ACLU: A 1,500-bed ICE detention facility in a Maryland town of 2,000 has been HALTED

On March 11, 2026, 7:34 PM, ACLU of Maryland posted:

Tonight, a federal judge in Maryland ordered ICE to temporarily halt work on its plan to convert a warehouse into a large immigrant detention facility, finding the agency likely violated federal environmental law in its rush to expand detention in the state.

ICE had planned for the Maryland site to be one of the first new detention facilities to open nationwide. This ruling stops that effort in its tracks and forces the government to answer for its lack of transparency.

Join us in celebrating this significant win and in thanking the communities in Western Maryland who have spent months organizing to stop this detention center from moving forward.
