Ok time to go to bed, tomorrow I should release the documentary,
So for the past year or so our Matrix server was not enable to help you recover your lost password. Therefore if you had an account with matrix.trom.tf and lost your password you were fucked. I am happy to say that this is finally fixed. I know, terrible thing, but it is fixed. I am also able now to access the admin backend and keep an eye on the users and delete any bots and such.
So all good!
In other news, we worked today to prepare everything for tomorrow's release. A few minor things to tweak but mostly all good.
It will be available for everyone, of course, and with proper English captions and sources. We are streaming it via our own video platform https://videos.trom.tf (Peertube) so there will be no censorship this time.
Keep in mind, this documentary style is very different from the first documentary. This is more of a "personal" documentary that revolves around 5 people, but it expands far more than just that, presenting an "overview" of our society from an alien perspective. Please keep your expectations low and keep in mind that most of the work was done by one single human being, from recordings to editing and so forth.
Also, we used no stock footage, so everything you see there is real. No fake bullshit.

So I did notice a drop in the battery performance over the past week or so. I used to be able to run it on battery for some 10 hours when watching local media, some 5-6 hours when using it normally over wifi, bluetooth, streaming, even doing some photo editing and such. Even with full brightness on in broad daylight doing stuff over wifi I could use it for some 5 hours.
Now? It's 4 or so hours when using it "normally". Dropped 1-2 hours on average. This is a bit extreme.

For one this laptop is kinda hot most of the time. I have lots of things opened. So the temperature of the CPU/GPU is around 60-70 degrees on average. The laptop can be so hot it is uncomfortable to use it.

Second, I have charged this laptop via a USB-C dock that delivers 60W to the laptop, while normally the charger delivers 65W. I've read that this should not impact the battery life, but idk....
Lastly, these stats about the total capacity of the battery cannot be that exact....it dropped 10% after I rebooted the laptop, but I normally only reboot it once a month or less, so maybe it showed the 93% capacity wrongly for the past month or more.
Anyway, if I would complain about this laptop I'd say:
gets very hot
the battery seems to lose capacity super fast
the chassis of the laptop is "too sharp", more than you imagine, making it uncomfortable to handle; that chassis is also a bit bendy...makes some noises when you handle the laptop
it is kinda heavy overall
you have to solder something inside your laptop to make your trackpad work
repairable on paper, but kinda terrible in practice...not comfortable to open this laptop and replace stuff
But hey, I still like it....is kinda thin, powerful, dual RAM slots, 4TB of SSD, amazing screen, good keyboard, great trackpad after you make it work; great port selection, good webcam, and the build quality is still quite good overall.
But fuck, I hate that the battery is getting so bad suddenly...
I ordered a laptop fan stand, to put my laptop on while I'm on my desk...and I'll try to charge it with a more powerful charger. I know there are "good practices" to preserve the battery like only keep it charged between 20% to 80% and so forth....but what's the point of having a laptop if I have to do it like that? I want to use this thing in a way that is comfortable for me.
Anyway. It is what it is....
This week I will release the documentary so I'll focus on that.
If it's hot like that and you're losing battery capacity quickly, it's failing and needs to be replaced:( I had a similar issue w my son's laptop not too long ago.
Nope....no warranty....bought it from ebay second hand, but not-used. So I can't use any warranty. Even if I had I would not send this laptop back since it is my main machine - I manage some 40 websites and so many things from this machine. Thanks for the input tho, I will probably replace the battery this year if I can find one.
See how awesome this is. LibreOffice in the cloud with collab editing tools (writer, spreadsheets, presentations, diagrams). Plus a Notes app, plus a powerful Photos app that allows you to organize your photos and videos and even edit them.
TROM Files can preview PDFs and multiple 3D file formats. And it has a built-in Music App so you can listen to your music/podcasts.
It's all about those files, and they are all encrypted. We have no clue what you are hosting with us.

If you still worry about the battery, I'd suggest you to keep looking if there would be the sudden drops in real charge percentage, while you're on the battery. Especially, at low charge around 20-10% or sudden laptop shutdowns because of the discharges, even though it was enough charge. This is usually a common indicator for all Li-Ion type batteries when they have to be replaced soon.
Thanks a lot for the detailed info! I did notice a slight decrease in battery time while using the laptop. Now is like 5 or so hours, before maybe it was a bit more. But it is true my laptop is kinda warm all the time, at times very hot. Does not help that now is fucking hot in here.....
I guess I will have to replace the battery in a few years time anyway.

Very welcome, as always! Yeah.. unfortunately, lithium batteries don't like heat at all and tend to degrade faster in the hot environments. From what I understood, working temperatures higher than 35C may affect the capacity directly, slowly decreasing it or it just discharges quicker than usual, even after full charge (absolute limit of the temperature is 60C, though it is totally not recommended). However, I hope, yeah, your battery shouldn't require a service that soon.
Or I would recommend something like this coolermaster.com/catalog/coole… It's around 20 euros on amazon. Using a similar thing myself, since I have heavy workloads for my working laptop sometimes and it heats a lot too.
We moved from OnlyOffice to Collabora (Libreoffice) for our TROM Files. It is nicer, more simple, no BS integrations with 3rd parties like google and the like. Basically I want to create stuff in my loneliness: documentaries, videos, books, etc.. And then have 1-2 people around who can help me a bit with the proofreading, review of the sources, and things like that. Then I'll make these available and open one single door: TROMcast. For anyone to be able to criticize the stuff that I release, since my goal is to present factual information. So that's how I see things now: Me creating stuff and sharing it on tromsite.com. Then do a TROMcast whenever a few people want to challenge any of the things presented in whatever I have released.
I want to have time to focus on my personal life. Go see some nature, some creatures, or just stay and relax and not manage 40 websites. I'd rather write more books than provide "yet another" instance of whatever....
I want to learn more about the world too...
Now that I finished the documentary maybe is time for me to sing off in many ways. Sometimes I have this strong feeling of shutting down my laptop and never open it. And just live. In the moment. Go climb some trees, go for a swim, or just stay and wonder about the universe and read some books about it.
Maybe I'll change my mind about some of these things, but for sure I am overwhelmed ... you try to write books, source them, proofread some that others write, design them, publish them, make podcasts about them; make documentaries, record, edit, make captions or check them, release, deal with the feedback; make a custom linux distro and provide technical support, update it, do releases, fix issues with packages, curate hundreds of apps....Or make a documentary website, find new titles, add them, make sure they have a trailer, make sure people can access them....Or provide some 25 instances via trom.tf....customize them, update the servers, backups, bla bla bla bla....and so on....
Ok I'll stop. But this life is not healthy for me.
@Tio The most hardworking person I know doesn't work for money/profit and he's constantly struggling to stay aflot in this world, just shows you where the priorities are for our society.... And I just wanna make one thing very clear here, your health & wellbeing should always come first above all else, over the years I've seen you many times burn yourself out with work, I'd much rather see you drop some of these projects and be relaxed than see you struggling like this. yeah absolutely. Tio is the most hardworking, genuine, and most underappreciated person I've ever met or have even heard of :) I'd say it's a good idea to drop some of the projects that put too much toll on you, and have some time to relax and enjoy life while you have it :)
It is extremely unlikely that anyone has the time to finish any subtitles for the documentary in a week or so, before we release it. But I think it is totally fine to release the documentary together with proper english captions plus full transcriptions, so that after the release anyone can jump in to create subtitles.
We will make sure to have everything well organized in order for anyone to get involved collaboratively. Unfortunately we cannot find a proper collaborative tool for subtitling that is trade-free, so we will probably use amara.org.
We can say with certainty that the documentary will be fully released the next week. But we do not know the exact day.
We do not care if you are a good human being, all we care is if you can trade and what you can trade. Jesus, Superman, and the like, would have to have side-jobs or rely on donations if they were to survive in our trade-based society.
If you refuse to be part of the trade society, say you refuse to trade your work and you give it away for free, because you want to be a good human, you are fucked. Unless you get support from other human beings, voluntarily, you could basically die. End up in the streets, be unable to feed yourself, and survive overall.

And if you don't make enough money then you're fucked, there are no good support systems for people, no safety nets. So people are forced to work a paid job under the threat of poverty, they don't have a choice. How on earth can people consider these inhumane things as normal is beyond me, and yeah volunteers like yourself are struggling because of it.
The listing of sources for the TROM II documentary is done! They are categorized into Footage, Music and Sources. And there are a lot of them. Now the only thing left is to finish the transcriptions entirely. @Sasha, @Tio and @Rokosun are working on that. The first and third part are already done. And the rest will be done in just a few days time.
@Georgi @Alexio and @Roma are already working on the translations.
We will release the documentary before the end of this month regardless if we have any subtitles ready or not.

Like many many sources are from The Origin of Most Problems and The Money Game and Beyond books. So that makes it easier to source.
This weekend, maybe even tomorrow, I can finish with the sources. And by the way, they all have timestamps. So in Peertube you'll be able to jump to sources from the video description.

We've tried LibreTranslate with self-hosted translation models, but it is very slow and lacks a lot of languages....for now we will stick to this Google Translate interface. This tool should be useful for those who will start to make subtitles for the TROM II documentary.

You know how much I bitch about this trade based society and say that almost everything revolves around it...The fact that Sasha could easily get papers if I were to have a well paid job, tells you so clearly that ALL it matters in this world is for you to be a player in the trade game. That's all they care. Not love, not kindness, not smartness, not this, not that. NO. All it matters is if you can trade, be part of the trade system.
Our suffering is in fact a direct proof that trade is the origin of most problems. Go argue with me about that now! :P Because it is so in everyone's faces, that only the normal ones who adapted to the smell of shit, do not realize that they pooped themselves. And everyone else did as well.
Watta hell man. This is one fuckin prison on Earth. Decent humans must be free to go around and live wherever they want with whom they want. I was actually shocked when you said that even dancing in the marriage ritual isn't enough to get out of this paper hell. haha that's nothing. Try to open a business by trading with another country, for example with a country outside the European Union. It's just a nightmare. many 'specialists' can't cope with the requirements, certificates, etc., hiring lawyers and special additional companies for the wholesaler to buy something abroad. Selective border checks can bury you forever. This is how a large number of companies operate - until the first inspection.😐
The transcription for the first part of the documentary is done. Thanks to @Sasha who worked so hard for these past days. She also finished the 3rd part but still needs a final check. @Tio made the transcription for the 2nd part, and @Rokosun is working on the last part.
Tomorrow the 2nd and 3rd part should be done.
We are already sending them to the translators, but we'd like to do so privately so that we do not ruin the documentary release for the rest, if we were to make them public. We plan to release the documentary later on this month, to give some time for the translators to translate.
Since this is a massive documentary it may not be enough time to translate it into other langues before the release, but it will for sure be translated in several languages in the following weeks/months.
