Nix apps are not sandboxed and you have no control of what resources they have access to or don't, unless you wrap them with some other program

LalSalaamComrade doesn't like this.

They can be isolated because Nix has in-built support for three different levels of sandboxing - virtual machines, containers as well as ephemeral shells.

@_sohalt @tonicfunk @Variaxocellus Oh hell yeah. It's good to know EDM, techno, etc can survive the collapse of technological civilisation. We'll be able to play ourselves out.

As someone with mild photosensitivity, though, I could do without the flashing lights.

I've been using hugo for mine, but now that I know that org-static-blog exists, I'll have to check that out.

@mark The code is transparent and squeaky clean. It does everything I want with zero cruft. I'm so happy I finally found it.

licensing hot take

copyright, same as patents, is not a way through which you can make anything better. any clauses against freedom 0 do more harm than good. and any clauses against freedom 0 can and will backfire against you and what you very intended them to do.

like good fucking luck fighting in court over, say, a contributor arguing that calling someone "bi lesbian" is "homophobic", and therefore prohibited under OQL-1.1.

on the other hand good luck arguing in court that Bogus Holding B.V., a company with no employees and capital of 10 EUR is actually Global Tetrahedron, Inc., a military contractor, and therefore violating OQL-1.1.

meanwhile you've prevented everyone else from reusing some parts of your code under a free software license, almost every Linux distro from ever packaging your software, maintainers of any derivatives from hosting them on Codeberg, ...

@drewdevault I installed FreeBSD on an ancient X200 recently, to start daily-driving it again. Sort of a test-bed prior to switching over my main machine (a desktop), while I work out the kinks in my setup scripts and make them play nicely with 14.1.

Sourcehut is one of the few websites I use regularly that performs well on such old hardware (Core 2 Duo w/ 4GiB RAM). Not only is it fast, the layout is just fine for a small screen.

Big 🤗 for some quality software 🎉

@LautreG OK, I agree with you, but disagree with original author. Yes Google isn't privacy-friendly. That has been proved in many cases, articles and videos. Yet people refuse to believe this.

Coding this little text adventure game in #python ... Yes I #code a bit too, I have very many distractions/ interests.

I've built like a smallish town of rooms so far and made it so things in rooms change. For example if the player picks up something or talks to someone.

I've also made it so the player can buy stuff. It's kinda interesting and fun to do.

I got no story line at the moment. It'll just be going around collecting items to tackle problems. I may post the code somewhere later.

Want to see how to do updating #ux good? My preferred Git client, SmartGit, has a new user interface, which is generally bad because it breaks people's workflows.

Here's how handled it: they ASKED the user which UI they'd PREFER! Crazy! And I went ahead and chose the new UI because I know I can go back to the one I'm used to. I'll follow this up with another real nice touch that SmartGit does better than other #gtk apps.

This is how you can translate a video from any language into English using Kdenlive. I tested it with a video spoken in 5-6 languages and it did fantastic. You can also use TROMjaro Linux tromjaro.com/ for easy setup and management of your OS in general.
