Flatpaks are easier to use in most distros. If you're using NixOS, then Nix of course. But if you want to do a lot of CLI stuff, then Nix may be better too.
They can be isolated because Nix has in-built support for three different levels of sandboxing - virtual machines, containers as well as ephemeral shells.

Congratulations on the blog and the integration of Mastodon on it, I hadn’t heard of Emfed before. May I ask where the site is hosted? Since org-static-blog seems to generate a static site, I’d be happy to switch to it from a homebrew website.el script I have.
My email provider* allows me to store a modest amount of files, and configures easily to host web pages from those directories. I can mount those directories to my desktop and copy the static files over with a hook run after org-static-blog generates them. Another provider manages domain names and so forth.
*with whom I was very happy until recent union-busting cruelty, and for whom I now withhold public endorsement as I search for a replacement. Recommendations welcome.
Oh? Which provider is this? I’m on Fastmail and they allow static hosting as well, for some strange reason I haven’t used that option. My static site currently runs out of GitHub, I’ve been meaning to move it to Codeberg or SourceHut but haven’t got around to actually do that.
@bmp I can see the advantages of either approach (Fastmail vs. the forges), and I trust sourcehut and Codeberg, but I just prefer to have multiple independent points of failure.

@drewdevault I installed FreeBSD on an ancient X200 recently, to start daily-driving it again. Sort of a test-bed prior to switching over my main machine (a desktop), while I work out the kinks in my setup scripts and make them play nicely with 14.1.
Sourcehut is one of the few websites I use regularly that performs well on such old hardware (Core 2 Duo w/ 4GiB RAM). Not only is it fast, the layout is just fine for a small screen.

I got your message but I think the last of goal of so much companies is sell to get money even if we mock the word money with trade at the end they need this trade to survive or don't sacrifice privileges.
It is true that most trades translate into "money" in today's society. But increasingly cryptocurrencies are getting more popular. However the focus should be on trade else we lose sight with whats happening online where data ant attention are traded without people realizing it.
The incentive is bad overall, from small to big companies, or individuals. Yes most have to trade to survive, and that is very bad and we should change this situation; it is also true that google and the like are not trading in order to survive, but to thrive in an unequal and ass backwards society.

The entire premise of my original post is that it is not good saying "if it's free, you are the product" since for one it makes it seem like whatever is "free" is not to be trusted, and second it gives google and the like approval for using the word "free" for their trade-based services.
Google is trade-based. Facebook is trade-based. Nextcloud is trade-free. Friendica is trade-free.
I agree if it's free is not trusted, until the user figures out that is trust. I agree that not all the companies or products are evil or want to abuse to get money but the majority do it. Also there are thousands of user that don't know about the "trade" it's not a real trade if you don't know if it's a "trade"

You run a business selling food, you have little choice, you have to pay your rent. I need food. I work, make money, then buy food from you. We were both coerced into this game, now who is stealing from who in his situation?

Coding this little text adventure game in #python ... Yes I #code a bit too, I have very many distractions/ interests.
I've built like a smallish town of rooms so far and made it so things in rooms change. For example if the player picks up something or talks to someone.
I've also made it so the player can buy stuff. It's kinda interesting and fun to do.
I got no story line at the moment. It'll just be going around collecting items to tackle problems. I may post the code somewhere later.

I'll be honest with you guys. I thought vim navigation in a browser is just a gimmick and clunky. But the more I used it, the more I fell in love with it. I find it hard to use a browser without vim. Simple actions like searching and navigating (inside the page and across tabs) is a breeze. If you are vim user, you should definitely try it.

Application can only access a limited part of the system? = use flatpak or build a container/VM image using the nix pkgs.
Application can be uninstalled completely and has separate libraries? I prefer nix.
