Quite an interesting doco to see how culture can be cancerous for silly reasons. Stuff to learn from it.

In the early days of the internet sometimes I let my naughty curiosity have some fun and I remember searching for rare animal encounters like a lion and a tiger, or whatever....was curious how these 2 predators react.
Do that now and you get loads of channels like this youtube.com/@Buzzbible/videos
Fake AI shit...and they are getting better and better. And they get so many thousands of views, if not millions. And they even make money out of it.
Yah, how can I not want to give up the internet game?! It is getting shittier and shittier.
The incentive is the issue, not the technology. When you have millions of humans who are poor, but also taught that making money and consuming is important, then they do their best to make money.
No regulation or law will work.
The solution? Maybe get people out of poverty, give everyone their basic needs at least so we dont have hungry hyenas everywhere trying to hunt everyone. This is a discussion that is lacking among those who complain about the state of the internet...

Thank you to those who are helping TROM monthly! Our first goal is to reach 100 monthly donors to kickstart a new video series for TROM, bring back TROMnews and provide 20GB storage space for our Nextcloud install (TROM Files) for everyone.
We have a lot of projects and hundreds, if not thousands of people are using our services.
Everything we do is trade-free. No bullshit.
We need 17 more donors to reach our first goal. If you can help please see tromsite.com/donate/
Again thank you to everyone who has supported this project for so many years now!

I’ve been meaning to write this blog for well over a year, and finally managed to get it done:
bigworldsmallsasha.com/2025/12…
It's about my whole journey of writing and publishing my book (all the sweat and tears it took + how much I earned in the end), as well as a few other updates about what I've been doing over the past few years and where we'll likely head next.
Thanks to everyone who's been there for me throughout this journey! I appreciate you all 💛
My Book Release – and Other Ultra-belated Updates
I released my book in 2024 but never got around to writing a blog about it, so here it is— (better late than never, right?) In a nutshell, the book explains my story of traveling around the world for the past 15 or so years with little money (and it …Big World | Small Sasha

I don't feel pressured to read it, no worries 😄 In my experience once I start reading it then I can get really into it and get through many pages, but I am not a fast reader tho so I will take my time with it - which is why I'm taking these breaks when I feel like I have other things to work on, mostly because I want to avoid eye strain.
And yeah I will let you know if I spot any typos for sure, it becomes easy to miss tho when you get really into the book and start enjoying it 😄

Tio makes an apple pie in the motorhome (super easy) - videos.trom.tf/w/bPTrNPzGkXgF2…
You only need 5 eggs, 4 apples, a bit of sugar, flour and oil. And you can make a super tasty apple pie. You can use any other fruit so go wild with it! 😃
This is to showcase how with very little ingredients and in such a small space, you can still bake some great sweets 😃

Your social data stays on your device. You own it, it's private, you decide what happens with it. This unlocks powerful local tools that shared servers can't offer. Since ActivityPub does not lock you into one format, we take full advantage. Same account, but the interface can change in a tap. Text feed, photo grid, video player. One identity, your rules. That's our goal, and we're getting closer every day.

It is a "self-hosted" shard of Fediverse, isn't it? Like in, you are discoverable/contactable etc but it's not "I upload this data to a Masto instance", it's more like a "I keep my data on my device and the posts I create are saved on my device, Masto instance gets copies when my device goes online". Kinda like cloud storage where sync uploads data you have on your PC to elsewhere but this local data remains the "single source of truth".

Sotres, Asturias: videos.trom.tf/w/7wo6HXbkj86AT…
Sotres is the highest village in the Picos de Europa National Park. A bit tricky to get here on the narrow winding road, but well worth the trip! Sotres is so beautiful that in 2024 it got an award from the princess of Asturias 😄 It's also famous for its blue cheese and is the starting point of some spectacular hiking trails in Picos de Europa.

The image is made by @davidrevoy, an illustrator with whom we've worked on several projects for years. All of his work is under Free Licence and can be found on his website: peppercarrot.com/en/artworks/f…

in reply to Blue Luma • • •@blueluma It's amazing how the big industry has brainwashed the audience. I now collect this type of accusation no longer monthly, but weekly. And as a digital painter with more than 25 years' experience, I understand why. In fact, my work (and other, billion) has been used to train those AI models, so AI paint like us. But please stop accusing work that you are not 100% sure about. When real humans are behind it and have spent full days creating that imagery, it hurts a lot.

in reply to David Revoy • • •@meduz So, about the 'Ironing' bit, we wanted to show an indie filmmaker filming a scene like in the Superman movies. We had a good laugh at how Sepia designed a filming studio set with household items to simulate flying on a green screen. That's because this illustration was aimed at people who make indi-budget videos, for the internet.

Emelia/Emi
in reply to David Revoy • • •@davidrevoy Interesting to see a bit of the process, and I think one of the issues might be the compression-induced "vaseline filter" on the image in the original post? Your post has a much less compressed version that's much sharper and thus more obviously not AI (My initial verdict was "probably human, low confidence" due to the compression making it hard to confidently determine "human" until your post)
(But I can see where the original accusation was coming from, even if I would never have made it myself: with the heavy compression in the original post it's much harder to determine if possible "tells" are actually tells, or just Compression...)

in reply to David Revoy • • •@davidrevoy @blueluma For me, what stands out most is the actual content: models seem to have a tendency to cram in as much superfluous detail as space allows whereas artists tend to carefully choose which details help to tell a story.
Also: sheer joy. Generated images tend to lack joy.

in reply to hazlin -73/?? • • •@hazlin True, I think at the time I made this illustration I had this process : peertube.touhoppai.moe/w/6Getv…
Nowadays for the MiniFantasyTheater comic strip, I think I spent more time on the drawing, then less time on the 'under' coloring that feeds the canvas, and I try to smooth less after I merge all the stack of layer (because of the "smoothing = AI" syndrome)

"That result is so good you must have cheated."
You know those old paintings that almost look like a photograph? That is amazing. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Han…

in reply to David Revoy • • •@davidrevoy @blueluma For what it's worth, I don't think it looks AI. (To me, it looks "the Framasoft guy", but I've seen a lot of your work. :) ).
There are no details that don't make any sense, the colour palette is fuller than most AI images, and it doesn't have that eerie "off-ness" that I can't properly put words to because I'm not an actual visual artist myself.
David Revoy
in reply to datarama • • •Aydan
in reply to David Revoy • • •@davidrevoy Also, I think another (more flattering) reason is your expressive use of shadows and highlights, the majority of artists seem to work with either a more muted or more cartoony colour palette. And image generating AIs, for various reasons, tend to have very bright highlights and dark shadows.
I (and many, many other people) love your style though! Also your commitment to open-ness
