The murder of 15 people at Bondi Beach was a vile antisemitic attack and is rightfully being condemned.

Meanwhile, Israel was murdering roughly 250 Palestinians a day during the height of its ongoing genocide. That’s 16 Bondi Beaches every day. Where is the international outrage and condemnation?
oxfam.org/en/press-releases/da…
Every life is precious, yes. But it seems some lives are far more precious than others for people in the West.
The blame for the horrific and antisemitic terrorist attack at Bondi Beach lies solely with the perpetrators. However, no one can deny that Israel and Zionists are making Jewish people everywhere less safe by conflating support of Israel and the settler-colonial and genocidal ideology of Zionism with being Jewish, and going so far as to call those who oppose Israel’s genocide and Zionism – many of them Jews – “antisemitic.”
Stopping Israel and its genocide of the Palestinian people is not just the morally correct thing to do but it is the best thing the world could do to protect Jews everywhere from those who would perpetuate the great antisemitic conflation of being Jewish with support for settler colonialism, ethnic cleansing, apartheid and genocide. That is, of course, if our so-called world leaders, who are quick to arm and support Israel’s genocide, actually care about the welfare of Jewish people instead of sharing in the spoils of genocide.

I use less than 5L of water to shower in our motorhome and I take a very decent shower. It is all about knowing how to use that water. Likely a shower at home would use over 10 times that. Here is the water consumption in EU on average:

EDIT: IT IS NOT
Hi.
The image is made by @davidrevoy, an illustrator with whom we've worked on several projects for years. All of his work is under Free Licence and can be found on his website: peppercarrot.com/en/artworks/f…

@blueluma It's amazing how the big industry has brainwashed the audience. I now collect this type of accusation no longer monthly, but weekly. And as a digital painter with more than 25 years' experience, I understand why. In fact, my work (and other, billion) has been used to train those AI models, so AI paint like us. But please stop accusing work that you are not 100% sure about. When real humans are behind it and have spent full days creating that imagery, it hurts a lot.

@davidrevoy I totally agree. Sorry for the baseless accusation.
I hate AI generated images that I see a lot, too much and I would like to stop this trend so that real human - like you - can draw some mind blowing paintings 💖
@meduz You can find more illustrations I've done with Sepia, the little mascot of Peertube here: peppercarrot.com/en/artworks/f…
I designed the mascot back in the start of my Mastodon account, here on the Fediverse, with poll and feedback from my followers. ☺️

@meduz So, about the 'Ironing' bit, we wanted to show an indie filmmaker filming a scene like in the Superman movies. We had a good laugh at how Sepia designed a filming studio set with household items to simulate flying on a green screen. That's because this illustration was aimed at people who make indi-budget videos, for the internet.
I wonder how many of these are actual people and how many are bots put out there just to sabotage artists..
@davidrevoy Interesting to see a bit of the process, and I think one of the issues might be the compression-induced "vaseline filter" on the image in the original post? Your post has a much less compressed version that's much sharper and thus more obviously not AI (My initial verdict was "probably human, low confidence" due to the compression making it hard to confidently determine "human" until your post)
(But I can see where the original accusation was coming from, even if I would never have made it myself: with the heavy compression in the original post it's much harder to determine if possible "tells" are actually tells, or just Compression...)
@davidrevoy @blueluma For me, what stands out most is the actual content: models seem to have a tendency to cram in as much superfluous detail as space allows whereas artists tend to carefully choose which details help to tell a story.
Also: sheer joy. Generated images tend to lack joy.
@hazlin True, I think at the time I made this illustration I had this process : peertube.touhoppai.moe/w/6Getv…
Nowadays for the MiniFantasyTheater comic strip, I think I spent more time on the drawing, then less time on the 'under' coloring that feeds the canvas, and I try to smooth less after I merge all the stack of layer (because of the "smoothing = AI" syndrome)
Which is weird because Framasoft does it when it's an illustration in the middle of an article, that's actually how I discovered you and all the beautiful art you make.
Try to see it as a compliment instead. People think it might be AI because it looks better than what most are capable of.
"That result is so good you must have cheated."
You know those old paintings that almost look like a photograph? That is amazing. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Han…
@davidrevoy @blueluma For what it's worth, I don't think it looks AI. (To me, it looks "the Framasoft guy", but I've seen a lot of your work. :) ).
There are no details that don't make any sense, the colour palette is fuller than most AI images, and it doesn't have that eerie "off-ness" that I can't properly put words to because I'm not an actual visual artist myself.
@davidrevoy Also, I think another (more flattering) reason is your expressive use of shadows and highlights, the majority of artists seem to work with either a more muted or more cartoony colour palette. And image generating AIs, for various reasons, tend to have very bright highlights and dark shadows.
I (and many, many other people) love your style though! Also your commitment to open-ness
Hello @peertube , I'd like to ask a question.

Many people make clickbaity videos but this is for sure not. Our fridge, a Thetford 3 way fridge, would not work on gas unless you shoved a rubbery thing between the fridge door and the gas nob. That meant gas was always flowing in the back of the fridge no matter what.
But we fixed it for good by replacing the sensor for the gas. Now everything is working well and we are happy we did not end up killed by the fridge, :)

This was the most expensive motorhome parking area we had paid for yet. It cost 8 euros per night and included water + clean toilets. We loved it because there was nobody around and it was in a beautiful mountainous area with some fantastic trails and viewpoints of Picos de Europa. There was even a trail called "the mythological route" with witches and goblins in the middle of the forest 😁

La Picota - we paid 8 Euros a night to park here. And we stayed for 3 nights. Trust us, we are very cheap people, so this must have been a fantastic place if we were keen to pay for it. Close to the parking was a "mythological" forest and at the end of it the most amazing view of Picos de Europa. Down the other way there were a bunch of beautiful waterfalls.Indeed one of the best places we parked at.

Yah, how can I not want to give up the internet game?! It is getting shittier and shittier.
The incentive is the issue, not the technology. When you have millions of humans who are poor, but also taught that making money and consuming is important, then they do their best to make money.
No regulation or law will work.
The solution? Maybe get people out of poverty, give everyone their basic needs at least so we dont have hungry hyenas everywhere trying to hunt everyone. This is a discussion that is lacking among those who complain about the state of the internet...

Hey Sasha, I just wanted to let you know that I got back your book and started reading it again from where I left off last time.... I finished part 1, it was amazing and I thoroughly enjoyed reading it! At that point I got so into it that I wanted to continue reading, but I decided to take a pause to let myself work on something with @Tio - I'm making some progress on my work but too slow for my liking lol 😅 Anyway, I hope to get back to your book and start reading the next part soon 🙃
I don't feel pressured to read it, no worries 😄 In my experience once I start reading it then I can get really into it and get through many pages, but I am not a fast reader tho so I will take my time with it - which is why I'm taking these breaks when I feel like I have other things to work on, mostly because I want to avoid eye strain.
And yeah I will let you know if I spot any typos for sure, it becomes easy to miss tho when you get really into the book and start enjoying it 😄

maybe this documentary is amazing like you say, maybe I would like after watching it. But if I judge the usefulness of it, watching it for 6 hours, I think, nah...
Did you learn much new?
But I guess it is just love for documentaries alone.
I have seen a LOT of documentaries, and definitely many about the history of our species. But even so this one had new stuff in it I never heard of before. As someone who is very familiar with this subject, this documentary thought me new things that blew my mind. For sure worth it.
Even the way it is made is really pleasant to watch.
Ok, I had to watch after encouragement. Ended up watching half of documentary at double (sometimes triple) the speed. Expectation matched reality: documentary is slow & holds little information.
I used to watch science documentaries when I was a teenager decades ago, when everything was fresh new and my english was poor (but still topics were complex like physics). So it was very engaging for a duration of a few months back then, but now, I see most science documentaries as slow with little content & use.
Better example of useful video is this I recently discovered: youtube.com/watch?v=R7FAAfK78_… about climate change science explained in 25 minutes, about important topic for everyone to know. His few videos are fantastic overall.

I think maybe you got too used with short content?
The documentary reveals new information that is quite recent about the history of homo sapiens and it is very well made. Of course if you already know this info maybe you won't find it that interesting, but as someone who watches tons of documentaries, this one is particularly well made.
To watch it on double or triple the speed is, to me, the best way to ruin any such documentary. Information is not only about the content, but the delivery too: music, phase, scenery, storytelling, etc..
we could look through different angles, for example, I can argue that short content is better. Long content is slow most often and likely with little new info (per minute 🙂). And short content, one can choose to watch more densily packed and least known information. Result is learning more in shorter period of time. I find each of us know very little and there is endless things to learn we don't know about. So why watch 5 hour documentary, over 10 minutes of densily packed material about all sorts of things we should know about, but we don't. For example, most people don't know about open source world, on the other hand, there seems to be no introduction videos about it either 🤔 With small exceptions like videos.elenarossini.com/w/64Vu…

I agree if you want just facts go read Wikipedia. I also like condensed info so I get to know quicker. However such documentaries are far more than about facts. Are about putting your head and brain through a journey of facts via visual, music, etc.. Like watching a movie, you don't just want to know if X and Y ended up together or who the criminal was.
Therefore documentaries are more than facts, are a way to learn about the world through the experience of visuals and sound. May be a great way to make you also remember those facts.
Also, some things cannot be understood by a few words, you need to "convince" or educate people.
I made 2 documentaries myself. Last one is 5 hours long. Want to know the gist of it? Trade is the origin of most problems. That's all. Short and to the point.
But what do you really understand by that? The reason I explained the same thing in 5 hours and carefully selected footage and music to add with the interviews, is to make people understand that short sentence. It is complex and you need more examples to see what trade is and how it affects all of us.
Same with the above documentary. Sure they can tell us in 5 minutes all of the facts but I would miss on how they showcased how ancient people made their tools, where they lived, even the scientists studying them. You miss a lot.
here is another example of what seems to be very accessible & densily packed introduction of important information youtube.com/watch?v=UWh1MIMQd1… but close to nobody choose to watch it 🤷🏻 on the other hand.
Based on your answers, my initial prediction seems to be correct: "if I judge the usefulness of it [...] I guess it is just love for documentaries alone."
In other words, it is about happiness hormones or whatever it is called. And we could say, its the same for other alternative activities, like watching densely packed videos instead. So basically neither is better, and it is subjective choice of what works best for us individually.
I already watched your second documentary. Usually I would almost never watch such long things, but as I was impressed by all your work, I choose to watch it and it was very worth it. It is different from Human documentary, because it contained way more fresh ideas. I still don't agree (maybe not YET), but I am very grateful these original or extreme perspectives exist to be curious about.

Is not just the love of documentaries, whatever that means. I explicitly explained how information gets understood and retained better or worse depending on how it is transmitted. Watching that documentary may make you not only remember the facts, but understand this immense story of humans, and also how scientists do their work, what motivates them, etc..

Your social data stays on your device. You own it, it's private, you decide what happens with it. This unlocks powerful local tools that shared servers can't offer. Since ActivityPub does not lock you into one format, we take full advantage. Same account, but the interface can change in a tap. Text feed, photo grid, video player. One identity, your rules. That's our goal, and we're getting closer every day.
How does the relay work, is it a shared relay, does anyone needs to have one relay?
What about the app, how does it work?
The relay provides a stable identity and proxies requests to your phone. When your phone is online, it serves everything directly. When offline, the relay caches your public posts and queues incoming activities (follows, mentions, replies) until you're back. You control how long posts stay cached. You can use the shared relay at holos.social or self-host your own with Docker.
The app is a React Native app with a full ActivityPub server running locally on your phone. Your data stays on the device. You connect, you're on the Fediverse. You disconnect, your cached posts stay visible for as long as you decide. Nothing is lost, and you're in control.
Thanks for asking now rather than later. React Native has native VoiceOver support and we've been mindful of accessibility from the start. We're focused on Android first, iOS will come later. When the iOS beta comes out, your feedback will be very welcome.
@HolosSocial
ping as to hopefully get an answer to this rather important question.
Edit:
In Screenshots an "Export"-option can be seen (nextcloud and others, as I understand it).
@fasnix
The challenge is that federated posts are linked to your old identity (@you@old-relay.com). Other instances won't automatically recognize them under a new relay.
But since all your data stays on your phone, we could offer a migration feature: update all your posts with your new identity and re-sign them with your new key. They would then be rediscovered by other instances when you're online, as if published from your new relay.
This is doable and we'll work on adding it.
@futureisfoss
I didn't really think about the fact that my old identity will be tied to the posts, yeah I can see how that can cause issues with federation... On mastodon I often use the "in:library" search operator to search for posts I've interacted with before, it could be a post I liked or replied to in the past and this search operator helps me find it again. So in some ways I think it'd still be useful to have my old data even without an identity change, as long as it's searchable.
It is a "self-hosted" shard of Fediverse, isn't it? Like in, you are discoverable/contactable etc but it's not "I upload this data to a Masto instance", it's more like a "I keep my data on my device and the posts I create are saved on my device, Masto instance gets copies when my device goes online". Kinda like cloud storage where sync uploads data you have on your PC to elsewhere but this local data remains the "single source of truth".
