The backups are fast and thanks to Vorta, their desktop tool, I can easily connect to these repos and mount them or extract any files I want, or delete some. As easy as that. I do not like the terminal, I feel blind when using it, but for Borg I will still have to use it to restore backups for example. And I can put up with that. Tested, seems easy.
So I use borgbase with 2TB of storage for all of the servers + my local system files, like config files and such, since Borg works great with tons of files that are not that big sized. From servers to Borg, from my computer to Borg. All seem to work really well thus far.
The files.
The rest of the files are around 6TB. That is TROM II documentary, VN stuff, and so forth. It seems that Mega is great for very large files. Probably Mega got stuck when I told it to backup tons of small files because now it seems to work well. So I backup the rest to Mega.
2TB of BorgBase + 8TB of Mega = 350 Euros a year. 50 Euros more than when I first planned for this and got donations for this purpose. It is fine. I'll add 50 more Euros for that. I am still testing this for a week or so before buying these for a full year. I want the backups to be seamless and "just work". Right now they seem so, but let's see. 1 week should settle this dispute :).
Backups are damn important so you should do them properly, regularly, and safely. The options I chose are encrypted end to end. And easy to setup it seems.
I want to go back to TROM II after this. Tomorrow I shall start. #tromlive
Good to know that you're getting a handle of the backup situation. I like this idea, use a combination of 2 services that are good at different things, that should account for all I guess..... @yunohost
!Friendica Support So I messaged alban@social.trom.tf, a user on my instance, via Friendica. We both are on the same instance, both on Friendica. And guess what, the message went to a random user pod.geraspora.de/u/wurstaufbro… that's on Diaspora... The user was of course very confused. What in the world has happened and how can we figure it out? :D
@Tio @Michael Vogel I also had this problem when I tried to send a private message to a user of my instance, a user who was not my connection. Instead, the message was sent to the last user I had had a private conversation with! Probably, the problem lies in the function that aggregates private messages...
I tried to send a direct message to @Michael Vogel , but it was sent to a different user.
That user was not a random user, but the last user that was reported to me in the notification panel as he was the last user who had mentioned me in chronological order
I have friended the user before contacting him. In any case, it is a big issue if the message is sent to other users. Should not allow you to send it in the first place. But is ok, we should have patience and hopefully you guys can figure this out. I wish I had the know-how to help you.

Backups overwhelm me ahgain...making local backups is super easy for millions of files and some 7-8TB of data. But doing them online is not easy at all. Megasync is super easy to setup and is encrypted and all that. But fails so often because of so many files... Bor is kinda a pain in the ass to use and I feel like I can't have proper control over it. Trying to backup the trom.tf server with it now let's see how it goes but is not as simple to backup and restore with Borg.
Well @Rokosun wants to move from mastodon to friendica but before he did that, he followed his friendica account from his mastodon, and then he moved to friendica and imported all contacts from mastodon to friendica....and as you can tell, it also included his own friendica account. haha. And he made me test if I can follow my own account from my account...and I reached that page you see above.

I followed my friendica account (this one) from my mastodon account (@futureisfoss@fosstodon.org). After some time I imported my mastodon contacts to my friendica account like this:
Go to settings, and then click on "Social networks". Under "General Social Media Settings", there is a field for "Your legacy ActivityPub/GNU Social account". I just gave my mastodon account on the field to import my contacts from mastodon.
As you can see, this would cause me to follow myself on friendica, and the import process did in fact showed me that I successfully followed myself using the same account. But I can't see myself as a follower on the contact tab of friendica, so I can't unfollow myself. Later I logged in to the tusky client using my friendica account, and tusky showed me on the notification tab that I did followed myself.
I'm wondering if this causes any other issues we're not aware of yet. Not sure if these problems are related, but I noticed that I can't go to my profile on tusky, it could be an issue of the app itself not properly supporting friendica, so I don't know.
So Vimeo deletes a video of me showing how facebook is still full of porn videos when you search in their main search engine. So it is me scrolling through the search results to showcase that for one of our TROM books. Then Vimeo proceeds by deleting my channel for that.
They said:
Ok masters, so you "do not permit content that depicts explicit nudity or sexual acts.". That video should still not be removed, let alone my entire channel.
And of course is full of nudity videos, or sexually explicit ones...
Not that nudity or sex are bad, they are great actually. People should celebrate that and ban money or any trades from such platforms, but Vimeo screws me for uploading the videos that their website is full of. And so many are years old.

I like how videos.trom.tf is actually the exact opposite of that - exploitative porn is removed, but educational nudity is allowed. Porn and movies are mainly removed because they're considered as an exploitation of the limited server space. @tio

And yeah, you should've started using archive.org long before. On a slightly positive note, its great that we now have our own peertube instance, so we're not completely lost. You should backup all videos using youtube-dl before anything happens. Changing the URLs from all the books is the hard thing. I hope we could somehow automate most of the work, but I don't know if its possible....

All of them are tons more expensive than doing local backups but doing local backups means you are stuck in the same place, physically, since you need the drives and the internet connection. And I may not have those in the near future (1-2 years who knows). I may even end up with buying a Borg backup for 150$ a year only for the servers and try to use a cheaper Mega for other files...idk...let's see...
Why does a good cloud backup cost this much ? Mega is kinda cheap but it lacks the stability and robustness of handling large amounts of files. I know tools like rsync can be used to transfer & backup files, but you still need a remote server with enough storage for it to work.......

It is getting more and more difficult, if not impossible, to have a desktop environment that is consistent. If Operating Systems let you choose a theme, you expect that theme to be applied system-wide. In Linux this is/used to be the case.
Trying to find a fix for the flatpaks nonsense of "not respecting the system's theme" thing, is difficult. It is a mess it seems. Unless there is a trick somewhere that can do it easily. I managed to make it so that GTK flatpak apps respect the theme, unless they use the awful libadwaita. But the rest I cannot. And even for the gtk ones is quite a hack... Is it worth it? We have flatpaks enabled by default in tromjaro so I'd like to see some consistency there, but then idk if it is worth to find a hacky solution to then be rendered invalid by whatever these people push into these "cool" packaging and design systems.
I am baffled as to why respecting the system's theme is not a must for any of these developers. How in the world you want me to function when I may have 10 apps that have 10 different styles, from buttons and the number of them, to the position of them, to dark/light mode, color schemes, fonts....are these people who come up with such systems even use computers much?

Yeah...we managed to make TROMjaro match the GTK theme for QT apps and works very well. So most apps respect the theme. But with libadwaita and flatpaks, this is becoming more and more hacky and not long term solution.
hm...I saw manjaro dropping the qt5 settings from their repo, so i added to our repo. but if QT apps will also stop working with GTK theming then the battle seems lost. Flatpaks, libadwaita, qt6 .... what else can we try to fix? Seems like a lost battle unfortunately...
I haven't tested manjaro's xfce in months now but I doubt they have a unified theme. Except Mint I didn't see a unified theme in any distro I tested so far. They seem not to care. They present their "cool" desktop with like 5 apps that are part of the system and all looks great. Except most apps are not gonna respect their system's theme...
I am testing our Jitsi Meet more and more these days. call.trom.tf/ :) - I have removed the YouTube integration today, since YouTube is trade-based. I have to try and do a long call with a bunch of people from around the world :P. To see how it handles it. This week I was and still am a bit distracted with some other things, but starting next week I want to beat myself into submission to work on TROM II like a maniac and finish it in a few months time...so that I can then focus on other things like new books, a new kind of life perhaps, new projects and so forth....rebooting tromcast and more.
Mega is again a big failure. Even after reducing the files from millions to hundreds of thousands, and from 8TB to some 4TB, it still fails...freezes daily...idk what to do honestly...looking at other alternatives...trying to connect an object storage to files.trom.tf and do it via my account there... #tromlive

I am using Mega again. Testing for a month or so. 8TB for now. Have done some judo with my files so I have reduced the ones I backup at Mega by several millions. So far works ok. So let's see. #tromlive
Did some good work for TROM II these past 2 days. Next days I'll be a bit busy with some other things but will continue. I plan to release a new TROMjaro ISO in a week or two and move it to the next kernel LTS 5.15. Should not be an issue for any current users. Easy to upgrade. We may add a fix for the flatpaks to force them respect the system's theme, plus a few new changes. Very minor. Tha'ts how I like TROMjaro, to not add many changes with every ISO release. Keep it simple, functional, and stable. #tromlive

Books, videos, lots of online services, documentaries, and more. My input helped/helps/will help thousands upon thousands of other humans. I do not trick people, scam them, lie to them. I am honest and do trade-free things.
I am also curious about the world and society, and I want to know how it works, what problems we as a species face, how we can fix them. So I try to keep myself educated in a scientific manner.

This society wants me to better go and trade whatever, just to make some money. Lie, deceive, restrict access to the stuff I am creating, keep myself busy with buying and so forth. That's the kind of human that has value in our society.
