And the nature of the platform isn't really practical for ads or other indirect means of acquiring revenue.
> I used to play video games too when I was in school, like 80 years ago
Damn when did you get so old, haha 😄
So I don't really play any video games myself but I don't mind if others do it, everyone will have their own preferences when it comes to what they enjoy doing and who am I to judge them for it and say my way is better than theirs? 🤷
There are more objective criticisms of this for sure. Like ofc whatever people like, like. This is subjective. What is a lot less subjective is that these video games are aggressively marketed by big companies who mostly want to make more profits, and that will have a strong effect on people, making them want to play video games. Same way Facebook wanna make people stay on their platform.
Also, considering the complexity and mindblowingness of our world, the one discovered through science, it is objectively pity that most humans spend their time being amazed and entertained by simplistic, many times violent entertainment. And this is again because of a huge marketing influence. #TradeRuinsEverything

> What is a lot less subjective is that these video games are aggressively marketed by big companies who mostly want to make more profits, and that will have a strong effect on people, making them want to play video games. Same way Facebook wanna make people stay on their platform.
This is true I agree, but then why not criticize these companies instead of the people who fall victim to their tactics? 🤷 I also wanna point out that what you really meant to say was that "mainstream commercialized gaming" can be deceptive & addictive, but when you use a blanket term like "gaming" while criticizing it you're making a massive generalization of an entire hobby. You know there are open-source games on Linux that are made by people without any commercial interest in mind, and like @Stephanie R Maxwell 🏳️🌈 pointed out some people are using their passion for gaming to help others (which I didn't know before, so that's cool). So I don't think people who play games should be pitied.
Now you may say that 90% of the games out there are commercialized ones, so does that make it okay to generalize them and say gaming is bad? Well if you actually start doing this you'll realize that almost everything is commercialized these days (which is very unfortunate). I mean you could take it a step further and say laptops and all electronic devices are bad, since most people seem to be using them for things like playing games or consuming content. And documentaries are also getting commercialized and made for entertainment, and you can see the influence of this when they try to appeal to the masses - like most nature documentaries fall for anthropomorphism perhaps because they wanna make it more entertaining for common folks who watch it, and its concerning to see more and more documentaries being made about celebrities, murderers, or just plain conspiracy theories without any evidence. I won't be surprised if in the near future most documentaries become like drama shows, its already happening now. So does that mean watching documentaries is bad just because there are a lot of bad ones out there? No! Similarly most songs these days are highly commercialized and of bad quality, but does that mean listening to music is bad and those who do that should be pitied? No! And I've talked to some conservative people who say similar things about science and technological progress, look at how science created nuclear bombs and other deadly weapons they say. And if I'm being honest they're not completely wrong in feeling that way, a lot of countries do spend a fuck ton of money on weapons research for the military (probably more money than what other types of scientific research gets). But despite agreeing with that sentiment I still think its ridiculous to make a generalized statement and say science & technology as a whole is bad. Like everything else its mostly the commercialization of it that makes people focus on the wrong things, there are good use cases for nuclear energy but people made weapons out of it because that's where the money was.
> Also, considering the complexity and mindblowingness of our world, the one discovered through science, it is objectively pity that most humans spend their time being amazed and entertained by simplistic, many times violent entertainment.
Okay, I have a few thoughts on this. Firstly, being interested in entertainment, art, games, etc and being curious about the world we live in (and the science of it) are not mutually exclusive things. Do you think the actual scientists who go out and explore the world don't watch movies at home? Because I'd think that most of them do, and it doesn't make them any less curious about the world 😃 Secondly, I don't think we should pity people just because they're not interested in the same things we are, everyone will have their own personal hobbies and interests which is fine. Humans are a diverse bunch, so while some may be interested in science others may pursue other interests like cooking, programming, music, art, engineering, history, culture, architecture, etc. There are literally thousands of different hobbies and interests out there that are just as complex and fascinating. And lastly, its interesting that you mentioned the glorification of violence and other harmful tropes in our movies & media, this is a real problem IMO that deserves to be criticized publicly. And often times you'll find that these are not just a movie problem, but they're deeply seated ideas in our culture that leaks onto the media we create. So I recently found this youtube channel that does a pretty good job of exposing such harmful ideas in our media - youtube.com/channel/UCHiwtz2tC…
(Note: You may add this one to tromnews.com/videos/ because these video essays are really good IMO)
Taking a look at these harmful tropes in movies and publicly criticizing them like this can be much more effective than just asking people to not watch movies. Why? Because once you become aware of the fact that a certain idea is harmful and properly understand why it is so, then you'll become immune to it in a way, and not just in movies but anywhere you hear it you'll immediately notice the problems with it. And again its important to note that not all movies fall for such tropes, some actually go against it to make a positive social change. So if there's one thing you wanna take away from this post its that we shouldn't generalize too much and criticize an entire whole thing (like movies, games, science, technology, etc) instead of just the actual harmful effects & practices involved in it, because often times there are positives and negatives for everything.

I think I did :).

From my knowledge most of it is like that. If I marginalized a few then that's because most of it is crap probably. If I am unaware of the situation then ok will learn ;). I was also referring at games in general regardless if they are open source or not. I simply consider that to be a waste of time.
like @Stephanie R Maxwell 🏳️🌈 pointed out some people are using their passion for gaming to help others
A smart society would not need such tactics. To livestream gameplays to raise funds. It is a sad and depressing situation honestly.
So does that mean watching documentaries is bad just because there are a lot of bad ones out there?
That's where the context takes care of these things. You take things too surgically and makes no sense to have this sort of "analysis" of an online rant. I post as I talk, I do it differently when I write on the TROM's page or when I write books.
Do you think the actual scientists who go out and explore the world don't watch movies at home? Because I'd think that most of them do, and it doesn't make them any less curious about the world 😃
I do not know what you are referring to here. But yeah most scientists probably are just normal people with jobs. Perhaps the ones that understand more about this world and are curious don't watch much "entertainment".
Secondly, I don't think we should pity people just because they're not interested in the same things we are, everyone will have their own personal hobbies and interests which is fine.
Consuming movies, games, tiktoks, I think has a strong correlation to being stupid overall, to put it simply. Consuming reality makes you more real.
I think you take these rants too seriously and put them under a microscope and interpret them in your own way. This is not helpful.
So: I personally think that playing video games, watching movies, spending time on these popular "social networks" makes humans stupid, zombies. Mostly that is. And there are exceptions to that.
@Tio @Rokosun @Rokosun @Stephanie R Maxwell 🏳️🌈
> I think I did 😀
Okay so as long as you're criticizing it in the context of companies making addictive games with deceptive marketing schemes and not trying to shame people for playing games then I agree with you.
> From my knowledge most of it is like that. If I marginalized a few then that's because most of it is crap probably. If I am unaware of the situation then ok will learn ;)
So people used to write fictional stories and invent games (like physical sports or board games) long before they started commercializing these, and I consider things like movies and video games the next evolution of this as new technology and mediums were developed. So I wouldn't say that games or movies are a result of our trade-based society as they've existed long before that, albeit in different forms. But of course as these started to become more commercialized and merged with the trade world then it started getting progressively shittier. Its very unfortunate that most movies and games released these days are just consumerist BS made to sell more things squeeze money out of us (some games recently added NFTs for example), because I don't think either of these things are inherently bad.
> I was also referring at games in general regardless if they are open source or not. I simply consider that to be a waste of time.
But how can it be a waste of time if people are having fun? I mean, one could argue that having sex is also a waste of time, lol 😄 In fact I think most hobbies people have could be described as a waste of time, but as long as its not negatively impacting their life in a significant way then these things are fine IMO.
> A smart society would not need such tactics. To livestream gameplays to raise funds. It is a sad and depressing situation honestly.
I agree that our society is very fucked up in regards to caring for others, and its unfortunate that people are having to find these weird tactics to deal with it. But still its nice to see some people try to help in whichever way they can 🤷
> That's where the context takes care of these things. You take things too surgically and makes no sense to have this sort of "analysis" of an online rant. I post as I talk, I do it differently when I write on the TROM's page or when I write books.
Okay maybe I just rambled on for too much there, lol 😅 But I wanted to talk about this issue of "massive generalization" since I see this too often in real life as well, so much so that I won't be surprised if 90% of the controversies/arguments in our world could be solved by fixing this one type of miscommunication. That example of saying "science is bad because it creates weapons like nuclear bombs" is one of them, such a stupid generalization of the word "science" IMO, but someone actually said it to me and I corrected them saying its the commercialization of science that's bad not science itself.
> I do not know what you are referring to here. But yeah most scientists probably are just normal people with jobs. Perhaps the ones that understand more about this world and are curious don't watch much "entertainment".
Yeah of course most scientists are normal people with jobs, I don't know if you could be a scientist without that. My point was that most scientists are curious about the world (at least I know ones like carl sagan and neil degrasse tyson are 😃) and they may still watch some entertainment in their free time because these things are not mutually exclusive. Of course they don't spend all their day watching movies 'cause they have other things to do (like most people), but they don't have to be anti-entertainment to have some genuine curiosity about the world.
> Consuming movies, games, tiktoks, I think has a strong correlation to being stupid overall, to put it simply. Consuming reality makes you more real.
Now I don't wanna get too much defensive about movies, games or tiktoks because at its current state right now, I can see why you'd say that and you're not entirely wrong, these things are being made and promoted by corporations whose only aim is to make you addicted to it so they can suck more money from you.
You know how some people stigmatize porn so much? It strikes me as odd that there's a lot of violence in our media these days and yet they draw the line at depictions of intimacy. So I know this is something we've criticized before on TROM, but at the same time I don't wanna get too defensive about porn either because the companies who make them are just like the ones who make these movies or worse, mainstream porn is full of misinformation and sometimes violent in nature. So this is the dilemma here, on one hand I don't think people should be shamed or stigmatized for their preference in entertainment, games, or even porn, but on the other hand I do realize that most of the space have been taken over by companies who want to create consumerist BS to make people addicted. And for things like movies, games, art, etc there can be people who are genuinely passionate about it and consider it as a creative endeavor. So its like a superposition of genuinely creative hobbies and the companies trying to profit off of it by creating consumerist BS content. This is why some people agree with you when you say things like "games are a waste of time" while others don't. In the context of a consumerist society making addictive games to profit off of people, games are a waste of time, but if you get rid of that commercial aspect of it and see it as a hobby & passion for many then its not necessarily a waste of time. And because of using generalized terms like "games" as a whole, its not clear to people in which context you meant, so they make their own interpretations.
> I think you take these rants too seriously and put them under a microscope and interpret them in your own way. This is not helpful.
Poor Tio just wanted to make a small rant about games but Rokosun pulled him into a long discussion about the nuances of art and consumerism, lol 😅
So I notice that I don't post that much on social media and mostly just reply when someone else brings up an interesting topic that I have something to say about, not sure why. But of course I understand that it can be annoying to get long replies like this for a silly rant, sorry 😅
Roma likes this.
But how can it be a waste of time if people are having fun? Because for me it is a waste of time. You cannot accept that apparently haha. For me games are a waste of time as I said in the post and I think too much of that makes people more retarded, same with watching movies. Sex is a pleasurable activity and is different from filling your heads for hours with nonsense stuff. Sure, those who chase sex and spend most of their time chasing new partners, chitchatting for getting into someone's pants, etc., I also consider it a waste of time.
Well you also generalized by saying "the commercialization of science that's bad"....is it all commercialization of science bad? This is too much of a focus on language without taking the context into account. When I say trade is the origin of most problems, do I say 90% of all trade, 67%? all trade? Of course language works like this and we express ourselves like that. For example I loved movies and I watched thousands. I knew what's popular and such. Plus after removing this mindless hobby from my mind I tried to find some educational movies for Videoneat and I only found 10 or so out of hundreds of thousands out there. Based on that I would say watching movies, in general as an activity that most people engage in today, is making people more stupid.
Same with video games.
Sure there are exceptions but if you talk like "90% of all movies are stupid" or "playing 3h a day video games makes you stupid" seems too much for me especially when you rant about something.
My point was that most scientists are curious about the world (at least I know ones like carl sagan and neil degrasse tyson are 😃) and they may still watch some entertainment in their free time because these things are not mutually exclusive.
Look, the reality is very complex and complicated. If you you do not feed your brain with that, but with imaginary and simplistic stories via movies, games whatever, then you are a lot less knowledgeable about the world. Maybe if Tyson watched a little less movies he would look closer at how the movie industry works, then understand how this society works, and maybe he would understand how trade pushes us all to be cunts. Then he may inform others about it. Tyson spends a lot of time talking nonsense about superheroes and went downhill on the movie-path for the past years. He used to be a vocal criticizer of religion and BS, and this society too. He obviously tuned that down. Was it because of movies? How the fuck can we know haha. But the more stupid content you watch the more stupid you are. This applies to me and everyone else.
Poor Tio just wanted to make a small rant about games but Rokosun pulled him into a long discussion about the nuances of art and consumerism, lol 😅
You can drive anyone insane if you analyze every word of their random rants. I do understand that you try to stay on a fence and be wise, but I think that "superposition" of yours is something that cannot last for long. I may have used to be the same, but after 2 decades of seeing the society going from retard to complete retard, I realized it is definitely tilted in one direction. And when I sound more aggressive and generalize in my rants it is also on purpose. Else they won't sound like rants but like boring posts. And because I understand the amazigness of the real world and how that contrasts with these stupid cultural (trade induced) "hobbies" like gaming, watching movies, social media nonsense, I feel like having a more visceral reaction about this idiocracy.
I do not know if you understand, but if you think for a bit about how we are on this round ball, in this vast universe, with trillions of stars and billions of galaxies, how atoms make cells and cells make humans, evolution and all of this picture that humans understood quite recently, and contrast that with dudes and dudes posting tiktok videos and scrolling through that all day, or become "gamers" and play hours of stupid nonsense daily, or watch those invented simplistic human stories via movies and think that's "wow", then you may feel like me: angry, shocked, reactive.
Well as far as rants go I don't have any issue with your post to be honest, you can vent about these things and I get it, although I'm not sure how effective they are at persuading people (but that may not be your intend). And when it comes to movies & games, they're not meant to be educational like documentaries, that's why I compared it with having sex because people sometimes do things that they enjoy and its fine. But of course I agree with you that if someone spends a lot of time with these then it will have an impact on them. And if you don't watch any of these entertainment you'll still have to put some effort into educating yourself, and as long as you're trying to stay educated and keep learning new things then its fine IMO. That's how I see it. And I know I talk about movies a lot but as far as the number of movies I've seen then you've probably seen more of them than me, lol. I mean you had an entire website reviewing movies so it makes sense, I don't watch that many movies and am more picky about the ones I watch 🤷 And games I don't really play any of them except very rarely, so I don't know much about them. I did have a friend in highschool who were into gaming and he was able to build his own PC and install linux on it and stuff (at the time I didn't know much about Linux or FOSS). And well then documentaries are entertaining too, they're still just a variation of film, one that's more educational in nature. And from experience I can say that most people who're into movies will also be interested in documentaries if they try out a few, just 'cause they use very similar mediums.
Ofc I understand people do all sort of things to relax and enjoy, they do not have to always be "educational", or informative. I do them too. Like I watch a bunch of videos that are neither informative or educational, I play cards at times, or customize my Linux desktop. Last night we went into this bar where they were playing instruments and anyone could join, and I played some drums for like an hour my fingers are swollen now and hurt haha. It was fun.
I am not that extreme to think that ALL people who EVER play any video game or watch any movie are stupid. Or do these enjoyable things. Not at all. I think that people who are "into gaming and movies" and such mostly retarded forms of entertainment, are filling up their free time and thus their heads with silly, unreal stuff. And this they become silly and unreal.
I am having a beef with this culture of video games that has exploded over the past 5 or so years. It has become a huge industry of both companies and "players". Championships, ads, promotions, whatnot. And it is similar to the movie-culture. Netflix, Spotify, TikTok, Smart TVs, phones overall, gaming, these are tools that have become the prison walls of people's minds. Pushed mostly by the trade-based practice we see globally.
When I say how crap TikTok is I generalize ofc since most of it is crap. At least for me. Now ofc you can then comment on my rant and say "well there are some good TikTok videos"...well...ok. But the vast majority of it is crap. Same I think about video games, movies, and many other such "hobbies"/activities.

> Last night we went into this bar where they were playing instruments and anyone could join, and I played some drums for like an hour my fingers are swollen now and hurt haha. It was fun.
Man you're having way more fun than I do, lol 😂
> I am not that extreme to think that ALL people who EVER play any video game or watch any movie are stupid. Or do these enjoyable things. Not at all. I think that people who are "into gaming and movies" and such mostly retarded forms of entertainment, are filling up their free time and thus their heads with silly, unreal stuff. And this they become silly and unreal.
Yeah this is what I was trying to say, there's nothing wrong with having some fun as long as it doesn't negatively impact you in any way. This is very natural and we all do it, definitely not a waste of time. Usually I think people will know when they're doing something too much 'cause it'll impact their life, but yeah I do agree that we should keep things under control to not become addicted to any of these or take up too much of our time.
I think you could technically say that I'm "into movies" but it doesn't mean I'm trying to watch every new one that comes out, I prefer quality over quantity so I only watch a few ones that I know are good. The type of movies you watch also plays a big role, since some are better than others. For example on YouTube I always used to watch educational vidoes, so much so that most of my scientific knowledge came from that platform, but then there are people who uses the same platform to watch silly videos all day - so despite us both watching "YouTube videos" the type of content you watch makes a big difference, movies are no different. And then I'm also into analyzing and critiquing movies, the thing about this is that because movies are mostly a reflection of our culture when you criticize movies you're often criticizing our culture and society as well. You can see this clearly in that YouTube channel I mentioned above, the social commentary is really strong in that one it almost feels like you're watching a short documentary. BTW, offtopic but when I was looking through some of the old videos from that channel I found this 14 year old gem of a video -
Not a movie review but it's one of the funniest shit I've ever seen, and the video still feels relevant for today's politics, LMAO 🤣. Its also interesting to note that his videos are basically trade-free because he don't do sponsors or put ads on his videos and instead relies on donations entirely - this is part of the reason why I recommended it for TROMnews.
Yeah everything has become a consumerist BS in our trade-based society, so sad.....
> When I say how crap TikTok is I generalize ofc since most of it is crap. At least for me. Now ofc you can then comment on my rant and say "well there are some good TikTok videos"...well...ok. I defended filmmaking (both movies & documentaries) because its like an entire form of art requiring many different skills, people put a lot of time & effort into creating those and I do see value in it. No one really owns it so anyone can make a film, just like how you made your documentary. But other than the act itself I don't give a fuck about companies like Netflix who are in it just for the money. And AFAIK tiktok is just an app owned by a single company, an app that is made to be very addictive so they can make more money, I don't care much about these. Just to be clear, I don't think "social media" in general is bad, just the trade-based ad platforms like facebook, twitter and instagram are, fediverse is much better IMO and unless you get addicted to it I don't see any issue with it. So I wasn't trying to defend the multi-billion dollar companies that are behind these, all I wanted to say was that we shouldn't make fun of people who fall victim to their traps.
For example, if your goal is to persuade people to use Linux instead of Windows then talking shit about windows is a very bad idea, people might feel like you're making fun of them for using windows so they may get defensive and never change. The better way to persuade them is to just show them all the cool features of Linux that windows don't have and this might make them curious about Linux. I remember luke smith talking about this in a video and he explained it very well - videos.lukesmith.xyz/videos/wa…
So in our context if you want people to watch documentaries instead of movies then saying good things about documentaries are much more effective than talking bad about movies, at least IMO. Another trick is to use humor and funny jokes when criticizing something, this might also help to some extend.
And BTW, thank you for being patient with me and replying to my messages even when they were so long, you have such a calm & thoughtful mind 😇

Movies are still invented stories made by humans. It is mind-blowing to me how people are not more interested in real stuff, since the real stuff is endless and beyond fascinating. But I think I know why.....movies are advertised and we grow up with that, while reality (nature and such) is made to be seen as boring and difficult to grasp mostly I'd say because of school, but so because no one has any interest in selling reality.
For example, if your goal is to persuade people to use Linux instead of Windows then talking shit about windows is a very bad idea
I've heard this before and although it is true to some extent, it is not the full picture. Many people start to use Linux after seeing a lot of others talking shit about MacOS or Windows, or they themselves being pissed off at these operating systems. I know that's what made me switch to Linux.
And BTW, thank you for being patient with me and replying to my messages even when they were so long, you have such a calm & thoughtful mind 😇
Oh dude you do better than I do with this discussion. I am way too distracted by the work I have to do for TROM II right now so am not having too much patience. Thank you for being friendly and wise ;). It is always good to hear different opinions, especially from people who are friendly.
I get your points and this is the motto we've relied upon when doing any TROM content: be nice, be more exact, don't generalize too much, etc.. But for me personally, when I post on my own friendica profile, I want at times to just write something and move on. A rant, like I said in the post.
You know when I was in high-school I consumed a ton of movies, and I would have said the same: I only choose good ones. And I could argue about my decisions. It is not like I was wrong, it was that I did not comprehend the amazing-ness of reality. Took me many years to understand what I was learning about it. And now I see things much more differently. I am in awe about reality and I cannot have the patience to watch invented human stories, like movies, knowing how mind-blowing the reality is. I am excited to share that with others and I will become a lot more vocal, and calm and wise, once TROM II is out. I will try to put reality into a more strong light for others to be amazed like I am. It is a feeling I wish more would experience.

> I wish you were right but I feel like this is not the case 😛. "Impacting life" can mean a slow "dumbing" down of yourself. And that's hard to detect. I saw that happening with many people.
Oh yeah some people desperately need a reality check, lol 😄 But you have to be careful when you lay it out to them, if you belittle or insult them by calling them dumb or whatever then they might take offense and get very defensive, this is the opposite of what you want. If you want to help such people who are in these situations then you should make them feel like you're actually trying to help and not attack them. So its not what you say, but how you say it that matters.
> Movies are still invented stories made by humans. It is mind-blowing to me how people are not more interested in real stuff, since the real stuff is endless and beyond fascinating.
But I am interested in real stuff! 🙂 These days I watch maybe a few movies per month at max, and that's nothing really, I have plenty of time for other things. Actually I would've probably spend more time chatting here with you than I did watching any movies, lol 😄
And you say "invented stories made by humans" as if its a bad thing, but I don't see it that way. Have you ever tried writing a story before? That shit's so hard, lol. You need to be really creative to come up with good stories. And they do have an impact on people and our society, probably more than you think. Stories can really tap into people's emotions and have a long term impact on their lives. And in some ways I feel like documentaries also have a story in them, just 'cause they're both very similar in nature. The only difference is that movies give you a lot more freedom to craft this thing exactly the way you want, and you can even use elements of fantasy to get a point across. I am yet to watch that movie you recommended me "K-pax" but I feel like they make use of fantasy elements for a similar purpose. And remember that spanish anticapitalist movie called "The platform" ? Certainly not the most "entertaining" movie I've seen but it did have an impact on me. I knew about things like poverty and wealth-gap before, but the way that movie portrayed these elements felt like its holding a mirror at our society showing how disgusting it truly is. You say movies make people less interested in reality but after watching that movie I sat there thinking about our society for hours, trying to come up with ways to solve our problems. But at the time I was missing a crucial piece of the puzzle and I only realized that after stumbling upon trade-free.org. Maybe if I haven't seen that movie and spent hours thinking about our world then I wouldn't have been so interested in reading your book, I watched that movie months before but its impact stayed with me.
At the moment I'm looking into watching the movies mentioned in this video -
Especially in these times where people are so divided about everything, movies depicting empathy & solidarity are a welcome change. Ideally this is what movies should be IMO, and its honestly very disappointing to see such movies getting very little attention compared to all the mindless consumerist movies out there.
And these days people's minds are stuck inside things like TikTok, which is way worse IMO. I'm not trying to judge and shame people, but really short videos like the ones seen on tiktok rarely ever have anything of value and I believe most people will agree with that sentiment.
> But I think I know why.....movies are advertised and we grow up with that, while reality (nature and such) is made to be seen as boring and difficult to grasp mostly I'd say because of school, but so because no one has any interest in selling reality.
Yeah its the trade-based society that really kills the curiosity of people, after being forced to go through school and to get a job and all, this will take a toll on people's mental health, the world may not be so fascinating to them anymore. And you're right that there's a lot of consumerist movies out there, the market is almost saturated with such type of movies, mostly remakes and all - a quick money grab for the rich. Actually if you think it about why do movies have to be advertised? If you make something good then people will watch it and recommend others, advertising only makes sense if you're more interested in selling the movie than creating it - which is of course a result of our trade world. Now you're making the TROM II documentary and apart from a small trailer maybe, you don't plan to advertise it in any way - that's how it should be.
> I've heard this before and although it is true to some extent, it is not the full picture. Many people start to use Linux after seeing a lot of others talking shit about MacOS or Windows, or they themselves being pissed off at these operating systems. I know that's what made me switch to Linux.
Actually I first tried out Linux because I learned that windows is not private or secure. And the guy wasn't "shit talking" windows or anything, but I was watching a video about improving my privacy & security and the guy pointed out how windows have been caught spying on their users many times. I don't know if it would've worked on me if he was simply just ranting about windows and trying to push Linux on everyone, maybe it would've because I wasn't really using windows but android most of the time (lol), but for those who do use windows everyday this may sound silly. But what Luke smith did is always 10 times better at persuading people IMO, when you actually see Linux in action and all the cool things you can do with it then you don't need to be convinced by anyone else. I've made posts here on fedi recommending people documentaries and stuff, and this is my aim, instead of hurting anyone's ago by telling them they're stupid for watching movies or anything, I can just show them how awesome documentaries are - a much more effective tactic IMO.
> Oh dude you do better than I do with this discussion. I am way too distracted by the work I have to do for TROM II right now so am not having too much patience. Thank you for being friendly and wise ;). It is always good to hear different opinions, especially from people who are friendly.
I was a bit worried that I might be annoying you at first, but I'm glad you find this discussion helpful. You know how rare it is for people to engage in such lengthy discussions about things they disagree, and while being friendly at the same time? This should be more normalized IMO. TBH if you were talking to me IRL then I'm usually very bad at explaining things, but when writing posts like this I can take my time with it and be more clear.
> I get your points and this is the motto we've relied upon when doing any TROM content: be nice, be more exact, don't generalize too much, etc.. But for me personally, when I post on my own friendica profile, I want at times to just write something and move on. A rant, like I said in the post.
This might be a problem with me and I apologize for that. I feel like maybe I'm not really a social-media person, I've never really been on any other platforms expect fedi so I'm not super familiar with it. The main "social media" I used before was YouTube where I just watched a lot of videos. But the difference is that on social media people can be more "raw" and they tend to write more half-cooked posts, compare that to YouTube where most videos are so well written and edited professionally - the equivalent of that would be reading a book or professional blog. Plus I feel like I have this tendency to be a "perfectionist" which should be curbed down for my own good, remember the time when I didn't want to get TROMjaro out of beta because of my perfectionism? Lol 😂
> You know when I was in high-school I consumed a ton of movies, and I would have said the same: I only choose good ones. And I could argue about my decisions. It is not like I was wrong, it was that I did not comprehend the amazing-ness of reality.
I feel like maybe you were more into movies at the time than me so it may feel like a more profound difference for you when you left that hobby. I might have an interest in movies but I also don't spend too much time on it (and definitely don't have a blog dedicated to reviewing them!), so I see it like a fun activity to do, kinda like how you went to the bar and played drums.
> Took me many years to understand what I was learning about it. And now I see things much more differently. I am in awe about reality and I cannot have the patience to watch invented human stories, like movies, knowing how mind-blowing the reality is. You know for someone like you who's well aware of the deep issues prevalent on our society, I thought you'd be frustrated and depressed by this. But instead you have this genuine child-like curiosity and joy about the world that really surprised me, like you're not ignoring the reality of the world and are trying to fight back against these issues in your own way, but you still have such a positive attitude towards life while doing it. I feel like seeing you like this has helped me fight back against my own depression in a way, that even though the world sucks in many ways you can still find things that can make it worth living. Anyway, maybe in the future I'll become more like you and lose my interest in movies, or maybe not and that's fine too, but I'm definitely inspired by this attitude of yours.
If you want to help such people who are in these situations then you should make them feel like you're actually trying to help and not attack them. So
When I rant the last thing I think about is that. That's why it is called a rant, it is to help me actually, let my frustration out. Otherwise ofc I agree and I've been having this attitude with the TROM project overall.
You say movies make people less interested in reality
If you continue to feed your brain with more reality you may understand what I mean. The fact that people need some fantasy stories to understand some things about the real world, is a handicap created by the movie-culture, or before the book-culture. And overall pushed by trade which incentivizes fantasy over the very-hard-to-create non-fictional stories which require a lot of research. Writing fantasy stories does not seem harder than writing factual stories in my view.
instead of hurting anyone's ago by telling them they're stupid for watching movies or anything, I can just show them how awesome documentaries are - a much more effective tactic IMO.
You should do that. But let's talk in 10 years from now and see how well you can keep your shit together :) because I was mostly like that for a decade or more. But now from time to time I can't handle the stupidity. You are quite new to this world, and I am quite sure this is why you may not understand why such rants are good, not only for me, but for others too who feel the same. I get your theory, but the practice is imperfect. I try to also be more like the theory and in general I am, but from time to time I am ok with ranting and calling people stupid.
I appreciate you, you know that. I like your attitude and how friendly and down to earth you are. You make me more gentle when you "criticize" me in this brotherly fashion. I get your point, and it is good for you to have that attitude, and I am trying to be more calm and less rantzy. But at times it helps me to vent. If you look at the stuff I've created over the years it is either very positive (tromjaro, videoneat, tromnews, TFD) or is always geared towards positiveness since even the books I write always try to provide a positive outcome, some alternative solutions towards the end. TROM II is following suite. So I am generally nice towards everyone, but there are things that over the years made me more and more annoyed, mostly because I feel like people are distracted with silly things while we live in a mind blowing reality that it is criminally ignored.
@Tio @Rokosun @Stephanie R Maxwell 🏳️🌈
Sometimes people rant to influence others and sometimes they do it to just vent their frustration. And honestly I didn't know what was your intention behind the original post, but if you were just trying to just vent then I agree there's no point in me analysing or being critical about it, I just didn't know. And like I told you I was kinda new to the whole social-media thing, and its surprising to see how often people just rant here (lol), maybe its just a bias 'cause you only hear the loudest ones but still its more than I expected. TBH as far as online rants go, you're much more calm and collected then others I've seen here, its just that you're the only one I'm comfortable speaking about it 'cause you're very down to earth and open minded, plus we have a bond of course so you don't get offended by me like that. Another reason maybe I'm giving you extra scrutiny than others is probably 'cause I'm involved with TROM and all, and it still perplexes me to this day that I can't figure out why TROM is so underrated, lol 😄 Sometimes I wonder if its because people get offended by these "rants", but maybe I'm just projecting and my brain is just trying to create meaning where there isn't any. No one knows why TROM is so underrated - perhaps this will remain one of the unsolved mysteries of the universe, haha 😂 Also remember the conversation between me and Roma on our matrix room? Maybe I'm just trying to go deeper into this mystery to understand which areas of TROM people get confused about (we need more data here! 😛), and of course you can use the points we talked about there to write a new FAQ or whatever, the compass-map analogy is something I came up with to clear people's doubts but I wasn't confident enough to write it publicly so I shared on our chat instead (this might also be partly because of my perfectionism, or just simply lazy to write a big post, lol).
BTW, I wonder if these rants would be better done as a video maybe? I've seen people like Luke smith rant about a lot of stuff on camera, but I don't know if everyone can do it.
My personal social profile is separated from TROM for this reason, so that I can post whatever I want on my profile, while TROM is for more thoughtful posts. I want to be able to live a life where I can say whatever I want and don't give a fuck about what people think and such. I don't care if I put off some people, because I do this via my personal account. I do want to be more exact, calm, and reasonable via the official TROM "outlets".
I've used my website to rant about things since 2005. Helped to not basically kill myself since I was so angry about this society I tried to do that in highschool. So it does help a lot. That's not to say I rant nonsense. I'll stand behind my rants. It is just the way that I express myself while I rant, that may put people off or look too generalized.
In any case, I did not expect this huge conversation because of this post haha. Stay wise and calm! ;)

Yeah good point, I don't want you to self-sensor yourself just 'cause you have this project TROM, you should keep being you because that's genuine. And BTW I also do rant sometimes, if I start to post more often here then you may see more of it. Lastly, sorry for dragging this conversation along for too long, I just had some things in my head that I wanted to put out there and this seemed like a good chance to do that, it'd be weird if I came to you and randomly started a conversation about movies or ranting, lol 😄

I don't disagree, but it's a fun exercise to replace "video games" in your post with say computers, television, books, a solo card game or jigsaw puzzles etc. and see how much it changes the argument XD
Love the octopus!😍
Computers, TV, books are neutral tools - it depends what you consume via these. Video Games are tilted one sided form my knowledge. Look we wrote a book for TROM about The For Profit Entertainment - tromsite.com/books/#flipbook-d… - and when we showcased educational games it was really really really difficult to find any. Most games seem to be violent/retarded to be honest.
It is a similar situation for books and tv. We showcase that too. But a lot less than for video games. A lot less.
The issue is when that's one of your main activities, to consume retarded content. That will make you stupid. That's the point here. And how the "gaming" became a "thing" I'd say mostly because of the reasons I listed in the original post.

Well I really struggled with that. It is very hard to do the audio and I am by no mean someone who has experience with that. I did what I could but do not think that this is a professionally made documentary haha. It is a documentary made in my room by myself haha.
As for @Sasha and @Roma don't fully trust them they are biased :D. They both like me and I like them back. So we say god things about each other haha.
No but really I want people to have low expectations of this documentary so maybe they get a nice surprise rather than the opposite.

That makes sense, I'll take into account that this is made by one single person and keep my expectations low, plus I'm pretty sure what you're gonna say in this documentary since I'm already familiar with these ideas, so its about how others see and understand these concepts. But still I find it fascinating that you were even able to make such a massive documentary using simple FOSS programs like kdenlive, and unlike the first TROM documentary this one has you all in front of the camera 😃 So maybe I'll learn a bit more about y'all by watching this 🙂

I wonder if this AI (statistical software) hype is just like the 3D videos, or the blockchain, or the VR glasses, and so forth. I mean I am thinking what can they be useful for. Even if these AI can produce a lot of cool images and text, I mean what is it useful for? Cheating on your exams? Sure. Creating more spam-bot content to fill up websites quickly? Sure. For fun for a few days to generate random shit? Sure.
What else?
Maybe the only two useful things would be:
- Coding and technical answers. So things that you can check. I tried using AI to help me push commits to the AUR, and was mostly helpful. Providing command line tips and all that. But since it is at times inaccurate you can also mess things up. On top of this if you use them to create pieces of code can be decent from my tests, but still primitive in many regards.
- Quick unimportant answers. Like recipes, or whatever else you may need that does no have to be that factual.
Nothing near the hype that's happening right now. I can't see myself using these statistical software bots unless for coding purposes, rarely.
It enables us to create pretty cool shit actually. I haven’t decide whether to go full on into it or not myself. I do think it’s the future just like internet was. Those who thought it’s just a fad, missed out on one of the biggest revolutions in communication. So in a way i think if one does not embrace it, will sooner or later become irrelevant in IT space as things will start moving fast now. Kinda like our parents loosing grip on back then new stuff and becoming, well, old .
As for usage of current AI stuff. For example in gaming, AI could be creating in realtime dialog lines. Worlds could dynamically change depending on your actions in the game thanks to realtime analyzing and adjusting the story/world. For general use, from coding, designing, writing, you could use AI to create things for you by just talking to it and describing what you need. We are currently at the early stages of things. So surely current AI’s can’t create complex code etc and are prone to failure but things are improving really fast. It does not mean you woldn’t need specialists anymore, but such tool in hand of a specialist could allow him to be fast, more accurate and generally better at their craft and for avarage folk, it will allow them to materialize their ideas/thoughts without prior skills needed to be acquired.
I do get that, but you can be easily tricked. I got plenty of wrong answers and outdated about how to do this or that. And the only reason I realized that was either because I tried and it was wrong, or I knew about that particular thing so I could tell it was wrong. Unreliable from my and so many others' tests.
Also don't forget that these bots will allow people to quickly create "original" content, which means those SEO vampires will create even more shitty websites/content and much faster. I know people whose entire job is just that. And then in the future these bots will feed from their own vomit :D. A positive feedback loop.
These are mostly projections at this stage. These AI's currently do very well in terms of composing text. And some experimental work with videos and images. Cool stuff, but useful not very much. Since they can be confidently wrong at times, makes them unreliable in regards to factual information. I cannot see this as the invention of the Internet. The Internet was a way for computers, thus humans, to connect with each other and express themselves. Create new shit. Tho it transformed into a massive marketplace over the years.
AI requires a lot of resources and data, to produce nothing of true original value. By that I mean sure, an AI can create some cool poems, and images, but since they are AI generated the more you create and the easier, the less their value. Would you read a book that was created with such a piece of software? I personally would never.
I can see some uses when this type of software acts like a translator, not of words, but actions. Such as maybe I know how to design websites but not to code them, so it can code a simple one for me. Even there it will become a mess the more you rely on such systems.
Use in games, idk, maybe that could be feasible. I don't see that as useful personally. This still looks to me like more hype than revolutionary. Will see....
You could say the same thing about early internet too. This is why so many thought it was just a fa. It couldnt do much, was unreliable and slow and people said it will never have global coverage. At that time you could also say its all projections. The thing is seeing potential of technology and what it can bring in terms of improvement.
Eg. Ubisoft is already working on implementing AI for dialog creation. So instead of few lines or repeatable text from NPC's you could have proper discussions. Add to it AI generating voice and facial expressions (already exists) and you can have discuission ingame with any character you meet on your way.
I dont think the idea of AI is that it will write books or make music and we will all love it. It's not what it's meant to be IMO. It's another tool for us to make use to make cooler shit.
I do see some uses like you explained. However we have to be patiently skeptical about these things. I am only 30 something years old and even I felt like I experienced 10 big "revolutionizing" tech in my life. 3D content was supposes to revolutionize the consumption of media, education, even engineering or other jobs. 3D printing will revolutionize the manufacturing as we know it, will print food, clothes, cars, you name it. Blockchain will be used in most industries, VR glasses will create an entirely different Internet, self driving cars are about to take over in 10 years (they said 10 years ago), and IBM Watson was a Jeopardy master and was about to detect cancer better than humans and revolutionize every industry...
Where are all of these now? I felt for many of these, I wrote books about these, and I feel tricked about them now. There is some value in all of them, and usefulness, but the hype created by the companies selling them, does not match the reality at all.
Time will tell with these AI's. My feeling now is that they are yet another hype, and will be only useful in certain narrow domains.
Where are they? Some of those you mentioned were nothing but a hype indeed and it was quite abvious from day one. but didnt 3d printing revolutionize manufacturing?
Sure it did. Maybe not what mainstream media was promising riding a hype train but I assure you prototyping has never been easier, faster and cheaper.
VR glasses also are quite widely used but not for casual everyday use. It's technology that needs still lots of work but it does make significant impact in engineering na dproduct design.
Self driving Musk promise I put together with 3d movie hype. But all others are pretty much relevant and shaping your world too. Same as AI. If you expect AI to do your laundry, write a book and compose music like what media tries to sell not understanding what AI is, then surely you are right. AI will however be implemented in about everyday use for universe of things. As end user you might not even realize it as it won't be front facing but the potential for technology is huge and it will have significant impact in few years. We are just scratching the surface here.
For me the question is whether to jump on the train while you still can to:
1. Stay relevant.
2. Participate in the shaping of new reality and try to prevent the evils of the world to ruin it by co-creating it. To prevent situation where we play never ending chasing game (like with big tech social media race).
Or to slowly get familiar with the fact world has gone off, and you decided to skip the train. This means staying with outdated tech and having fun with it, not really being interested in the current stuff. This is what happened to our parents and their parents and I think we are witnessing this for our generation too.
Where do I stand, I dont know yet myself, but I can't ignore the fact this is quite a breakthrough technology that will drive the change for years to come.
? Some of those you mentioned were nothing but a hype indeed and it was quite abvious from day one.
Well they were hyped for years and in a credible manner I'd say. Like IBM Watson and such. Regardless my point was that compared to what most media projected about these tech, the reality of how they ended up is very very different. And I suspect the same with these pieces of software that are neither artificial or intelligent, nor that we know what intelligence means.
They are very hyped-up by the companies that sell them, which is normal. For me the way to deal with this influx of information is to learn how they work to be able to appreciate them. And from my readings and courses that I took, they are less impressive than the hype around them. They are regurgitating data statistical pieces of software. Apply filters to them, set goals, rinse and repeat, and you will get some interesting results. The way chatgpt works, from my understanding, is based on what word statistically goes with what other. So it is good at creating sentences that make sense, despite them being incorrect at times.
So yea, in order for us to have any views about this "AI" is to learn how it works. Plus, it is not "a thing" it is many things, many of which we even use today, from text prediction to the normal searches that take into account your history, and so forth.
I dunno about AI generated text/code, but AI generated images could be useful for some things that come to my mind.
In particular, I'm thinking of tabletop style role playing games where a Game Master can quickly whip up some background art for a room or other setting. The AI could offer, say, a dozen images and if none of them are satisfactory it's no big deal - just fall back onto the normal role playing technique of no artwork.
There are ethical issues of the raw input data set, but I see this as solvable in a straightforward way - limit input data to public domain images (older art and various public domain photos etc).
Two TROM tools have been deleted: our TROM quiz that was based on outdated knowledge and a very outdated plugin, and our TROM "social" (social.tromsite.com) that contained a lot of "memes" - images containing snippets from our books. These too were outdated in many ways and we do not want to "play the social network game" by regurgitating the same "memes" and resharing them on our networks. We need new content that is more relevant. These two tools, although we put a ton of effort into making them, were outdated. We will do more cleaning for the website in preparation for the new TROM II documentary.
TROM will become more active after the release of the documentary.
Here's a short documentary by AlJazeera about Julian Assange ytb.trom.tf/watch?v=76In01TZyj…
It is astonishing that we have a human who publishes materials (not obtained by him, but sent to him) via a public source like Wikileaks, materials that expose the murders and extreme abuse by a tribe, and the tribe is like "Yeah fuck off you criminal let's fuck you up for making these documents public!".
USA is probably the biggest worldwide abuser and killer overall. Yet they want to paint themselves as saints and saviors. And by "they" I mean the few who run that tribe.
Disgusting world.

These days we worked a lot on Sasha's book cover. Today I worked 5h nonstop in Kirta, the program we use to design it. The image we work with, the project, is double the size of a 4k photo....because we need it for printing. So a bit demanding on my laptop. 15GB of RAM was Krita eating :D. But I have 64GB haha. Anyway I only worked on the laptop's battery, so I am happy it lasted me 5h of continuous work. I still have 13% battery left. I love that I can take the laptop in bed and work on stuff whenever I want :). This is something I was never able to do since my previous 2 laptops had a very shitty battery. Maybe 2h of use max.
This week I'll get back to work on TROM II to finish editing all of the parts and release. Let's see how it goes.....
Our Invidious instance won't show up the popular/trending stupidities anymore, but a simple page:
Let's not make ourselves dumber and dumber :D.It is up to you what you search for, but we do not want to promote the youtube garbage collection.

The unfortunate reality: 9 out of 10 Friendica registration attempts are spam/bots, and almost 10 out of 10 for our Peertube instance. Who can I blame? Our trade based society that incentivizes us all to trade trade trade. Forced and incentivized to sell shit non stop. We can't stop these with anti-spam tools, or asking people to be nice.... This society breeds more of these creatures.
We have an aggressive anti-spam tool for our Peertube. Yet daily we get spambos registering. We have a manual approval system for Friendica, yet it gets overwhelming if I, one admin, need to figure which ones are spambos, which ones are not.
The reason I scream about this trade-based society on a daily basis, is because it breeds most of these bad behaviors we see: from spambots to polluters, awful content to badly made products, waste to corruption....you name it.
So those that are angry about spambots need to understand that they originate from the same core issue as most of our problems in today's society. TRADE!
Another update about the laptop I bought tiotrom.com/2023/01/why-i-am-k… - basically some nasty issues with the touchpad, but are not that hard to fix. Bloody Dell and their touchpads.
NEW BLOG POST:Why I am keeping this laptop?
Read it on my website (recommended):
tiotrom.com/2023/01/why-i-am-k…
Or read it here:
This is it:
I needed a new laptop to get rid of my old one that was not portable. I made 3 posts already about this journey: 1, 2, 3 – so I will try not to repeat myself. My mission: get a sturdy and powerful laptop that can last me for a decade. Upgradable and fixable in a reasonable manner. Big screen, yet portable. Do it!
After months of searching and thanks to Roma and Guil primarily, who donated 98% of the money for the laptop, I settled for the Dell Inspiron 7620 2-in-1 16 inches. It has a core i7-1260p – 12 cores 16 threads. An Nvidia MX550, 64GB of RAM and 4TB NVME. 4k screen, 16:10 aspect ratio.
I will tell you why I chose this one.
First let me tell you the negative parts of this laptop, since none can be perfect for me I guess. Then I’ll tell you why overall it is a great laptop for me.
What I don’t quite like.
The keyboard. You see I write a lot and I want a great keyboard. This one is too shallow. I miss the depth of the previous keyboard….but I guess I’ll get used to it eventually. The keyboard is also in German….since I bought the laptop from germany, ebay, second hand but unused. Basically brand new.
The Y and Z are switched but I chose a QWERTY layout in TROMjaro so despite showing differently, the letters are in a QWERTY format. I will try to also manually switch them but I am affraid not to break them.I also kinda don’t like the arrow keys…
The up and down arrows are too tiny. This is a bad design on any keyboard. To add salt to the injury… this layer:
It is a layer of some sort of plastic/glass on top of the metal chassis, that is great for the touchpad but the edges are a bit sharp so when I type my arms get cut a bit in these edges….that happens when I sit on my desk. Like 99% of the time….SO the typing experience is not that great. Not awful, and I will get used to it, but yeah….that’s the biggest downside so far.
Another slight discomfort: opening the laptop to upgrade was a scary experience. You have a few screws but once you start unscrewing them the top part of the bottom case starts to violently try to get out, and things are bendy and make noises. Maybe the captive screws on that side should not be fully unscrewed but loosen and then try to open the case little by little.
Like all laptops (almost) the bottom detachable case has plastic bits inside that clip into the laptop, and these are always sketchy…so I even broke 2 while opening it. Was not a great experience but I guess next time it will be easy. Luckily the entire laptop is made out of aluminium so even without these plastic things everything can close pretty tight. It can be loud and it is a bit heavy. Having a dedicated GPU the fans will be pretty loud when you do intensive tasks, but probably that’s quite normal… Also it is heavy for a “tablet” and quite huge. So this is not really comfortable to use it like that. On the desk is properly fine.
Software-related issues.
Since this laptop is quite new, not even a year old, the hardware is not flawless with Linux. The worst of them all: the speakers will stop working after a few minutes of use. You have to restart pulseaudio for them to work again for a bit. Then they stop again. This seems to be a bug that was reported and should be fixed with newer releases of the kernel. I can easily put up with that since I never use the laptop’s speakers – I have external ones – but for most people this would be a reason not to use Linux on this laptop.
The Hibernate mode kills your laptop. I found out the hard way. I had to fix some bad sectors on the drive because it was not booting up anymore. Probably another issue that will be fixed in the near future, but for now no Hibernate mode. Suspend works ok tho.
If I turn the screen brightness down completely, from the keyboard, I cannot bring it up again. I have to shut down the laptop from the power button….that sucks.
The face recognition camera does not have any real support in Linux so that’s not usable….this is the case for all laptops as far as I know.
Closing the lid won’t respect the XFCE settings I setup for it, so it won’t turn off the screen, or lock, or else.
Basically, with Linux, this laptop is not easily portable. You can’t use the speakers, you can’t hibernate it, you can’t even close the lid to have it turn off the screen….
So, you may wonder, why did I keep this laptop if it has these issues?
First of all the software related issues will be fixed and they won’t bother me much at all. Pretty much every laptop I had to install Linux on, had some sort of issues like that. It is normal when you create an operating system for ALL laptops out there.
Second, the hardware-related issues are not that bad. I am getting used to the keyboard and I won’t have to open up the laptop that often anyway.
So, then, the good parts.
The build quality is great.
This is all metal. Slimbook for example felt flimsy, this one feels really sturdy. I can kill a human and a dog with this laptop and I am sure it will still work 😀. The hinges, metal, feel like they will last me a lifetime. It barely bends, no cracks, and feels really solid overall…It is also super slim and of course bendable 360 degrees:
Look how great that looks. So thin, so portable. This is a lot more slim-book than the Slimbook one 😀. And the charger is also tiny compared to the Slimbook or my previous laptop:The touchscreen is also a plus since I can test TROMjaro directly on my own machine.
Speaking of the screen, the screen is AMAZING. The blacks are so black that if I were to select a 16:9 instead of 16:10 resolution I can’t even tell since the black borders are as black as the screen’s chassis. The colors are vibrant and it looks amazing from all angles.
Also…am I crazy or 3-4k resolution is no different from Full HD!? I tested with this laptop and there is 0 difference in how it looks. That’s good since I can use the FullHD resolution and this improves the battery life. From my initial tests it can last some 5-6 hours on wifi doing things. Others have tested this and it can last some 20h if you are not connected to the internet and just watch local media.
When the speakers work they are very loud and sound great, despite only using 2 of them out of 4 in Linux…..when they will all work this laptop will sound amazing am sure.
The touchpad is great. Smooth, HUGE, and looks neat.
The glassy surface that cuts my arms while typing feels great when using the touchpad 😁Speaking of looking neat, there is only 1 logo on the back.
And that’s not even that visible. I like that. The port selection is perfect. On the left side you get an HDMI, normal USB, and two USB C / Thunderbolt – meaning they support any sort of connection basically.
On the right side you get another normal USB port, an audio jack, and a full SD size card reader.
So you can be sure that this laptop can connect to anything. For example the way I set it up now that I have to work on TROM II and need a bunch of external stuff, I use a USB-C dock. It connects to the laptop into one of the USB C ports. One cable, mind you. This dock has the following connected to it: 3 HDDs totaling 14TB of data + my headphones + speakers + external microphone + mouse + external display + projector + 1GB Ethernet + power charging so that it also charges the laptop + webcam.
This is so amazing. It means I can quickly unplug one single cable and take the laptop. Then plug it in and all of those are connected. The webcam is also better than your average laptop camera, like for example many times better than Slimbook’s. The built-in microphone I’ve heard is also very good but I have not tested it yet. The webcam also has a physical shutter so you can block it.
THE INSIDES!
I think this is the only laptop-convertible in the world that’s 16inches and has a 16:10 aspect ratio, is so slim yet all metal build, but allows you to replace the RAM and has 2 slots for it. This was a must for me. It was advertised as 32GB max, but I easily added 64GB of RAM. DDR4. And I upgraded the NVME M2 to 4TB.To compare it now with the Slimbook Executive 16, that one costs 1.750 Euros with 16GB of RAM and 512GB SSD. Sure, the CPU is a bit better and the GPU much better (useful only if you play video games which I do not). This laptop, the Inspiron 7620 costed me 1.100 Euros and with 64GB of RAM + 4TB SSD around 1.700 Euros. MUCH MUCH MUCH better in all regards than the Slimbook offer.
Lastly the power button it is also a fingerprint reader:
And I managed to make it work in TROMjaro – wasn’t that difficult. How amazing that now I can unlock the computer with the fingerprint and works perfectly fine. Or when I install new packages….FINGERPRINT! NO more typing my very long admin password 😀.OVERALL.
For 1.700 Euros I got a great laptop. It has a big and amazing screen, great port selection, fantastic build quality, great touchpad, good webcam and mic, ok upgradability and repairability, great CPU and good GPU. Touchscreen, bendable 360 degrees, consumes less energy than the Slimbook, small power charger (USB C), great price overall. In time I’ll get used to the keyboard too and the software related issues will be fixed.
Ok ok, a very long post…..but to me this machine is important since it allows me to do the so many projects I am doing. It is an extension to my brain. So it matters to me.
Now I plan to give my old laptop to a dear TROM friend who has helped the project a lot for the past year or two. If I manage to send it to the other side of the globe somehow to not break our pockets. I want to give my older stuff to others who can use it for longer.
I will try to get “laptops” out of my head and in a week or so to focus again on TROM II. I spent a lot of time searching for a good laptop and I feel like I have finally found it. It is time to move on 😀
UPDATE
I wanted to post an update about the laptop now that I’ve used it for a bit.I got used with the keyboard. Of course this was meant to happen. I still think is not the greatest keyboard I’ve used but it is ok. You don’t think about it after some time. I also managed to physically switch the Y and Z keys without breaking them 😀
Now everything seems more “natural” in terms of typing. However the trackpad makes some rattling sounds when I use the laptop in bed. Almost like it is a tiny bit loose. I may try to fix that another time.
Build quality is not as great as I thought.
I opened the laptop today to properly look inside. I have to say it was easier to open than before, as I was expecting, but still not a great experience. The worst is what I discovered…I realized that yes the laptop is a metal built BUT inside where the hardware is, there is a plastic mesh/backbone where everything is held into place…which means the screws are screwed into the plastic, and so are the hinges. Watch this video to see my disappointment:
videos.trom.tf/videos/embed/45…
I was and still am very disappointed. I did not realize that the first time I have opened it. Thing is even if I did, I cannot find a better laptop overall. From the screen size, to the ports, outside chassis, specs….cannot….so it is what it is. But it is deceiving and stupid to make a metal chassis but not have the components screwed into it. Now I will have to be extra careful with this laptop to not break the plastic….my worst nightmare. I have used it today all day while sitting in bed and felt very sturdy and all that. So I hope it will be ok and last me for a long time. And if not I can later on sell it and hopefully Framework can make some 16inch ones so I can grab one of those.
Don’t get me wrong, the laptop feels very well built, but now that I know how it is screwed inside, I will be more careful with it.
It is many times better than my previous laptop so….that’s great.
Software issues?
Almost no more software issues. Everything was fixed with the new 6.1 kernel and with the 6.2 one the 2 speakers out of 4 that do not work now, will also work. So yeah, as I was predicting, in Linux is not a big deal if some hardware does not work ok. It will in the near future especially when we talk about a newly released laptop.
I LOVE the fingerprint reader. Install/remove packages, unlock the computer, are done in a split of a second now. The fingerprint reader works like a charm and I will add a package for it for the next release of TROMjaro and a tutorial about how you can enable it.
The rest?
The screen is wonderful. FullHD or 4k look the same so I use it in FullHD. The laptop is fast, allowing me to compile a new TROMjaro ISO in some 15 minutes compared to 50 minutes before. The mic and camera are good. The speakers very good and I could only test it with 2 out of 4. The battery is ok…nothing special about it.
I made a shitty quality video about it today to show the laptop a bit and the fingerprint reader 🙂 – I am lazy to record it properly but here you go:
videos.trom.tf/videos/embed/57…
Overall.
I cannot find a better laptop for my needs now. This one is indeed great. Even if the insides are plastic….it is ok (at least I hope so). Having this portable laptop is fantastic and 64GB of RAM + 4TB NVME are heaven for me haha.
I should leave this behind and work on TROM II, to finish it in 2-3 months. 😉
LAST AND SMALL UPDATE:
Today I got another kernel update and all speakers work. 4 speakers. They sound great for a laptop. Very loud, very clear. Very happy about that. Also, am less and less disappointed about that plastic inside. The laptop feels sturdy so I hope all will be ok.
Touchpad issues update
After 2 months of use there are 2 issues with the touchpad. Mind you I rarely use the touchpad so perhaps these are much bigger issues for most people than they are for me. But there is a fix for them. The noises, the rattles.
From the beginning I noticed that when I use the touchpad it made a sound when I tapped it to click. As if it is not screwed well into place. And after a while it gets annoying and more noisy. Basically the touchpad is a bit lose. To fix this I had to add some paper tape and some sticky foam pads. Here is the video:
videos.trom.tf/videos/embed/82…
As you can see this requires a little bit of effort since you have to test and see what works best for you. The other issue is that if you fix it you may make it too stiff and if you are used to push-to-click instead of tap-to-click it may become annoying. Mine is a bit too stiff but I much rather prefer that. I never push-to-click on the touchpad. Tapping is much easier for me.
The electrons are mad.
One HUGE issue with this trackpad is something I’ve read about before buying it but I did not think it would happen to me. Basically the mouse pointer would jump chaotically on the screen when you used the touchpad, or click, it was a mess. There are many forum posts about it and this is the main reason people return these Dell 7 thousand series back. I finally found this forum thread where people discovered that there is an issue with the grounding and static electricity building up. So basically a hardware issue. Funny enough if you were to create a friction between your palm and the touchpad for a few seconds, it would work again.
The real solution is to create a better connection between two pieces of metal on the touchpad. And so I did:
videos.trom.tf/videos/embed/37…
I hope it will work from now on, if not I’ll try to connect those bits better.
Yeah for such an expensive laptop you expect better. But I am happy that these are the only issues I experienced so far and are quite easy to fix. Overall the battery is very good, the build quality is great, the speakers are ok, the keyboard is fine, the port selection is bloody useful, and the screen is AMAZING. I love it.
It is powerful enough for me for the many years o come, it is portable, and overall I love it.
That’s all I hope.
Touchpad update
The electric tape solution didn’t work at all. In a day or two it went back to how it was. Since then it became worse and worse. The trackpad/touchpad was unusable. I then decided to go for the soldering. I really didn’t want to do that to my laptop but I did it. For details see this forum post. I did a really bad job at soldering because I was tired and the bits I was soldering to on the trackpad were so tiny. I did that some 3-4 days ago and since then the trackpad works like a charm. I still can’t believe it. This really stressed me out and made this laptop unusable as a laptop really, unless you always have a mouse with you.Anyway, so far it works perfectly fine and I really hope this did it. It is the solution that everyone recommends.
The laptop itself is great. Very well built, amazing screen, very good speakers, powerful and all of that, so I would not know what else to buy if it wasn’t for this one, so I am beyond happy if this issue is finally solved….
As for the rattling I realized that the simplest solution is to put a paper tape between those two little metal things and the laptop’s chassis. So that when they touch they make a lot less noise.
So bellow those as you see in the photo, I added one piece of tape. Now all is fine.So right now the laptop is well and dandy. I love it overall considering the alternatives. I really hope this is the last update.
Inspiron 16 7610 Touchpad, running list | DELL Technologies
Hi all, As many of us are facing issues with the Inspiron 7610 touchpad, I have noticed that Dell has not taken a position on this and refuses to do anything besides forcing you to send in the lapt...DELL Technologies
Why I hate smartphones.
My mother has a Samsung Galaxy J5 that she bought several years ago. The phone is in great condition physically. However it only has 16GB of internal storage. Problem is she uses 99% of that space, making the device extremely slow and 0 updates possible or the ability to install any new app.
Only 10 apps out of perhaps hundreds on her phone can be removed, since the rest came pre-installed with the phone. Bloatware. Google + Samsung apps that are 100% useless. And they cannot be removed.
So, we cannot uninstall/remove anything. Now what can she do? Buy a new phone probably.
And this is how you create a massive amount of waste. On these phones you have no control over your OS, so if your phone is a few years old you can say bye bye to system updates. You cannot remove the bloatware. You cannot change the battery or any other components. And yes probably you can do some of those if you have a ton of time and skills to install a custom Android and have the guts to unglue your phone and change the battery. But most people will never do this.
I tried to make the SD card of her phone part of the system to expand the storage. Worked. But then what for if I cannot move 99% of apps there? I then enabled the developer mode and enabled the "force move the apps to the SD card". That allowed me to move a bit more apps but still 80% cannot be moved.
However when these moved apps update, they are reinstalled on the internal storage again. Basically 'd have to move them to the SD card all the time....sucks. Not sustainable...
I eventually managed to install adbmanager and luckily that allowed me to remove any bloatware I wanted.
Problem is you have to know the exact name of these apps and they look like "samsung.android.visioncloudagent" so you have to figure which app does what.... I found some websites where they list this bloatware like this or this. But it takes time to remove because you have to be VERY careful not to brick your phone.
After doing all of these she has some 1.7GB of free space. Which is fine for now but still unsustainable. I wonder if the next Android update will add back all of that bloatware....after all when I got some updates years ago Samsung decided to install Facebook and Instagram for me, without the ability to remove them.
So, her laptop uses Linux and not Windows, despite having Windows pre-installed when we bought it. Why not install a sane Android OS on her phone?
With laptops is a ton easier, especially for older models, to install an OS. My mother could do it if I gave her the instructions. With the phones it is a different world. People are already googlefied so you can't just install a new Android without connecting it to their previous account since everything is tied to that. You need to root the phone and hope that it won't brick it. That's something that can make your phone useless. Plus all of these custom Androids that have removed the bloatware only support a tiny fraction of all phones.
LineageOS for example, the one that supports by far the most models - wiki.lineageos.org/devices/ - does not support that phone.
The rest support mostly the Pixel phones, namely the newer ones. And that's another issue...even these custom OSes will support this or that device for a bit, then bye bye. Therefore you still have to buy newer devices even when you want a custom Android that is bloatware free.
Some of these even add their own bloatware like https://e.foundation/e-os/ - with their own subscription models.
I was considering to compromise on buying a second hand but newer model Pixel and then install one of those bloatfree Androids, but then if you buy such a phone second hand and the battery is crap and you can't replace it....what can you do!?
Linux phones, if anyone wonders, are an experiment at best at this stage. Plus they only support a few models too.
It is such a different world when it comes to computers. This Microsoft tablet is more than 10 years old:
And it still works with TROMjaro Linux. Granted to make the bluetooth and wifi work I had to install a custom kernel and do some gymnastics. Easier than installing a custom Android on a phone. But this tablet receives constant updates. And this was a special case since these tablets used some weird hardware for the bluetooth and wifi. Most decade old laptops/computers work just fine with the latest Linux.
So you can bring to life old computers but not old phones.
That's one major reason why I hate smartphones. They are disposable. They come bloated with a ton of crap. It is hard if not impossible to block ads on phones. Plus they are with you all the time so notifications and all that crap will make your life a hell.
Even a Linux phone would not be something I would use much since I do not want to always be trapped in the digital space.
In this trade based society companies are incentivized to release newer model of phones constantly. They support each model for a few years then bye bye. They pre-install a lot of crap to make more off of you. Trades: attention, data, subscriptions. So we end up with a world full of disposable ad-devices that people call as "smartphones". The irony of using the word "smart" for those devices.
And I get it, these devices if they were Linux based only, and supported indefinitely, could be useful in certain circumstances such as navigation, keeping in touch with close friends, etc.. But the rest seems to me like just a tool for consuming, trading. Your life being sucked away from you by companies and individuals who want your currency, your attention, your data.
UGLY.
I will eventually install a custom Android on my own personal phone, a Galaxy S7, 8 years old. To put some life into it. Just so that I get rid of the pile of shit that the software is on all phones nowadays, even if I only use my phone for GPS, maps, and such purposes.
So, the final part of the TROM II documentary is DONE! My god. Finally! But not finally yet!
It is 5am and my brain is melting now. Basically I finished the last part BUT here's the plan: I will take a few days off, I really need that. Then I will help Sasha with her book since she should release it soon too, maybe we'll print a draft this month. I am in "charge" of the cover :D. In the meantime I'll do some TROM work on the many projects I am managing.
In April I will start the final editing of the entire documentary. Basically I want to add some footage for some parts, or cut a few parts here and there to make it less boring, and a few improvements. I hope that a month is enough to sort everything out.
Once that is done I need to make a trailer. That can take a week or two idk...
So I think realistically I will release it in May.
And at this point I have no idea if the documentary is good or not hhahaha. I can't judge it anymore but I will make sure to let everyone know that they should not expect much from it. At this point all I want is to release it and nothing else :D.
But yeah, it is amazing that I finally did it despite having to work more before the release...
A very good take on these "AI" hype-explosions that have happened lately pluralistic.net/2023/03/09/aut…
It is what I was talking since 2016 when I released the book Human Machine tromsite.com/books/#flipbook-d… - these "AI" are neither Artificial or Intelligent. Are statistical pieces of software, and with enough repetition and filters applied to it, can result in cool party-tricks such as creating interesting images and videos, or pieces of text.
That's all it is.
Sure, could be useful if used by non-profits and for a social cause, but else they are just hyped and mostly useless. It is, as Cory puts it in his article, yet another "blockchain-revolution" that never happened.
It is easy to get tricked in today's world, and that's many times because of "trade reasons". Meaning, the companies behind these tools hype the fuck out of them to raise "capital" and sell them, and so they fool the rest. Intelligence, Learning, Neural Networks, Hallucinating....fuck off! These are pieces of software based on a lot of data and statistical outputs.
I remember how IBM Watson was about to "change the world" and replace doctors, lawyers, programmers, you name it! It even wont a Jeopardy game several years ago. Where is it now? Again, HYPE.
Be aware of these!
I was actually very excited about AIs at first, but after trying it out myself I realized that its not exactly what people make it out to be. And I couldn't put my finger on it at first, but then I found this reddit post that explained it quite well - reddit.com/r/Futurology/commen…
Comparing AI to parrot is a very good analogy, because that's what an AI does, it tries to mimic human behaviors like chatting, drawing, etc without actually having a proper "understanding" of what its doing.

For example I asked an AI chatbot to recommend me some songs and it did, then I asked it to give me youtube links to those songs. And everything looked fine, until I actually clicked on those links. Clicking on those youtube links either sent me to a different youtube video or in most cases YouTube said the video was unavailable. So that's when I got it that the AI was trying to "mimic" the YouTube links, and TBF it does a pretty good job at that, but that's all there is to it.

So does this mean AI is totally useless? not really, but I'd definitely warn people against using AIs for learning "new things" that you don't already know, 'cause it can mislead you by giving wrong info. Like the post I linked above says, an AI is like a parrot, and I don't think most people would wanna learn from a parrot regardless of how good it is at mimicking an intelligent-looking conversion. AI can be used to assist you with things you already know how to do.

Another good review of TROMjaro https://ytb.trom.tf/watch?v=S5EoTO7bOqsEspecially when the ones reviewing our distro focus a bit on the trade-free idea. That's the most important part of it all. #tromlive

Schools are not for learning.
School can be seen as an abusive and inefficient system that has little to nothing to do with "education".
Children are forced to wake up at a certain hour, every day, 5 days a week, for 12 years. They are categorized by ages and their "knowledge" level. School creates a competition between the kids, makes then hate science and learning in general, it is a boring and colorless place for these young minds, and overall ends up not teaching children much at all about the world we live in.In a trade-based society the parents NEED to trade themselves in a job, so these kids need to be "livestocked" somehow. That's what school is, a place where kids can be while their parents trade to survive in this society. More to that, Universities almost exclusively prepare these young creatures to become workers, like their parents.
All in all, kids go to school to compete, memorize, get ready to be workers. NOT to be EDUCATED.
If humans could have a decent life without trading in this society, they could have the time to engage with their kids, discover, learn, enjoy. And schools could be places where kids of all ages can go because they want to. A place where experts can teach them about the world and how to do something productive.
EXAMPLES:
Tell kids: See this red dot? This is the farthest thing we can take a photo off. They call it a "star". And you show them a real photo taken by the WEBB telescope. From there on you and your class of kids will investigate what this red dot is, and in the process you'll teach kids about light, physics, maths, distances, stars, the universe.
Or show kids a real dinosaur bone and tell them: Our mission is to understand how old it is and what creature this is. And thus you can go into a journey of discovering what geology is, paleontology, rocks and fossils, and so forth.
Or tell them that our mission is to build a robot. And they will learn mechanics, programming and so forth.
We could create real schools where kids can become curious and learn so much about our world. So that they can become the next Einsteins, the next Teslas, the next ones who can discover new things.
That's the world we should have had by now....
And we wont be able to have it unless we change the trade-based society into a tradeless society. Where humans are not forced to trade in order to survive. Where humans like "teachers" can engage and develop such schools as explained above, to have time for that, not to go to school because that's their job since they have to pay their rent so they are forced to do it.
A few years ago we made a video: Rethinking Education videos.trom.tf/w/2y5RSgvREzT6m… - where we go in depth abotút this.

I like that attitude, haha 😄
BTW, one question - In the origin of most problems book you go a little deeper than just the trade-free idea and also introduce people to things like the VADOSE acronym, does the documentary have something similar in it or is it purely focused on the trade-free idea alone?
