So this month I am focused on the software side of TROM. Towards the end I will get back on TROM II tho. And I will struggle to push my focus more and more away from the software to the content. Not that the software world isn't great, but it was never meant to be taking so much of the TROM space. And we've done a lot in that area, and what we have no is working great and we may even add new stuff.

But I truly need to focus on the content, on what TROM really is about! It is great that we have money to stay away from trading for almost a year or so. Ofc idk what we'll do after and any donations will add up to prolonging this time that we have. But I have now all of the resources I need to finish TROM II. And that's relaxing. #tromlive

Ok I am convinced now, there are tons of peertube accounts made by bots, for the sole purpose of posting comments on random videos with scammy links. I need to go and clean our instance but is damn hard....because i cant look at their comments...so probably I will send an email asking suspicious accounts to contact back and explain why they have an account with our instance....it is damn difficult....

LUT: Fedora Silverblue 36 (disaster) videos.trom.tf/w/63GF5v7pQZ6PG…

I do not want to give a feeling like I am bashing all distros via this channel, but some are not very good in terms of usability. This one in particular was a disaster...however I am not bashing them just pointing out what they can improve. Watch and judge.

So I checked our tromjaro.com/apps/ library of trade-free apps to see if I need to replace any of the screenshots now that we greatly improved how we manage the theming on TROMjaro. Yes I have to replace the screenshots for some of them, which I'll do these days.

But you know what? Out of 650 or so apps, perhaps 50 or so cannot be themed or be fully themed. Max. And that's together with some flatpaks and appimages. So like I was suspecting, we can theme probably some 95% of all apps out there. Which is fantastic.

Keep in mind that our library consists of curated apps from the Gnome library, KDE one, flathub, appimagehub, the AUR wiki of apps, and so on. So it is a random sample size of so many kinds.

So yeah I am super happy! But I am also concerned that Gnome and those it influences, will try to break theming even further in the future. We shall see....

Thanks to the brilliant @Rokosun we now have a script that checks all of our apps from tromjaro.com/apps library (our trade free selection) and alerts us when it finds broken packages or those that need to be moved from AUR to repos and such. Brilliant work! This guy is not only brilliant but such a great human. I am so happy he found TROM and me. He is the most active now when it comes to TROM. Helps a lot. Also the other wonderful one, @Alexio who is always helping!! Wonderful beings. #tromlive

I installed TROMjaro on my mother's laptop. A very cheap, some 200 Euros laptop with quad core AMD cpu and gpu + 4GB of RAM. I found a laptop at the garbage bin a few months ago and managed to save some stuff from it, including 4GB of RAM. So I added 8GB of RAM on her laptop in total.

Anyway.

I wanted to say that everything worked PERFECTLY. I was impressed. Installation, setup, the new chaotic aur...everything. So that's fantastic! That's how I want TROMjaro to be. WORK! And be easy to use. Have access to pretty much all Linux apps from the software center, have auto system backups, even the files backup app that we use I could connect to a Borg server so fast...wow.

All in all, TROMjaro worked great on her laptop. Everything simply works.

And by the way if you have a fan-based laptop, clean it! This laptop was slow like a snail and after I cleaned it (wow the fan was full of dust) works 5 times faster. Feels like a new computer.

I have updated the "How we theme TROMjaro" article - starts here forum.tromjaro.com/t/how-we-th…

And the summary for the entire thing, here forum.tromjaro.com/t/how-we-th…

Basically we fixed the theming in Linux, at least for now, and at least for most of the apps out there: QT, QT5, QT6, GTK, GTK + Libadwaita, and Flatpaks (some).

@Nick @ The Linux Experiment I've heard you a few times in your videos saying that you are obsessed with having a consistent theme across apps, and I am too honestly. So we managed to make our custom distro TROMjaro more consistent than any distro I know. Select a theme/icon set and applies for GTK, GTK + Libadwaita, QT5, QT6 and flatpaks. Here videos.trom.tf/w/hM296SgZvzgRc… :) if you are curious. I thought to share this with you, because I am quite annoyed at the inconsistency in Linux.

Finally! The TROMjaro release with the Chaotic AUR repo as part of it forum.tromjaro.com/t/tromjaro-… + a nearly perfect theming across most linux apps out there :). It is a Beta release, mind you.

Get ready for a big ass TROMjaro release tomorrow: the Chaotic-Beta :D. A big post...but I need to release since I have too many notes and such. We will release a Beta again, alongside the Stable. We need to test the Chaotic AUR a bit more. We will also ship with the near perfect, yet hacky, fix to theming! Harmony created with ugliness! But seems to work so....

Friendica needs a better way of blocking users and entire instances if I, the user, want to do that. I opened an issue here github.com/friendica/friendica… if anyone is interested, jump in with suggestions maybe ;)

I plan to release a new TROMjaro ISO these days. A big release. It will be a Beta release for now, with the chaotic-aur out of the box. I need to release else I lose tracks of the changes I've made and need to detail for the current TROMjaro users....

Once that is done should be less work for me on TROMjaro. I have been so trapped into the software world lately, and I'd like to be less so. Probably the next month I won't be very productive, but I want to also have some outside time. My dear friend @Roma is visiting so I'd like to spend some time together. Talk about TROM-like subjects and more! :)

I try to feel less guilty about not working on the TROM II documentary lately....but should be ok. We can support ourselves for the many months to come, if we spend no more than what we normally do (basic - food and such). So I should have time to finish it and also enjoy life while doing that.

But hey....TROM is alive and well. And we still work on stuff! #tromlive

I have contacted the EFF in regards to our case with Contabo.com.

I thought to give it a shot. It is incredible how the hosting company can force me to remove a link from a service like Nitter, which is a proxy and does not host any files on our server. It is the most harmless of them all. If they can do that, they can remove anything from our servers....and they do not listen to my arguments at all. Not even a bit. Like talking to robots.

Awful...

Rokosun reshared this.

After I asked nicely the hosting company to explain me what laws forced them to force me to remove a Nitter (proxy) link form bird.trom.tf, they said:

we don't have to have a legal debate, because I don't think there's a lawyer sitting on either side right now. It is also completely irrelevant: We don't want our network to be affected, by repeated complaints. We are allowed to protect our reputation, and that is what we are doing here. Besides, it's perfectly clear that you can't use someone else's copyright.

Yeah....haha....you can't talk to these people. Now I am convinced that if anyone makes any sort of complaint and say "Ohhhh trom.tf is distributing spam and copyrighted content!!!" they will force us to take down any URL/website....this is disturbing.....

If anyone knows a cheap hosting provider that may be a bit less awful than contabo please let me know....

Yeah if open source apps get traded, they will go downhill like everything else. Saw many examples of that, and we will see more and more. Humans seem not to realize that if you trade something, you will (eventually) ruin that something. So yeah...pay for Open Source apps is a very bad idea. Support the projects, yes. great idea. But paying, again, bad idea. Bad incentive for the developers and the ones buying. You'll see nonsense features and stupid freemiums.

Anyway...

in reply to Tio

The donate button is a good thing I think, but its not good if users are forced to pay. Paid apps are not very common in FOSS, its usually proprietary software that does it, but with the implementation of systems like this maybe more and more FOSS apps will do it. #TradeRuinsEverything as always, if developers can't make it in this society without trading their work then what can they do?

At least Flathub is making a separate repo for paid apps, so it can be disabled on Tromjaro.

Here another demo, this time with the upcoming ISO - default TROMjaro quick change into Linux Mint or MacOS, or something else. :) - see how easy it is? And consistent across pretty much all Linux apps.

We managed to successfully integrate the chaotic-aur and our theming work....works great! We still need a bit more testing! But so far TROMjaro is, in my view, amazing. :D
