Friendica fact of the day: you can compose huge posts on Friendica, add inline media (photos/videos), and even stylize the text (bold, italic, underline, add links to words or sentences). So you can use it as a Twitter or Facebook alternative. No limitations.

Also, another reminder that mastodon is just ONE platform. There are lots of others. Personally I (again) recommend Friendica. This is what it can do and how it looks like trom.tf/social/ and here is our instance that's public social.trom.tf

Fix top bar window buttons in the Unity layout forum.tromjaro.com/t/fix-top-b…
Recently there was a push to a package that made our default TROMjaro Unity layout a bit ugly :D - and we have a temporary fix for it.
Fix top bar window buttons in the Unity layout
For the past week the developer of the xfce4-windowck-plugin-xfwm4-theme-support package pushed an update that made the top window buttons for TROMjaro’s Unity layout to not work with your selected theme.TROMjaro Forum

Friendica fact of the day: you can easily manage multiple accounts under a single one, and switch between them in seconds.
For example I have my personal account, but also a page for our TROM project. And it is so easy to switch between them.

@Sasha is starting a video series (lots of videos) about her hike last year through the Pyrenees, and all is on our Peertube instance.
So basically this girl is some 1.56m tall and weights some 48kg. Despite that she traveled 840km through a mountain chain, with a backpack that was half her weight, alone, for 2 months. With only 3$ a day. If you want to see some really informative, interesting, and cool adventure, start following her channel.
This is her first video videos.trom.tf/w/bscuS7uYA2PYV… - all about packing for the trip. The next videos are about the adventure itself. I joined her for 3 days :D hehe.
You'll see some really cool landscapes, and a very tough little lady :)). And she is also very funny.
Ok. Follow her via Peertube at videos.trom.tf/c/big_world_sma… or via any federated account big_world_small_sasha@videos.trom.tf
:)
GR11 ULTRAcheap & ULTRAheavy - Gear List
Here's me getting ready to trek the GR11, alone, but not alone, since my backpack is kind of like a medium-sized person... piggyback riding me for 840 kilometers... Let's see how this goes! Thru-hiking ULTRACHEAP - the opposite of ULTRALIGHT!videos.trom.tf

If you want to move from Twitter to the fediverse then Mastodon is the closest in terms of how it works. However Friendica allows you to connect with your Twitter and thus cross post automatically on Twitter too, get all of your Friends' posts in your Friendica timeline, reply to them and all that. So it is a proper integration with Twitter.
Wanna join? Use our instance social.trom.tf
We have custom themes to make it more modern and it works with any Mastodon app.
And that's all.

> Briar is currently very unreliable since both sender and recipient need to be online simultaneously
In order to solve this problem you need propagation nodes in the network, that way you can send your message and then go offline, these propagation nodes will store your message and send it to the recipient when they come online. A new project that does this is github.com/markqvist/sideband
GitHub - markqvist/Sideband: LXMF client for Android, Linux and macOS allowing you to communicate with people or LXMF-compatible systems over Reticulum networks using LoRa, Packet Radio, WiFi, I2P, or anything else Reticulum supports.

Put the blame on people. Put them into jails. Chop their heads. Scare them. Rinse and repeat. Same society. Unless we change the society, nothing changes. New Zuckss, new Musks, new Gates will rise up in this trade based society.
Sure, try to deal with these assholes, but always understand that it is the society that needs to be changed.

Super cheap, well built, old laptops.
Here's a video I made about those Fujitsu laptops that are quite well built and super cheap - videos.trom.tf/w/wfvj1nZLy9mA5…
Speaking of that, don't forget that I have a personal Peertube channel you can follow me at tiotrom@videos.trom.tf - I may post more videos in the future.
Super cheap, well built, old laptops.
This is my favorite laptop. Fujitsu Lifebook E series. For 100 or max 200 Euros you can but a part-metal built laptop, that is made to be serviced. Change the RAM, CD/DVDroom, drive, battery, clean the fan and all that, in seconds.videos.trom.tf

I think eventually I will buy a framework laptop next year when I'll replace my bulky one. I mean the fact that I can replace every part of it, is absolutely amazing frame.work/de/en/marketplace/l… . The only downside for me is the small screen. I am used to 17inch screen.... Helps when designing stuff and video edit, but an external monitor can help me in that regards.
But yah if I am to buy a laptop this one is by far the best in terms of build and the fact that I can change pretty much anything is bliss. This should be the damn norm!

If you are going with a "no dedicated GPU" laptop, I recommend to check out eGPU devices. These things allow basically to extend your laptop with any desktop GPU cards you may find. Yes, it isn't that mobile as having it inside the laptop and requires Thunderbold 3/4 protocol support (I couldn't find if framework laptops support that or not, unfortunately), but might be a good solution for rendering video and for other heavy loads which built-in graphic cards are not that capable of very well.
There are plenty of GPU cards may be found on eBay and here is the list of eGPU devices to consider:
Very interesting idea. However if I think practically what I do with my linux system, I almost never use a dedicated GPU for several reasons, but basically whatever I use does not need a dedicated GPU. Even the video editor I use, Kdenlive almost never uses the GPU anyway...so it depends how the software is also setup to do that. Despite this I can edit a massive documentary that has many layers of footage and audio on top of each other.
I do not game either...
So for me, multitasking, video editing, graphic design and all that, a good CPU (and framerowk has plenty of those) and a good GPU (iris xe graphics that they ship with is more than enough for me) seem like a great choice :D
Also to be able to replace parts in the future is fabulous. I think what bothers me the most is the small screen size. :P

I hear ya, just one more option for you to be aware of :winking face:
Obviously, I am not speaking of gaming and other stuff, since I know you do not game. Sometimes dedicated GPU may be a serious advancement in terms of video editing and rendering on the fly (and yea, you can choose whatever card you want, not only that which is soldered, even the AMD one, which has better support for Linux in general). Obviosly it depends on if you're having big plans for more videos after TROM II :grinning face with smiling eyes: Otherwise, it might be enough to have the built-in card :winking face:
The screen sizes though, yeah.. I feel ya, might be a real gamechanger. Unfortunately, have no better recomendation except the external screen.

That's it then! I'll go for it haha :D - Need to tame myself. Tame tio, tame! Caaaalm. haha. Next year! Next year! Finish TROM 2, then buy it. Sell your laptop. Do it. Next year....
But yeah fantastic. I had no idea about egpus. That's super fucking cool. It means I can always connect to such a dedicated gpu in case I need to seriously work on some idk what .... 3D stuff or crazy video editing :D

Oh and I love that I can get it cheaper because for example I do not have to buy any RAM. I have 32GB on my laptop and I can use those. It is fantastic that they let you not buy certain parts. Damn man I got busy with this hahahaha. Dreaming about this laptop. I think because I love the idea to be able to bloody replace parts and easily maintain a laptop. And to have it well built.
Anyway, I have to tame my excitement until after TROM 2 is released and if I have enough money then, I will buy it and sell my old laptop. For now I do not need it. TROM 2 needs to be done first :D
But for now I am a bit in love with the concept of the framwork laptop.

Yup, the framework concept is a very beatiful Idea, this is how the devices should be designed without all that bullcrap about make it even more thin for no reason or in exchange of maintainability.. I wish they had more options to choose from though. Probably, they will come with more later.
Anyway, whatever you prefer, my friend :smiling face with smiling eyes:
All these projects offer way saner devices I ever had throughout my life. And yes, ACER, I speak about you bitch hahaha. I never forget I had to disassemble the entire laptop (even to take off a keyboard and touchpad) to simple replace a fuckin battery wtf?? :grinning squinting face:

Nothing shocking, just updates :) . And from now on I will keep it in full sync with Manjaro's stable releases.
TROMjaro 2022.11.03 (basic system updates)
The usual Manjaro system updates. Plus one more change: we set up to check for updates every week instead of every few hours, and to use 6 parallel downloads: That’s all. The rest should work just fine.TROMjaro Forum

Is there a better client for mobile, or is Friendica best left to browsers? Or should I just use Tusky for both?
