I have enabled the dash quality for our Invidious instance by default now ytb.trom.tf - seems to work better than the otehr one. With this you get better quality videos. Will see how it goes ;) #tromlive

Instance temporarily banned becuase of requests sent to dead accounts

!Friendica Admins So here's something new to me. Someone contacted me to tell me that he has banned our IP (I guess) from his instance since the following happened: he had 2 accounts on his instance that he has removed since. But seems that some people followed him from our instance, and now our instance basically tries to connect with his dead accounts resulting in multiple errors on his instance.

How to navigate this? Is this something I can do anything about? Should I even bother? Isn't this something that is probably happening across the fediverse all the time?

Fuck it I had 1 goal today after I worked so hard: to watch the first part from beginning to end to see how it all combines. I could for 40 minutes then I got interrupted several times...fucking hell. So yeah.....idk seems ok...but idk anymore. Quite annoyed. Fuck it. You can't fuckin create something like a documentary that requires your full attention while sharing the house with many people who work and come and go and make noises and call and all that. That's why all of my life I lived in the darkness. After everyone went to sleep. So I can focus on these things...

I know is not their fault but so frustrating that I could not get to properly watch this first part...fuck.

Anyway, I will try to calm myself down these days and start part 2....

Damn I think I finished the first part of TROM II. Well of course I will need to fix a few little things, but that's when all of the other parts are done. I have added 20 more minutes to it. I still have to watch it all tomorrow to see if all makes sense. But since I watched it, and parts of it, sooo many times I feel like I can't judge it anymore. Thing is I will never ever be able to experience this documentary like the rest....I wish I could somehow just to see if I like it or not and if it has an impact on me haha. But this cannot be done.

Anyways, tomorrow I'll watch it all again and then probably I will move to part 2.

That's one weird aspect of creating these things, I never thought of this before, even though you made the documentary you won't be able to enjoy it like the rest of us who don't know what's in wait for us......

Here's another example of how this trade system makes people lie and deceive. I have a 1000w electric scooter since like 2014 or so. Quite old. The battery started to not work anymore, of course, so it was collecting dust in the garage. I decided to fix it, clean it, and order a new battery just in case I may sell it. Or just to use it because I feel bad seeing a thing with a motor, wires, and all that, not being used at all.

The battery is 36v and 16Ah. 36v means the power of it, and 16Ah how much energy it holds. The more Ah the more you can drive it. Mine was ok, I could go for like 20Km max. Old battery. Anyway.

So I go to AliExpress, which is a world-wide very known online shop. And I find a fuck ton of batteries. Really really cheap. I thought that these new batteries got smaller and a lot cheaper since last time I looked at them (years ago). So I chose one for 50 Euros that was 36v and 100Ah. One HUNDRED! I was like "wow, I can drive this for like 80Km or some shit like that".

I found it hard to believe but AliExpress was full of such batteries. I thought that if they have it specified that is 36v and 100Ah then it must fuckin' be, right?

I contacted the seller and asked...I looked at their reviews....all looked good. They assured me it is indeed 100Ah. The battery was 5 times lighter and 3 times smaller than the old one I had, but naively I thought these new batteries can hold a lot more energy in a smaller form factor...

Anyway I ordered it - 50 bucks was ok.

Came after 3-4 months. In the meantime, since it delayed so much, I complained to AliExpress so I got my money back but the battery still arrived. Free battery! Great!

So these past days I have tested it. With my old battery that was 16Ah I could go for some 20Km. With this battery that they said was 100Ah (more than 5 times the capacity) I can ride for like 5-6Km max. hahaha. So this battery must be 6-7Ah, not 100. What a fucking difference! And yet they keep on selling them with the same specifications.

This is like ordering a 17inch laptop with a core i7 8cores cpu at 4ghz, and get one that's 11inch with a core i3 at 2ghz. Imagine if that would be the case...

So yeah. I got scammed, but at least I got my money back. It is unbelievable how gutsy these merchants have become....unbelievable, but not surprising.

I have to say I am a bit annoyed at something in regards to the fediverse: the fact that I see people flocking to what is popular, as they always do. I really hate to see people being sheep. I bet most people use Mastodon because it is a popular platform. Nothing against Mastodon at all. I think it is great to have variety. However this attitude is what is fucking us all. People seem to never test stuff and seek for better options, they all go with what is popular....

Another day another good work for TROM II. I only have 1 section to glue to the rest, and then I am done with the backbone of it all for the first part. With these new additions I think the first part is better. I know I keep on posting updates about this thing that won't be available soon, but I do this mostly for myself :). Helps me, so...

But also to inform those that are interested in the documentary.

This documentary truly is a monster in terms of editing. To cut the 30-40 hours of interviews down to some 5-6 hours. To glue them together and make them have some sense....to add footage, music, sound and video effects...and still a lot more to go. I still aim to release by the end of this year but idk if this is possible. We shall see.

Also idk whats up with the hosting company but for my last 2 bills they sent me the money instead of charging me....hm....that's good but wtf...And these past days they gave me the money I have to pay (like they sent a payment to my bank account) and then they charged me the same amount today hahaha. That's hilarious. But if tha

That is great, of course. Now, please allow other instances to follow your own so we spread these good videos on the fediverse. Makes no sense to not allow that....you just make it more difficult to follow all of the channels on your instance. One has to individually follow each of them....

Our TROM Live stopped working.
We are perhaps going to change our TROM Live page for good. You see in order for us to post live updates on this page we had to do a hack that involved RSS + Google’s FeedBurner + a paid for plugin. The posts were not properly formatted at times, plus for the past days the hack stopped working. We guess is because Google’s FeedBurner is discontinued, or in the process of.
But why complicate things? We are on the Fediverse already! That’s a proper social network. So from now on keep an eye on our page. Make an account with our TROM Social and interact with us and so forth. You can also follow the TROM updates that the TROM members post: Tio, Sasha, Aaron.

Did you know that dive-masters and instructors are one of the lowest paid jobs out there. Where I live they pay around 5-6 Euros an hour. If you work in cleaning you get double that. But imagine this...a dive-master/instructor needs months of training + has a huge responsibility for the people they dive with. You can die underwater, it is dangerous. And yet they are paid nothing. Many places do not pay at all they say that you should work for free to "gain experience" as a diver....

That's the world we live in. Value doesn't mean anything more than random trading value. A painting can be more valuable than saving a million people from starvation. Our society is insane. And TROM II is all about exposing that, since we need to first understand how and why it is insane.

Setting aside for a moment the question of whether or not it is fair that people get paid according to a trading value, I would not call this value random. It makes sense to me that a clearly diminishing but absolutely necessary task like cleaning is given more value than making possible a leisure activity like diving.

That's your view of course, and there is some truth in it, however it is cleaning for tourists. Tourists who come for leisure time. Not really necessary either. Not saying that work is not valuable, however being a dive-master requires a lot of responsibility for people's lives. Neither of those jobs, or any otehr job for that matter, has a real value in the trade game - it is quite random. A fotball player can make a lot more than a physicist. An instagram "influencer" can make more than a doctor. And so on...

Did great today with TROM II. Lots of work. Less than a week and the first part is done. :) - Excited to then move to finishing part 2. I only need to make this part coherent and edit it a bit. Most of it is already edited.

And by teh way the concept of appimages is fantastic. Now I realize how much it helps. I have a half a year old Kdenlive appimage that I use for the first part and that allows me to work on the video project for a long time without being concerned that an update may break something. Appimages are truly contained so in theory I should be able to use this appimage version for years without an issue. From what I know flatpaks are not truly contained. They share libraries and stuff. It is a reason why in TROMjaro we have integrated the support for appimages.

Except the heat all good with my life for now :) . I hope to continue like so. #tromlive

I think appimages are used for special situations like this. You normally wouldn't install every app as an appimage, but in situations like this where kdenlive breaks compatibility or something, then having an appimage can be real handy. I think most people use Tor browser as an appimage too since they recommend that, and it allows me to update the app separately from the rest of my system. torbrowser-launcher is the package I use and it automates this process for me.

BTW, I just wanted to point out that while you can technically use an old program for years, that doesn't mean you should. Lots of bugs and security holes are patched through updates, so its always best to keep everything up to date when possible.

I used to use Nextcloud to organize TROM, then because their chat app wasn't that great at that time I moved to Matrix. That is because we used the chat more than anything else. Matrix is also great because it is a better chat like the fact that it supports markdown is crucial for us when we send bits of code over the chat. Also, you can connect to millions of others via Matrix...

But then I needed a Trello like thing. In Nextcloud I had Decks. Worked great. Now I am testing Vikunja via tasks.trom.tf/.

Our TROMjaro repo is in on our Nextcloud still and we use it for file sharing...

So now instead of just using Nextcloud I use 2 more services....maybe eventually I will move back to Nextcloud since it has so many apps that integrate with each other...and yes I know there are bridges between Matrix and Nextcloud but they sound better than they are functional.

We tried that too but is not that great if you use the chats a lot...plus we use it to send code snippets a lot and Matrix does a great job at it. Talk does no job at it currently :D

Also wtf is so hot...north of spain 33 degrees....many places in spain over 40 degrees. I have no idea how people can survive in over 40 degrees heatness....this is madness...

I read this article sciencebasedmedicine.org/in-wh… and then I watched the documentary "What Is a Woman?" + several discussions/debates about sex and gender. I wrote about this subject and I started a bigger book a year or so ago that I may finish it one day...

So...

I think both sides are wrong, and partially right at times. One side is like "There are only 2 genders, male and female, everything else is BS". These people are usually religious. The other side is like "There are many genders and people are born gay, or whatever, it is in our genes".

Now...what is trues is that most human beings are born either male of female, from a biological perspective. So their chromosomes or genitalia can be classified as one or another. And about 1-2% are in-between kinda, from that perspective. So we do have 2 sexes mainly, and exceptions that fit in-between (intersex). That's not something anyone can argue against.

But now wha

So...

But now what about how people behave? What they are sexually attracted to? Identify as? Well I could not find any study to show any strong correlation between any bio-chemical or genetic marker and any such behavior....to put it simply, you cannot look at anyone's genes, biology or chemistry and say "Ah, yeah this one likes males, this other one likes females. And this one identifies as a woman.". There is no such thing.

So this thing called "gender" has many meanings. Whatever people think they are, is whatever they think they are. Good for you. But there is nothing inborn about sexuality or sexual attraction. This applies for me, for you, for anyone else. So what!? We pick up our values, wishes, fears, funniness, from the environment. All we are is a creation of the environment. Good. Why is it that important to debate so long about gender and such!?

Anyone can identify as they wish, and fuck what they want, and behave in any way they want. If in the process they create any harm to someone else, we should focus on that. Easy.

LGBTQ TRELK GJDSNR etc. People should fuckin' relax. And also please do not entangle science with your feelings. If science tells us something, we should accept it regardless of the consequences.

According to Wikipedia, there seem to be many biological factors that significantly contribute to sexual orientation.

I am not an expert on human science, I definitely do not have one specific study in mind. But I see this Wikipedia article that cites many sources and that concludes

Biological theories for explaining the causes of sexual orientation are favored by scientists.

If you are going to write a book with the opposite conclusion, I hope that you are going to address those sources.
Maybe you can point to a scientific review that shares your conclusions?

Oh yeah I have plenty of very recent studies that show there is no strong correlation.

Basically you have to keep in mind one thing: no one can look at a human's biology (genes, brain, chemicals, hormones, etc) and say with certainty that this human is attracted to males, or identifies as a female, or anything like that. For that matter they cannot do so and say one is violent, a criminal, saint, calm, angry, depressed, schizophrenic, and so on. If this was the case, and it was reliable, then we could by now use these to identify people with all sorts of behavioral issues. So do not forget that.

Maybe I do not understand how strong a correlation you are talking about. Of course it is not 100% genetics, but genetics do seem to play an important role.

How accurate is it to depict that question as "people who believe only sex matters" vs "people who thing gender identity and orientation are 100% genetics"?

This is what I mean by strong correlation: if we take Disease A and have a strong correlation with the genes TG and TT, then it means that we can predict who will get the Disease A with a better than 50/50 (random) guess just by looking at the TG and TT genes.

It means if you have 1 million people then a random guy and a scientist: the random guy will randomly say "These people have the Disease A" and the scientist looks at those particular genes and based on that says "These people have the Disease A", the scientist needs to do much better than the random guy. That means better than a guess.

When it comes to sexuality and sexual attraction and take 1 million people, then the random guy and the scientist will do quite the same, 50/50 since the scientist cannot look at any bio-chemical thing and say "This one is attracted to females, this one identifies as a male".

You know what I mean?

What I mean is that the "random guy" to beat to declare the existence of a biological contribution (ie of somthing inborn about gender or sexuality) is not 50/50. In the absence of favoring factors, not 50% of humans are LGBT+, so why should that be declared as the threshold?

No no 50/50 means "random". Maybe I should not have used that wording. But it is used in english quite a lot. So my point was that to pick who is say "gay" and who is not, will have the same accuracy between the random guy and the scientist. That's how they study these things to see if the prediction is better than chance. Hope you understand my point better now.

Gender is a social construct. They at least understand that. I am talking about the gender identity and sexual orientation. They do say that these are "inborn". I do not have the time to send you quotes form the article, but I also had a discussion with the author of the article in the comments. They clearly do.

Yeah I am obsessed with that. And that's good. However the sources also have to be "proper" sources. That is more difficult to achieve. At the end of the day I am not a politician who can take decisions, I am not a scientist that writes scientific papers, so the way I create the books is I think very much ok for that purpose, of informing people.

Yes and I think you do a good job at it, reading your books makes me think deeply about our world, and I think this is something the everyone needs right now. And all of your books are free too, no hidden costs, no ads, no data collection, etc, completely trade-free. You really are a big proponent of science and education, we need more people like you who're genuine about educating people 🙂

Thanks for these links by the way ! I will start by going through the 2016 review cited by Wikipedia when I have some time. Then I'll try to find out what these apparently more recent studies add to it.

As far as I remember I went one by one on every study cited in WIkipedia then read the most actual studies. I have them all saved and all that. Looked at twins studies, intersex, the study of homosexuality and even animals.The strongest correlation they could find, which is weird, is the birth order. So if you are the 4th kid, you are statistically far more likely to become gay later on in life. They theorize why but they do not understand. Being the 6th kid increases the chances even more.

So what is your take on all those sources you went through? Are they not reliable? Have all their results failed to be reproduced later on? Is Wikipedia overstating their importance?

In all cases, why not editing Wikipedia with the more recent results then?

The thing I hate about this is the involvement of politics here, it doesn't matter whether gender or sexual orientation is influenced by genes or not, people should still have the right to be whoever they want to be. And we don't have to defend gays by saying they're born that way, because if being gay is a learned behavior then being straight also is, there is no "natural behavior" here. Tio, what this means for you is that some of these studies you read might be politically motivated instead of being scientifically motivated. This is big problem, we should be able to keep politics away from science, and no scientific studies should be used to oppress people.

Damn it is a lot of work on this documentary....I managed to insert 1 out of 4 bits in the first part. 9 minutes....longer than the rest. I have 3 more bits to insert. I think in about a week I should be done with that. That is, done with the 1st part of the documentary. I said that before but I didn't go through all of the footage when I said that so I knew perhaps there is more to add to it.

When I am done with this I am done. Except maybe tweak some video effects, transitions, and such a little. Not much. I expect in a week to move to part 2 and insert the bits that need to be inserted there too.

I could be done with both parts in 2-3 weeks. Maybe less...depends how much I can work....

Then the next two parts are gonna be a lot of work since I need to fully edit them.

The Online has become the Offline

Around 2005-2007 I was swimming in the online world. I had my own blog, and I was following other blogs too. Seemed genuine. You were following brains, and some were interesting. Others followed your brain. It was nice.

Even when it came to videos I was using at least 3 platforms, one of which was Youtube. Posting on Youtube could get you random views and lots of engagement, out of nowhere. It was more real. At least that's how it felt.

In 2011 I was able to release an Internet documentary. It went a bit viral. Others released similar documentaries/videos back then and they got a sort of reach. We were screaming about how fucked up our society is, and some of us also about what we could do to change that.

It kinda worked.

I remember those "activists" who would go out on the streets trying to make the rest aware of similar things. Like these guys:

And I was thinking....man they have no chance to make anyone stop and listen. Because they were in the middle of a movement. Like a physical movement. People moving from their places to other places. Jobs. They were out to trade. Trade their skills, time, energy in order to be able to have a roof over their heads, access to food, healthcare and so forth. Mostly via the currency called "money".

These zombified people had no time to listen and think. Imagine a subway full of these workers....they NEED to go to their job. Are obliged to. They cannot stop.

So I thought it is pointless to intervene in that environment. That's why I chose the Internet. The Internet felt more like a park. A place where people went in their free time from their jobs, to explore new things. it was new. And not so busy.

That's why it worked to create new things and have others pay some attention to them.

Not anymore!

The society we live in is based on trades as I keep on saying and as it is so obvious. You trade, I trade, your mom trades, your dad trades. Everyone is forced, compelled, and incentivized to do that all of their lives. This has created a rat race, inequality, and overall shitty behaviors, zombifying all humans.

And now the park has become the subway.

The trade world took several years to fully migrate from the offline to the online. Now we do not have blogs anymore since Facebook provided humans with an easy way to share their thoughts, photos and videos, at the expense of trading for that. They lied that their service is free. Humans had to trade their data, attention (via ads), and currency to reach more people. But Facebook took off and no one would bother having their own blog.

Youtube was not a video sharing platform anymore, but a video trading platform. You could convert your views into currency, and youtube inserted ads into your face to make you a better consumer. You traded again your attention and data to youtube.

Facebook became a place where you trade with them, but also where people did not simply post their thoughts there, they used their reach to trade for currency or products. What posts? There you see ads with ads. Youtube ironically called their users as "creators", while these zombies all they cared was how to make more views (again) to trade for a new car, a new house, paying the rent.

Google, Facebook, and a few more companies started to orchestrate the Internet. What you search, what you see, what you do not see, what incentivizes you to post a video or to write a post....all directed by a few companies that all they wanted was the same old thing: to trade.

What was once a park, it is now a subway full of zombies that go somewhere, to trade. Attracted like a powerful magnet, the idiots go to TikTok, Youtube, Instagram, Facebook, and the like, all because they are sucked in by a combination of tremendous power and influence from the part of these companies, coupled with the non-interesting life that most workers have, and lastly the fact that on these platforms many can become traders themselves.

The Internet is not a park, is a subway. Even worse, it is a bazaar. A place mostly full of useless shit where the sellers harass you to buy their shit.

That's the Internet now. All of those Youtube "creators", Instagram "influencers", Facebook Pages, and so on, are most, if not all, merchants. Most of the online content is shit, for the sake of trading it. Most of the platforms are bazaars. There is no more park anymore. Most care about the views, the engagement, the likes...platforms care to optimize for these, for ads, for money making. It is an ugly place.

That's how I feel.

How the YouTube Creator Economy Works

So now if I want to say something important to humans, and I want to do it online, I feel like those people in a subway practicing their "activism". Seems pointless. Everyone in the online world is going somewhere: check the Twitter, check Youtube, watch Neetflix, see what friends posted on Facebook...there is no more casual walk in the Internet world to discover new things, to stop and listen for a bit.

But yeah....despite this I am continuing my work. I will release a new documentary this year, even if I know very well that it won't have any big impact. I continue with the 30+ projects that we have. I see no alternative. I could choose the Online over the Offline in 2007. But now what can I choose?

It is ok, this species will disappear eventually and our trace in the Universe won't exist. At least that makes me more relaxed to think about. :)

But considering you won't be allowed to post naked humans in the same CGI environment and have a similar funny scene, says a lot about our society. You can however post a scene where a kid is dead and then 2 adults are killed. Good job humans, you are obviously drunk as fuck.
