There are two major issues with our Friendica instance and I suspect they are not limited to our instance: 1. I cannot unfollow anyone... and 2. No RSS feeds work. This makes Friendica very hard for me to use and unreliable. All started since the last update I think. The first issue seems to be fixed for the next release based on this github.com/friendica/friendica… . But the RSS one is still a mystery github.com/friendica/friendica…
@Hypolite Petovan you guys planning to release a stable one this month?

Today I updated 3 laptops and a tablet to the latest TROMjaro, using our packages. Some of these laptops were not updated in like half a year. It was not that difficult despite having to add the chaotic aur to 2 of them, and for all to add our new packages. For some it was quite smooth. But things should be far far easier from now on because of our new packages that are basically pushing most of our custom updates directly to people's computers. I love TROMjaro and how stable it has become. Plus how functional.
Lots and lots of work for the so many projects that we have....but now my to-do list is quite skinny. Am going to start the work on TROM II again these days. And continue to work on it .... I hope so.

LUT: Linux Mint 21 (good) videos.trom.tf/w/dHq2G4SY9eAUH…
Finally a distro that does well in terms of usability. Not great. But good. I know these videos may be boring but there is a lot to learn from them. I am testing things that every distro should hard-code into their essence. And it helps me make TROMjaro better.
Linux Mint is doing ok. Better than the rest for sure. But there are some things that still make this distro less user friendly. And these things can be fixed.videos.trom.tf

Linux mint is one of the most stable and reliable distros I've tried so far. It does lack the app availability of AUR, but if you don't install a whole lot of apps then you could find most of what you need here.
And BTW, now you see how flatpaks can take up gigabytes of disk space for a single app. TBF, I've heard that this size issue gets better as you use flatpaks more, but even then for the avarage user its crazy to see such a small app taking GBs of space.

My RSS feeds, all of them, stopped working some 2 weeks ago. I checked a bunch of them, they all work outside Friendica. My instance version is 2022.06. I wonder what I can check or do. I have a lo...GitHub

If you are an older TROMjaro user and did not yet implemented the Chaoric AUR into your system, we highly recommend you to do that. Our Library of apps also relies on it. It is super easy to implement.TROMjaro Forum

FINALLY! I wanted to do this for a year now. And we did it! Now TROMjaro is a lot better and much easier for us to maintain it. If you use TROMjaro you need to read this release's notes! Enjoy!

Peertube finally introduced in the release 2 things I asked for and really wanted joinpeertube.org/news#release-…
Awesome!
One little thing.... @PeerTube you have used a screenshot from our instance videos.trom.tf to showcase the old and new registration module. Ours as the "old" version. However we have a very customized theme so it does not make much sense to use our instance in that regards. Can be confusing. Just saying :D - Otherwise awesome job ofc!
We should update our instance soon!

Great amount of wok on TROMjaro these days. @Roma worked like nuts! Then @Rokosun came to help. Both fantastic creatures. Our scripts look way better now. Before we had to run them every few seconds (bad), now we trigger them based on relevant changes of the system. This result in instant actions.
So, let me repeat, we are able to sync the system's theme, icon pack, and font, across GTK, GTK + LIbadwaita, Qt, QT5, QT6, and Flatpaks (the ones that support it). This is USABILITY, not simply fancy shit. And it works. Instantly. Makes the desktop fuckin' sane.
So bloody happy with TROMjaro. It is unfortunate that so few people know about it...but well...we will try to make it more visible...what can we do!? :D

We are so close to fully finalize the creation of some very much needed packages for TROMjaro. We finished the packages for the TROMjaro Layout and Theme Switcher, and for our script fixes - tho needs to be tested more. Likely these days we will have a full suite of packages that are so needed for TROMjaro. For normal users it means that you do not have to manually update any of the scripts that we do/update/change. ;) - and for us it means easy and fast changes/updates.
This packaging is thanks to @Roma who is visiting me and on top of having a great time together, we also do these things :). Awesome human! 10/10! :)

We found some alternatives to contabo.com where we host our servers. Contabo is a cunt, to put it simply, forcing us recently to remove perfectly legal links and such. By the end of this year or beginning of the next we should start the move from contabo to another hosting. I'd like not to....but I am forced to. One particular provider seems quite good and a bit cheaper, we could expand our disk-space for trom.tf.
I am concerned with how to move it all when it comes to friendica or matrix....their databases are immense.....but will see when the time comes.

This is their justification social.trom.tf/display/dbc8dc4…
Howdid you verify that, once you move, you won't have the same issue with trom.tf?
idk how that would be....we need to try...
Sounds great, however I looked at the prices and are quite high. To give you an example we pay some 32 euros a month currently for a 10 core cpu, 2TB of SSD, 1 GB connection and 64GB of RAM. We need a lot of disckspace since we provide a lot of free services via trom.tf. And we use some 30-40GB of RAM usually.
I'd love to use a hosting provider like you, but unfortunately I cannot afford right now... :(
Sounds good to me; cost isn't the *only* factor.
Do you provide any API access to management services? One thing Contabo is doing well is their cli tool for management. Even if there's no tool, having an API to script against is nice.
The Contabo APIs allow you to provision, restart, etc, servers. They're adding DNS management (a big one, for me), vital for PTR, TXT etc if you're managing an email server. It's those sorts of interactions I'd really rather manage from a cli than a web interface.
Does the ssh solution help me here?
Do they apply German laws everywhere? They're a German company, I know, but they also have servers in other places. It sounds like *any* company you host with, if the server is in DE you can't host nitter there.
My point: would a simple solution being to have your Contabo instance moved to another country?

No, I asked. They said same rules apply....

Here's an extraordinary story of how humans can help each other. No need to pay them. They will. Take care of humans, so we take car of us all. Ok, society?
Why are people still watching movies? Watch these real stories via documentaries if you want to watch something exciting, thrilling, mind-blowing, and so on. And REAL.

These days I am spending quality time with @Roma and when I have some time I fix our websites for mobile screens. So far I fixed most of them. Should be done in a few days time with the rest. Recently I fixed:
Not perfect, but good.
These days I'll also work with Roma to make a few packages for TROMjaro for our scripts Something I wanted to do for so long. If we do that I will be over the moon happy.
Next week I hope to start the work on TROM II again! #tromlive

Someone who wants to join our Friendica instance asked me if ours is blocked by other instances. Well...see folks!? How can I know!? On the fediverse any admin can block any instance without you and me having a clue if, what and when they do so.
I keep on telling you, this practice is ruining the fediverse as a whole. It is almost like burning down forests becasue you found some weeds.
We need a way to know who blocked what. Not only what my instance blocked, but what instances blocked mine.
However the best practice is not blocking instances at the admin level, EXCEPT when an instance is clearly full of spam-bots. Let the users decide for themselves what they want to block. There are many proposed solutions out there as to how we can deal with unwanted content, such as: disable the global timeline, shorter lifespan for remote items (so you don't really host any remote content), blocklists enforced by admins but that can be overwritten by users, or adblock-like lists that any user can easily apply for themselves.
Be smart, federated people! Think long term, not short term.

Kings and Queens are an insult to humanity. We are all humans. We are all important in our own way. We should work together and see each other as one species. Social classes, queens, bosses, rich people, doctors, celebrities....are all imagination. Human imagination. Some posses some skills (true), and we should focus on that (such as doctors), but it is mostly a sick game of labels in a messed-up society.
Wake up, reality is calling! #tromlive
